(Incoming emotional thread, 1/9)
I left The Alligator office for the last time as sports editor an hour ago. For the 16th and final time, I budgeted inches, edited words, and, as night bled into morning, collectively descended into insanity with my best friends in the world
"it's been hard trying to ignore it"
An emotional Kemore Gamble, whose mother was in the ICU for two months, says he's been on the phone or texting his family every day.
Gamble, with his mother in attendance, had 122 yards and two touchdowns today
Diabate says he likes playing for Dan Mullen because of his obsession with football, says he's a very intellectual guy and Mullen can psychologically push him
I always knew it wasn’t goodbye

Side note for Twitter discourse today:
Women absolutely belong in sports media. Some of the best and most talented coworkers of my life have been women.
Don’t give dumb people attention they don’t deserve for saying otherwise.
Have a great day everyone
COLUMN - If pressure solidifies carbon atoms into diamond, I think it does the opposite to people; it strips you down until there’s nothing left but who you are, deepest inside, and shoves a mirror in your eyes.

's goodbye to The Alligator.
Texas A&M leadership orders The Battalion to stop printing weekly editions following abrupt ultimatum — join the university, or be stripped of resources, with only a day’s notice.
It’s still a little surreal that this essay, which I started writing nearly a year ago, is actually up online right now. I can’t thank everyone who helped me refine it into what it today enough, and forever grateful Atrium gave these words a home.
"Golf got you outside. Golf gave you an escape. Golf made you happy.
For years, I never grasped why these words bothered me so much."

Absolutely surreal day
Glad this story and these players/families are getting the attention, acceptance and appreciation they deserve
I’m eternally proud of the work
@zacharyahuber
did to make this story what it is through his reporting
Forever
@alligatorSports
@TheAlligator
Student journalists do important work, with
@zacharyahuber
’s story serving as the perfect example. This is disrespectful to him, our paper and every uninvited publication who covers the team.
Updates will continue on the Newbauer story
@TheAlligator
@alligatorSports
This is not ok.

AD Scott Stricklin met behind closed doors with four select reporters for this interview…
Conveniently,
@TheAlligator
was not invited.
@zacharyahuber
worked on this story for months yet he was locked out when Stricklin decides he wants to talk.

women’s basketball coach Cam Newbauer is accused of making racist remarks, throwing basketballs at players, and verbally abusing the team.
“He broke my child…And she didn’t want me to say anything because she thought it would get worse.”
If you read one story today, read this one.
Phenomenal reporting by
@zacharyahuber
to take an inside look into Newbauer’s tenure and tell the stories of those involved.
It was an honor to do my small part in ensuring it sees both the newsstand and social feeds.

(For legal reasons and/or my mom, this is a joke)
I did a lot over the last few months as sports editor, and even more over my four semesters at the greatest paper in the world, both as a reporter and as an editor
I don’t know if I did it all smart. In fact, I know I didn’t. But I sure hope I did it right.

It is super fun when an athlete buys into the culture of a university and everything that comes with it, especially rivalries and traditions
I don't think it's fair to demand that they do so
There are tons of UF fans who go to FSU, UGA, etc.
Not a soul among the UF fan base would find those students disrespectful if they celebrated a UF national championship on their social media, they’d encourage it.

Life is not lived in smart moments. It’s lived in small ones, ones we often forget the moment they end. Carving time out of your day for a friend, sending someone a text, asking people if they’re okay, voicing your support and appreciation whether you think it’s needed or not
To everyone on staff, thank you for the good you do
