A thread detailing my dispute with @Ladbrokes over extremely unfair resettlement of a winning bet: On Saturday 18th February I placed four bets, each with a stake of €5, in a Ladbrokes shop on Darts Players Championship #3 ~ Outright Winner to be Kim Huybrechts @ 500/1. (1/11)

Haven’t been able to watch the build up to a Boxing fight with a straight face since this moment of absolute magic on BT a few years back. Still the funniest thing I’ve ever seen on a sports channel.

@LeoVaradkar We’re the laughing stock of Europe. 5,000 going to French Ligue 1 games & you won’t let 500 go to a GAA match in a 20k capacity stadium. Pubs open across Europe for 3 months but you’ve drove our industry into the ground. A complete embarrassment of a situation.

A few different people have messaged me this evening to say that their online bets have now been resettled at the original price of 500/1 & I have arranged a callback with Ladbrokes tomorrow morning so am hoping this will see the issue resolved. Thanks to everyone who retweeted.

However, given other similar examples of misconduct from Ladbrokes that have surfaced in recent days, I believe this is now symptomatic of internal policy which is unfair, unethical & a breach of GC licensing conditions. I will continue to update as the case progresses (11/11)

Got my first #Huybrechts docket paid out from Lads on Grafton St just there (at correct price 500s). Popped into the toilets of the Costa up the road to double check that it was correct amount & the lock broke off the toilet door from the inside. This gambling game ain’t easy.

From speaking to other customers, it transpires that Ladbrokes waited until Huybrechts won his first 6 matches & then decided to cancel Retail bets & re-price online bets to 100/1 in order to minimise potential losses. This is an egregious abuse of the palpable error rule. (7/11)

If the Irish media had put half as much effort into scrutinising the NPHET guidelines themselves as they have done investigating Phil Hogan’s country road trip, then we’d all be able to go for a pint on our way to a GAA match this weekend, and that’s a fact.

What the rule is not there for is to allow traders to have a retrospective do-over on bets they’d prefer to have laid at slightly shorter odds & to withhold funds from a customer who has placed a fair bet at a fair price – a price which had been checked before accepting. (8/11)

Late Cheltenham tip for backers in Boyles Retail ~ if you bet Lucky 15s in shops you’re better off writing out: €1 Singles x4 €1 Yankee x11 That will leave the Singles eligible for BOG whereas a L15 will mean they’re excluded. Not a criticism, it’s likely a system limitation.

The palpable error rule is only supposed be applied in instances where the error is obvious. The rule has its merits in the instance of genuine palps. In this instance, that would be something like Peter Wright being posted at 500/1 instead of 5/1. (7/11)
