How 'gender critical' academics are publicly defended is how many harassers & bullies are defended behind closed doors: complaints of harassment by them are treated as harassments of them; defences of their 'freedom' are expressed as indifference to the harm they cause to others.

Equality can depend on closing not opening debates. I read a comment 'we should be allowed to debate whether homosexuality is a mental illness'. No, opening that debate would give legitimacy to homophobic viewpoints that undermine our existence. I can think of many such examples.

Writing about feminist killjoys again & realising my sense that TERFs occupy the position of/sound like patriarchal fathers is rather true; they use the same tactics, trying to place categories like 'sex' outside of history, to render them immutable, as if THAT's the end of THAT.

TERFs (= mild description for a dire position) might have read (misread!) a Judith Butler book once a while back but they don’t seem to have read much since. Amplify those voices & feminist theory goes back to before we even began the slow task of showing how bodies materialise.

I do feel so much grief for how so-called gender critical feminists have turned feminism into a technique for stigmatising queer and trans people. If your feminist success is dependent on agreement with the forces of social conservatism, your success is the demise of feminism.
