Heroic and successful efforts were made to save working machines close to the edge of the
#lava
. The machines were being used to construct defensive walls against lava flow into #
#Grindav
ík - the same walls along which workers drove the machinery to safety.
A reminder that RÚV English, the English language service of Iceland's national broadcaster
@RUVohf
, reports the latest on the
#eruption
at
#Grindav
ík on the live blog. Follow along here.
The
#eruption
on the
#Reykjanes
Peninsula continues. Yesterday, lava flowed down to a gravel mine, used to provide materials for construction projects. Watch the dramatic video here.
As of 9am GMT, Nov 14, there has been NO volcanic
#eruption
across
#Reykjanes
- any footage you see on social media of an eruption is old, and maybe not even from Iceland. If an eruption happens it will be reported by RÚV and other reputable outlets immediately.
#Grindavik
The
#eruption
on the
#Reykjanes
Peninsula might be reaching a more stable state, but it's not over. These images were taken by RÚV's Ragnar Visage yesterday.
Icelandic national anthem:
"With Thee is each day as a thousand years,
Each thousand of years, but a day,
Eternity's flower, with its homage of tears,
That reverently passes away."

Some social media users are posting old footage of previous volcanic eruptions and implying it is of the current seismic activity in Reykjanes. As of this post - 2.30pm GMT on Nov 12 - there has NOT been an eruption - although one may follow. Please repost this if you can. Takk!
Some social media users are posting old footage of previous volcanic eruptions and suggesting it is connected to the current seismic activity in Reykjanes. As of 1pm GMT on November 11 there has NOT been an eruption - although one may of course follow. Meanwhile, be aware.
RÚV's webcams have been pointed at various areas of seismic and previous volcanic activity for the last few years, however - and they haven't only captured lava making its way across the ground...
Civil Defence asks all residents who left Grindavík today to call the Red Cross on 1717, and register their departure.

Magma plumes are now rising from a 200-metre-long crack, according to a post on the Met Office's Facebook page. It also says that the walk to the eruption is long and the terrain challenging.
Diana Alvarez, a master's student at the Laboratory of Volcanology and Natural Hazards at
@Haskoli_Islands
takes samples from flowing lava.
The samples are used to detect the chemical composition, viscosity, temperature and degree of crystallinity.
Latest findings reveal magma's depth under 1km, even shallower.
Flow is significant, suggesting an imminent eruption. Expert from Icelandic Met Office warns of strong indications.
Did you see the pod of
#dolphins
containing at least a hundred animals near
#Reykjav
ík today? They were seen from
#Harpa
, and near
#Sundah
öfn. Enjoy this
#video
, with thanks to cameraman Gunnar Kvaran, of the dolphins moving through the water!
Thank you for your patience as cameras were moved and reinstalled - there are now three web streams available to watch from RÚV's cameras on the
#Reykjanes
Peninsula.
We've received pictures of tourists walking on the lava near the crater. The routes will remain closed until Saturday, owing to weather conditions and visitor conduct
Close proximity to the eruption may result in cracking of crater rims and potential lava flows

The
#eruption
continues and
#lava
still flows, albeit very slowly. It may yet reach the road on
#Iceland
's south coast, and then the sea, but that remains unlikely. RÚV English's live blog carries any significant updates.
As another eruption of Fagradalsfjall looks possible, we take a look back at last year's eruption.
It now seems at least possible that for the third year in a row, Fagradalsfjall will erupt.
Remember - as with previous
#eruptions
,
#flights
to, from and within
#Iceland
are NOT affected by this
#eruption
. An announcement from the Airport reads "
#Keflav
ík Airport and regional airports in
#Iceland
are not impacted and fully operational."
As of 6.45am Wednesday there has still been NO eruption across
#Reykjanes
or in
#Grindav
ík. The rolling RÚV English live blog always at the top of this page:
A powerful
#avalanche
fell on the road in the
#Westfjords
last night, near #Ísafjörður. Eyewitness Haukur Vagnsson captured this dramatic
#drone
footage of the road being ploughed.
Access to the area has been opened from Suðurstrandarvégur, but not from other roads.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office will issue an updated hazard map of the area in an hour or so.
You would have to walk about 20 km round trip. Would you do it?
Þorvaldur Þórðarson, Professor in Volcanology and Petrology at the University of Iceland: "educated guess" is eruption could happen within 10 days, & cold weather/snow would have only tiny effect on solidifying lava.
The

#eruption
on

#Reykjanes
Peninsula is into its third day. Follow the RÚV English live blog for more. (RÚV English is English language news and programming from Iceland's national broadcaster,

As of 9am GMT on Thursday 16 November, there has still been NO eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
Japanese ski jumper Ryoyu Kobayashi made several attempts to jump over 300m on the Hlíðarfjall slope in Akureyri. According to sources, he covered a distance of 256m in his last jump, which means he jumped further than the current world record.
Myths around eruptions and closures have damaged Icelandic tourism, due to the irresponsible use of old footage by international media and so-called "influencers".
Another relatively quiet night on the
#Reykjanes
Peninsula, with no
#eruption
as of 9am, Nov 14. The chance of one remains significant. Bookmark - that is where you can find our rolling live blog with new information as it happens.
The fourth
#eruption
in as many months continues on the
#Reykjanes
Peninsula. Activity has decreased dramatically since it began, but it's not (quite?) over yet. Watch
#live
here.
The activity of the volcanic eruption at Litli-Hrútur on the Reykjanes Peninsula has decreased, but it did not lack for power last night, as these images by Ragnar Visage show.
A TEST of the warning system for eruptions in
#Grindav
ík & Blue Lagoon will take place tonight, Mon 26 Feb. The sirens will be active for less than a minute at 22:00. If there is real danger, the sirens will remain active. Please consider reposting.
Fissure eruptions like these do NOT affect
#flights
to and from
#Iceland
. Ash is not produced, unlike the events of 2010, when a very different kind of
#eruption
happened under glacial ice and generated a great deal of ash.

🚨BREAKING🚨: public access to eruption is now CLOSED
The police chief in Suðurnes has decided to close public access to the eruption at least until Saturday.
Follow the developments here
"We assess that the magma is very close to the surface, and now we just have to wait and see if it manages to break through the last barrier or not," said Lovísa Mjöll Guðmundsdóttir, a natural hazard specialist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
