Many people told me I was a $1000 answer on Jeopardy last night. The correct question: "Who is Sandra Boynton?" As you can imagine, I'm now filled with existential self-doubt. WHO AM I????
What a glorious day for a birthday. So Happy Birthday to everyone, whether or not you were actually born on this day. (Cake is mandatory.)

100th birthday of the great, great Charles Schulz. His positive impact on millions upon millions of people is inestimable. (So often I notice a Peanuts influence in my art--e.g. my shouty chicken was around a long time before the source dawned on me.)

Every child's well-being matters profoundly. Taking a child from a parent is vicious and indefensible. Am I "off-brand" here? Superficially, yes. Fundamentally, no.
I'm working on a new board book, and just finished this sketch of pages 3/4. I don't know quite where the story is headed—it hasn't yet let me know. But I like this page.
I spent a ridiculous amount of time today trying to figure out how to draw a plausible guinea pig. At the very least, it suggests a rarely-used hashtag.

Rabbit Rabbit! Tradition has it that if the first thing you say on the first of the month is "Rabbit rabbit!", that will be a lucky month. Come to think of it, why take any chances? RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT...

It's World Teachers' Day! THANK A TEACHER! (I originally did this art in 1977 for my father, an extraordinary teacher and excellent human being.)

I'm working on designing a few 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles for Spring 2021. This one is called "Find the Hidden Cows." I'm previewing it here thinking it might take everyone's mind off things. (Or not. It does involve a whole lot of counting.)

PRO TIP: If you wake up hours before dawn, why not get up and draw an insomniac chicken? It does nothing whatsoever to help with the sleep debt, of course, but you do end up with an oddly captivating piece of art.
It's not just frivolous holidays that I publicize. For example, today (November 14) is National Pickle Day. Which to many people is a really big dill.
#NationalPickleDay
This is definitely not a time for visiting, but it's a great time to give someone a call. They will be delighted to hear your voice. You will love to hear their voices. Seriously: call.
Cleaning out a closet box today, I found this card from 1986. I don't remember the design at all, but I could sure use multiple copies of it these days.
Today is NATIONAL PIZZA DAY! (I am reposting this image in response to unusually heavy demand. By which I mean I received a pushy note from the hippo pictured here.)

Sketch and rough layout. This book doesn't yet exist. I always start with the cover, and then hope the book lets me know where we're headed.

Redrawn art for THE GOING TO BED BOOK, begun at sunrise today and finished just now, at midnight. I'm redoing my earliest board books to restore the line & color. It's wild when time folds back on itself. Goodnight.
Look what was in the heavy box the friendly post office people gave me! Publication date is September 4. Available wherever colorful board books about independent-minded armadillo introverts are sold.

A Halloween full moon visible for all time zones on Earth hasn't happened since 1944. It's also a blue moon. Wild times. May things change dramatically for the better for this beautiful planet and for all of us who call it home.
