Erstwhile SEND teacher/children's poet π Heretical Globularist π Views mine (obvs) & not those of my publishers π€ I prioritise child safeguarding π‘οΈ
Dear
@PhilipPullman
, I was very disappointed to hear you describe me as a 'hateful voice'. Given that you don't know me, I thought I'd introduce myself. I am a trained teacher of special needs who has 30+ yrs experience with vulnerable, and sometimes very challenging children
@jk_rowling
Over the decades I've worked with young women/girls requiring intimate care no males have EVER been allowed this access. This is not progress, it's a safeguarding nightmare.
Tonight, 3 lads jumped the barriers at the train station. When asked not to by a female worker, one lad shouted back 'F**k off you cunt. Bitch' Couldn't help myself & bellowed 'Mind...Your...Language' in my best teacher voice. He squared up but I kept my gaze. He apologised. π
@PeterTatchell
If he does NOT represent the community why was he leading the march & taking a prime spot behind a megaphone at the speeches? And why did the large crowd cheer?
Dear publishing people, My Body is Me! was not published by a hate group but by someone who has just been awarded a British Empire Medal for SERVICES TO CHILDREN.
Do keep up.
National Autistic Society have finally removed its link to Mermaids now they're subject to a full statutory enquiry
About time - we've been writing to them for years.
@SpitfireAudio
Christian is entirely right to be concerned about social and medical transitioning of autistic children. I speak as one with an autism dx, who's raised an asc son to adulthood, with training as a specialist teacher working with autistic youth. It is you that needs educating.
The children's book industry is witnessing the most horrific onslaught of abuse towards a much-loved, measured, brave & generous woman author. The overwhelming silence from other authors, publishers, book organisations etc is disgraceful. You should all be ashamed of yourselves
Due to sustained bullying received from within the children's publishing industry for speaking out on gender issues, I am withdrawing from public life as an author for the sake of my mental health. I still have 2 picture books & one poetry collection due which I'll promote here.
I'm never going to forget who the fuckers were who destroyed my publishing career because I wrote My Body is Me!
Nor those who stood by and watched it happen.
I'm reporting
@jk_rowling
to the police for being a more successful children's author than I am. Everyday she reminds me, simply by being herself, that I'm not and never will be her.
World Book Day is a particularly difficult one for me π
Today a taxi driver told me how his daughter, disaffected at school but who loves sports is now bunking off from her PE lessons bc she doesn't want to change in communal rooms or use 'gender-neutral' toilets. Parents stop off at a cafe toilet on way home from school βΉοΈ
difficulties such things bring. Last year I wrote a very sweet picture book (have you read it?) which encourages very young ch. to love their young bodies. This book is incredibly inclusive & is as important for ch. with physical challenges as it is for those who may experience
A considered difference of opinion over treatment pathways, if you will. Given that nearly 40% of the children who are referred to GIDS show strong autistic traits, I feel that I am allowed to have an opinion on this issue. For my sins I have been openly bullied & my reputation
Jessica Ahlberg, whom I'm assuming you must tar with the same hateful brush. I get nothing from the sales of the book. I did not write it to further my career (ha!) or to earn money, I wrote it because I believe in a 'watchful waiting' rather than an 'affirmation' approach.
in scenarios that you & most authors would probably not survive a day in. I have an exemplary record in schools in this, and as a visiting author. I have also got a late autism diagnosis & have raised an asc son to adulthood as a single parent of 3, with all the accompanying
If I were a responsible children's author who'd attended a rally at which the key speaker called for violence against any specific group of people, I would be at pains to put out a public statement distancing myself from that behaviour & message.
Just saying.
everytime you see the word 'gender' replace it with 'sexist stereotype' & it all becomes a little clearer.
'sexist stereotype affirming'
'assigned sexist stereotype at birth'

'sexist stereotype non-conforming'
'sexist stereotype identity'
etc
I've worked with children ever since I stopped being one - 42 years & counting. I've seen many pedagogical/child-rearing fads and approaches come & go. Nothing comes close to the current dangerous 'wrong body' propaganda peddled by teachers, parents & children's authors.

Meanwhile, countless autistic, lesbian & vulnerable women & girls are waking up to the fact that they have undergone elective mastectomies bc they believed this bs.
Who did it better? The picture book for toddlers that depicts an elective double mastectomy on the front cover or the one telling young children they are perfect as they are? One is celebrated, one villified. You choose.
Imagine running a literary agency & thinking that it's fine to remove a muslim woman author from the shortlisted image, circulate it & then boast about this on twitter.
Grow up.
After the industry bullying I received for publishing My Body is Me! I stopped writing. It just dried up & I haven't been able to write for 4 years. Recently, I had an idea for a rhyming picture book - a lighthearted one about magic words. Pleased, I sent the text to my agent
Joanne Harris' response on Radio 4 seemed to be 'It's all very complicated'. From where I'm standing it is pretty simple. I wrote a book encouraging very young children to love their bodies. Joanne Harris, along with other SoA management committee members retweeted
In the 30+ years of working with disabled children, I've never once told them their bodies are wrong & I'm not about to start saying it to able-bodied children.
I'm getting lots of private messages of support ( some from people in the industry) Apologies if I don't respond straight away. I'm trying to conserve my energies right now x
We're conducting a mass social experiment on children. We've an entire generation of 7 year olds who've been told, since birth, & by trusted adults, that their bodies MAY be innately 'wrong' & need fixing. It's not the win some think it is.
I'll retweet this in 10 years.
I've spent most of my adult life working with children, some of who are typically abled and others who have physical, sensory, neurological or medical differences & challenges. And guess what? Not one of them was 'born in the wrong body'.
Not one.
Remember when a clique of children's authors smeared my good name bc I published My Body is Me! with Transgender Trend? These people continue to have writing careers while supporting & fundraising for
#Mermaids
, an organisation with paedophile links & safeguarding red flags.
We've challenged Mermaids' claim to speak for trans-identifying children since 2015.
We've gathered evidence, investigated & campaigned.
We've said Mermaids isn't fit for purpose.
Mermaids & those cheering them on must be held to account for their actions.
Friend's son got a behaviour point for saying 'Goodbye, Sir.' to his 'non binary' bearded male teacher, when leaving the classroom. Apparently, he was supposed to use their first name. Seems a bit extreme to me.
@jk_rowling
Me:specialist sen trained with over 30 yrs teaching experience + personal/familial understanding of autism having similar concerns writes a picture book encouraging young children to celebrate themselves *as they are*. Them: bigot writes terrorist propaganda! Solidarity JKR x
I've been going to Pride on & off since the mid 80's & I don't recall any of the top speakers there having a history of kidnap, torture & attempted murder while bearing a placard inciting death to a children's author. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough.
@ex_vangelical
@SchoolReading
Can I ask why you liked this defamatory post? Have you read mine & JessicaAhlberg's book? Are you saying that we shouldn't send a message to 3-6 yr olds encouraging them to love themselves?
Emotive framing of gender-critical authors as 'transphobes' is disingenuous & manipulative. Our warnings about the dangers of puberty blockers, the failures at Tavistock GIDS, the scandal of cavalier medicalisation of autistic youth are now recognised to be valid & ahead of time.
The last few days have been awful for me since someone in publishing quote tweeted something I'd written & claimed they were the subject of it. ( Not that any of my followers had a clue who it was & the person getting no backlash!) This has resulted in 100's of their chums
Yesterday I was sent a long email from a primary school teacher. She's happy for me to share it here. I suspect there are many stories similar to this one out there.
As a student I worked night shifts in a hostel for women on probation & parole. The manger told me that every woman resident was there as a consequence of male abuse, coercion & control.

'Are children really more emotional and irrational than adults?' If you've never had to exactly align the panda picture with the spout of the sippy cup for fear of a 3 hr meltdown then I guess not.
Hey,

I think you need to update your links on your website. Why are you signposting autistic youth to

JK's position is always used against her as some kind of gotcha. And yet this was the chair's response to me - knowing full well what was happening to me ( a member) I was blocked after this.
Children's publishing has created a world where an established publisher can produce a kids book depicting an adult male with self-harm scars identifying as a girl yet will demonise an indie picture book & its author for telling young kids they're fine as they are.
Shame on you.

"This is a dangerous book. It introduces confusion to children where none was necessary."
A child clinical psychologist reviews The Gender Book, a picture book for 5 -12 year-olds.
A is for Autists. A number of these

B is for Bullshit. The lies that were spread

C is for Cis. It's Latin you know!

Try this book for 3-6 year olds. It celebrates every child, what their bodies can do for them & busts sexist gender stereotypes. It incidentally features same-sex parents. Available from

I, at 60, have no concept of what it 'feels like to be a woman'. So how can a 5 yr old boy make life-changing decisions to go down that pathway when they have difficulty identifying & naming basic feelings such as anger, jealousy, anxiety etc.
Social transitioning is wrong.
Peter Tatchell insists that we all have a gender identity, dictated by our clothes. The audience member shouting out "rubbish" at the end is just glorious.
When I began to speak out about gender ideology & the harmful indoctrination of children I was firmly told by someone who had power over my publishing career to keep quiet bc 'there's a lot of money behind it in publishing'. Behind it. Not in it. π€
Today, as
@jk_rowling
is trending, i have just finished my last workshop for children. Iβm contemplating my future life outside of a publishing career. My first task will be to set down in writing, in no uncertain terms, the full reasons why I have come to this decision. βοΈπͺπ
Why are adults encouraging boys & girls to reject their biological sex & what are the consequences? Why are we saying there's a right way ( any way!) to 'feel like a boy/girl' & how might a child interpret that? Why are we creating artificial boxes to put children in?
As someone who has had their career destroyed for speaking out on this, I've nothing to left to lose. I fully intend to continue challenging & highlighting the teachers, publishers, authors & literacy agencies who promote the 'wrong body' message to children. Get used to it.
Hello to my new followers π
I'm a children's author & teacher who has raised concerns around teaching of gender ideology & the treatment pathways for children with dysphoria. My thoughts on this align with those of Dr David Bell speaking here...
Imagine a picture book that tells 3-6 yr olds they can choose to be a boy or a girl - or indeed neither/ both. This isn't progressive - it's gaslighting & destabilising for children.
Yesterday, as I was listening to a gender activist shout at me, I was accused of 'nodding like a man' - like it was some kind of gotcha. So odd. How does a man nod? What was the point he was trying to make?
Remember those authors who signed a letter stating puberty blockers were harmless?
Recall the mid-grade book which recently won shedloads of industry awards telling kids that puberty blockers were a viable option to stop you going through the 'wrong puberty'?
I do.
Another children's publishing big hitter 'comes out' as they/them complete with candy coloured profile, flag and cheers. Call me cynical but the inclusion of another hetero adult male into the alphabet community will do nothing for gay rights or for genuinely dysphoric children.
No child is born in the wrong body. There's no such thing as innate gender identity. There are only 2 sexes. Women and girls are entitled to single-sex spaces. Autistic & gay youth, particularly girls are being damaged by gender ideology. This is my considered opinion.
Can anyone in publishing/education tell me why one would put an illustration of a young adult with an elective double mastectomy on a picture book for 5 yr olds? Is this appropriate for a book that purports to promote body positivity to very young children, particularly girls?
It's
#GenderWooWoo
day. Here's a slide Mermaids use in their training to try to convince parents & teachers that a child may need their services. Stop trying to offer simplistic (dangerous) solutions to complex, vulnerable, developing children's needs.
I've gained around 1000 followers since people became aware of recent events. Most seem to be book readers who are interested in children & education. This should send a strong message to the publishing world.
It's a loss for me - & dare I say it, a loss for children's poetry too.
On the plus side, there's a certain liberation to be had :) Fingers crossed my supporters keep buying my books & my lurkers actually read the gender/ sex articles I post here.
