GPs delivered 1.36m appointments each working day in July 2023, up from 1.24 million in July 2022. Over two thirds were face to face. More than 43% were same day appointments. Data here:

Isnt that general practice overall? 45.9% of all appointments in July 2023 were carried out by a GP and 21.0% were carried out by nurses.
@ShaunLintern
Fails to point out that many practices like ours only do same day. If no appts that day you have to try again the following day. So can take a week or more to get a "same day appt" & that'll often be with a nurse practioner rather than a GP.
@ShaunLintern
My GP practise in Ramsbury is excellent - my daughter was treated to a nurse for a minor ailment last week with a same day appointment - she was not better in 3 days and so got a same day appointment with a senior GP
Some practise are lucky and remain well staffed
@ShaunLintern
But what was the total number trying to get an appointment. Good to see improvement but you need total demand ratio vs supply as there could be an equal number who did not get an appointment.
@ShaunLintern
I didn’t have an appointment but my GP just randomly phoned me at 6pm yesterday, and spent 10 mins going through all my medications with me. My GP has been fantastic ever since he joined the practice. I thanked him profusely!

The real issue is surely the pathway to a GP encounter... at my surgery
1️⃣Call receptionist >
2️⃣book callback from nurse practitioner >
3️⃣telephone consultation with nurse practitioner >
4️⃣ agreed that need to see GP >
5️⃣ book GP appointment >
6️⃣ GP consultation

I do solitude if my maths is wrong but … So In July there were 29m appts at gps ? There’s supposedly 65m people in the uk . Let’s assume 1,5 visits per person , so a 20m people are sick each month ?? Nearly A 3rd of the population ??
