From Capital Fax followed up with the governor’s office about what Pritzker was offering CPS and he was told the state had offered SHIELD tests, vaccination clinics and masks for the past several weeks. The city has not yet taken the state up on those offers.

Chicago Public Schools just announced Jones College Prep principal removed pending results of an investigation into student dressed as a German soldier for Halloween. The student displayed his costume doing a march and a salute that was reminiscent of a Nazi soldier.

Lightfoot and Preckwrinkle both support a fully elected school board. They both said they would not close schools. And maybe the election of either one... means the end, or at least a major pause, in the charter school movement in Chicago.

@craigrwall In an interview with CNN just now, @PedroCPSCEO said he is "cautiously optimistic... Both sides want to make a deal. I'm hoping we have news for parents very soon... hopefully within a couple of hours at the very latest." Says the two sides have agreed on school-based metrics.

Maybe it is not school districts that are similar to each other but parents are similar to each other, esp. in communities with a lot of Covid death and sickness. Maybe parents don’t trust these school systems to keep their children safe bc experience has taught them not to.

Important to note here that we're seeing this happen in other districts. There's flux between in-person and remote learning, and fewer families initially report to in-person learning than signed up. NYC, for example, projected 49% and got about 25%.

CTU says the city's COVID-19 stats have hit two of three metrics for complete re-shutdown of schools. Two of the three are based on how fast cases are increasing. The third is a positivity rate of above 10%. Current rate is 5.2%.
