An unfortunate reminder: elections are the only functioning check on Union executive power in in India. Not courts. True for ADM Jabalpur/1977 elections as it is for Maharashtra now. The only recourse for the Marathi voter will be the next elections. Not a court.

The most incredible example of this is a (small) section of far right Hindutva ideologues using "pork" as a taunt, copying white nationalists in the West weaponising kosher/halal rules. Except, irl almost all of them would be just as averse to pork as any Muslim.
