AEW has a perception issue. Had it from day one. It isn't just to be accepted at the WWE level in the mainstream, it's also to be taken seriously within the pro wrestling bubble. Both continue to be equally hard to overcome. TNA/Impact was never able to do it.

This NXT live crowd goes from chanting for Roddy, to chanting for Steiner's kid, to chanting for Ciampa to kill Steiner's kid. It's not a 50/50 split at any point. They cheer for everyone in turns. How can you even do pro wrestling like that. So inauthentic. Shit atmosphere.

I don't like the WWE/AEW or WWE/WCW comparison re AAA vs CMLL The former is/was very much a business rivalry. The latter has involved sabotage from within, death threats, deportation, guns, man on woman violence, the Mexican FBI & fathers disowning sons. These are not the same.

I don't say this lightly... In terms of current generation Mexican wrestlers as influences - there was Rey Jr. & everyone else way below. But now Fenix is stepping into the Rey Jr. role. He will be the guy young luchadors list for the next 20+ years as their biggest influence.

My favorite dive to this day! TAKA was masterful here. Aguila was only 20 yrs old. Super green, less than a handful of pro singles matches. In the span of 10 months he went from local Guadalajara wrestler to debuting @ Arena Mexico to working Wrestlemania. Unfathomable really.
