This cheeky fecker came into the calving shed last night and took a teat clean off a calved cow 😫 I had been out an hour earlier and he had been there then aswell. Has anyone any ideas how to keep him out or any experience of something similar? No doubt he'll be back tonight 😕

Never thought I'd see the day our herd of dairy cows was grazing in a field like this! Got slurry in March & no chemical fertiliser. Cover of 2500, growing nearly 100/ day last 2 weeks whereas grass fields averaging under 50. Will be interesting to see effect on production 🐄🌾

Being finished by 5pm is becoming a more regular occurrence here over the last couple of years. Having a simple, efficient system with good infrastructure is the key to that. Never been more important to have a good work/life balance #workhardplayhard

Nice to be finished milking early of a Sunday evening. We hear alot of talk about financial and environmental sustainability but social sustainability is just as important, especially for generational renewal. No matter what you do, important to have a good work life balance😊

Our last cow calved today and had a lovely red Angus heifer. My father bought this cow from a great farmer and close family friend who sadly passed away today. Quite poignant really😢

Brilliant job by Katie and Alex from Comeragh Veterinary today. 50 calves sedated, anaesthetised and debudded in under an hour and a half. Stress free dehorning for the farmer and the calves, couldn't recommend this method highly enough 👌 💯

Replacing our old calf shed with a new upgraded shed this summer. Cow numbers are not increasing (if anything will reduce next year) Being proactive so we can keep calves a bit longer to ensure they're strong for selling locally to beef farmers. Many dairy farmers doing similar.

The calves are happy to have a fresh nest on a day like today 😶‍🌫️ A job you wouldn't mind doing on a Sunday now- only a 15 minute job with one person, used to be a 30 minute job with 2 people 🕐

A couple of important areas finished off in the calf shed today. A wash down area for cleaning calf feeding equipment with a storage cabinet for calf house essentials such as tags & teats and a fridge for colostrum & samples. Also a vermin proof room for milk powder & meal.

Twin 1 born at 9pm last night, Twin 2 born at 7am this morning. Scanned in calf to twins, checked for 2nd one & nothing🤷‍♂️ 1st calf was big (red calf is a normal single for context) Has anyone ever seens twins to calf 10+ hours apart & both survive? #miracle #twinning

Teagasc have done a great job with the farm safety videos released covering all high risk areas for accidents on farms. I'd encourage anyone working on a farm to watch them. Very proud of my father who starred in the video focusing on older farmers 👏

Gave the dairy a mid season clean to ensure good hygiene and help to protect the milk lorry driver. #Covid19 isn't over yet, we can't afford to become complacent. Irish dairy farmers produce top quality milk and I hope that the consumer appreciates that and supports us🥛🥛🐄🐄

Interesting that the cows choose to lie in the smaller cubicles rather than the bigger ones. The 3 star hotel is fully booked up but plenty of space at the 5 star for the weekend🤔 Wonder is it because they rather the cheaper option?🤷🏻‍♂️😂

Looking back on my phone from last year,this video stood out to me as one which sums up the balance were trying to achieve.Cows grazing grass & clover within field margins left for nature alongside a small pond we dug.Its possible to farm productively while protecting nature 🐄🌳

We had 4th class from Butlerstown NS out for a visit this morning as part of science week. The energy and enthusiasm they brought was a breath of fresh air! They learned all about how milk is produced on a local dairy farm, how we're improving soil health and lots more!🤓☘️🐄🌱🪱

First time ever grazing milking cows in these fields. It's rented land at the furthest away point on the farm (about 2km walk) but we put in a roadway to it last Autumn and on a day like today makes its all worthwhile #jobsatisfaction

I'm particularly disappointed with the 'family farm' definition of 120 cows or less.We milk over 200 here between myself,my Dad & my fiancee & are very much a family farm. The problem is it takes a large farm now to sustain a family.Please come out & support,every person counts.

Last farm walk of 2020 complete👌 Happy with AFC of 700kg. No chemical Nitrogen spread on farm since 31st of July. Growth rate of 11kgs since cows were housed fulltime on 7th of November. Set up nicely for Spring☺️

Before and after...1400 ➡️ 0 in 24 hours. Cows working hard these days to set farm up nicely for the rest of the summer. AFC 742 CPC 190 GR 76 DE 66. In surplus terrority very quickly after 3 inches of rain in 10 days
