When our hands get kocked down on pass pro, we MUST create SEPARATION with our FEET to avoid getting edged. The “Knockdown Drill” trains players to RESET feet & REFIT hands instantaneously, while training optimal postures to deal with any type of pass rush.
Becoming an elite PASS PROTECTOR requires a variety of tools. Here’s a glimpse into my numbering system for pass sets, strikes and counters designed to systematically shut down any pass rush we will encounter on the field

Every NFL OL Coach I work with has the SAME question.... “HOW DO WE STOP THE “LONG ARM” Rush?” There are multiple defenses & counters, but they ALL involve the INSIDE HAND!

Contrary to widespread belief, the BEST running lanes are created through LATERAL distortion, NOT vertical. We can achieve this & DEFINE the hole for our Backs by taking one hand off. 1 is STRONGER than 2!

If you wait until you get to the NFL to learn how to practice, you’ll probably never get there. Most players compensate for lack of quality with increased speed and effort. True masters can execute technique identically, on command, whether at 10% speed or 100%. Can you?
The “Wrench” will shut down & DISCOURAGE the “Rip” pass rush. If you like this technique, subscribe to my website & see the full video and dozens more. PASS PROTECTION is NOT PASSIVE!

Congrats to
@Merci380
, the AFC’s Defensive Player of the week with 2 sacks & 2 forced fumbles! Love to see all your hard work at
@TeamEXOS
paying off!

According to the
@nfl
, 40% of OL concussions are from blocks in space. These injuries are preventable with
@TipoftheSpearFB
techniques. Drilling in pads WITHOUT a helmet is one of the best ways to develop these skills in the offseason.
#SafetyThroughSuperiorTechnique
Blocking with optimal power and control requires specific anatomical sequencing and postures of the body when striking with the HANDS, NOT the helmet. See ALL PRO Brandon Scherff using Tip of the Spear techniques on a Base Block in the graphic below. SAFER, NOT SOFTER
Every Pass Protector should have a “JUMP SET” in his repertoire of tools. We teach a variety of Jump Sets based on position, scheme, alignment, situation, and opponent. This is how I teach Guards to Jump a 3 tech with no center help.

Mechanics + Speed = a Powerful Strike. Eye Discipline + Precise Placement & Timing of Strikes = TOTAL Domination. This drill develops all of the above.
O Line Clinic this morning with LEGEND Jim McNally

facility in Cincy. Some of the BEST in the game were in the room, including
@KevinMawae
, Howard Mudd, & many more
We’re strongest with both feet behind our hips on BASE Blocks. Teaching players to find their perfect “FIT” position (contact) BEFORE teaching how to get there (footwork) let’s them find & FEEL their “sweet spot” for optimal POWER & CONTROL so they can replicate every time
Superior Hands on the OL aren’t innate, but the result of development in this order- 1. Understand Skill Application 2. Learn Postures & Mechanics 3. Perfect Placement 4. Increase Speed in Drills 5. Master Timing of Delivery. 6. Correct Breakdowns. 7. Add new Tools. 8. REPEAT
Excited to run the OL combine and bowl game prep for
@TeamEXOS
in Phx. Arming the best college players with Tip of the Spear techniques to dominate in pass pro drills at the Senior Bowl. Introducing jump sets today
“LEVERAGE” = maximizing returns on a goal at the lowest possible cost to you... when it comes to contact techniques, most players pay too much. Discover how

Critics will argue my techniques put players at higher risk for orthopedic injuries (hands, wrists, fingers, shoulders etc) since we have taken the head out of contact. Fortunately there are answers that DO NOT include banning football.

I’m doing free O-Line clinics at the
@WeAreAFCA
convention in San Antonio this Sunday and Monday featuring new game-changing techniques you don’t want to miss. Will post exact times and location soon

Circular force, a.k.a. “torque” is a concept I’ve taken from boxing/MMA & applied to football techniques with great success, but it’s only the beginning. Actualizing Superhuman punching power is possible when multiple factors converge at once.
Who will I see at the COOL Clinic this weekend? I’m excited about the lineup of NFL & College coaches presenting AND a few active PLAYERS including
@JoelBitonio
. BEST OL Clinic in Football.
Minimize Time & Space with optimal pass sets, angles & strikes. Take the FIGHT to the defender whenever possible - Kill em at the Front Gate! PASS PRO is NOT passive.

Just one degree of elbow flare can reduce striking power by up to 25%.
The Lev Cuffs instantly teach players HOW to unleash maximum force on contact with their HANDS
Excited to be part of a great lineup of coaches speaking at the
@ALFCA_
convention. Come by our
@TipoftheSpearFB
Blocking clinic today at 1:15pm and join me on the stage for some hands on instruction. Guaranteed to blow your mind!
More players are leading with hands, NOT the helmet in contact situations because of the performance advantages. Officials need to keep up and know what to look for. This technique should be celebrated, not penalized.
Impacts from a running start cause 40% of concussions on the OL. I’ve been going deep on shoulder blocks to chip away at that number at our high school camps. SAFE doesn’t have to be SOFT!
Excited to kick off the 2020 Clinic season Sunday at the AFCA Convention in Nashville. I’ll be running 4 clinics with Rae Crowther over Sunday & Monday, covering new
@TipoftheSpearFB
technique innovations and drills for OL & DL.
3 years ago,
@C_Manhertz
was a basketball player, never played football. Today he is one of the most dominant blocking Tight Ends in the NFL. Clinic reel here using Tip of the Spear techniques vs. Saints & 1st NFL TD.

This is a shame, and a FAILURE by Maricopa Community Colleges. Junior College sports have NEVER been “profitable.” Same is true for high school sports, but we VALUE sports and the opportunity provided within. Economics is a LAME EXCUSE.
Applying “Pressure to Pressure” is never a good idea in combat or contact sports like football. It impedes performance & puts us at physical risk.
When we “TRIANGULATE,” we take the superior position, attacking opponents at their weakest

Honored to present

this Friday at the

Spring Coaches Clinic in Madison, WI. Doesn’t get much better than Cheese Curds, Beer and High School Football!

Nice! Watch this YouTube vid I made in 2012. I pissed a lot of coaches off with this.. They weren’t ready for it then, it was still “hat-hands-low pad Level”. Fortunately its so much easier to convince people now! Thanks for the support!
Does anyone have a video clip of a “shoulder tackle” where “double uppercuts” were used? Seems like a contradiction in terms to me...

Looking forward to presenting Tip of the Spear techniques to the Wisconsin HS Football Coaches at their annual association clinic tomorrow in Madison, WI

This man REVOLUTIONIZED hand play in the NFL and all levels below, particularly in pass protection with the “Tunch Punch.” He was an exceptional player, innovator, teacher, and one of the best human beings I’ve ever met. RIP Tunch. God Bless
My
@WeAreAFCA
conference clinic schedule for tomorrow - Zone & perimeter reach blocks @ 11:30am - Followed by pass pro strikes @ 12:30pm. I’ll be at booth

Rarely do I say great to be around Cleveland Brown but today was that day. 😊Awesome to catch up w/
@ASU_Alumni
@ScottPeters53
at our FB facility. 2021 story here as he climbs NFL coaching ladder. looks like he could still lead the way for 10 yards!

I don’t disagree re hyperextension of low back. It’s dangerous. Fortunately we don’t teach that. We teach hip extension with a posterior pelvic tilt, the MOST POWERFUL POSITION for contact, and..IT TAKES THE HEAD OUT! See graphic below-ALL PRO Brandon Scherff using our technique
We have a few more spots for our OL/DL Spring Camp at EXOS starting April 1. Looking for serious college aspiring players. This is a unique opportunity to train at the premier performance training center in the world coupled with BEST TECHNIQUES in the game.
