Chef Michel Roux has announced that Le Gavroche site at 43 Upper Brook St will close in January after 56 years. He said he wants to make time for a better work/life balance, and to spend more time with his family without the daily demands of a Michelin restaurant.

Maybourne Hotels says it will be hosting up to 40 NHS workers from St Mary’s Hospital Paddington at Claridge’s from April 3, and may add The Connaught / The Berkeley. Claridge’s will be providing supper and breakfast for them as well as daily packed meals for 500+ NHS workers.

Chef Brett Graham says he cannot reopen the Ledbury as long as social distancing is in place and he doesn't know what will happen after that. All suppliers have been paid in full at their usual rate and there are no outstanding invoices. Staff are in a consultation period.

The Rick Stein Marlborough restaurant has been saved after the landlord agreed a 25% cut in rent, averting a planned closure. @Rick_Stein . The restaurant will now reopen permanently and all of its 39 staff have been invited to return to their jobs.

Michel Roux Jr is inviting friends of pandemic heroes to nominate them for a chance to dine at Le Gavroche. There are 25 Tables for Heroes available from June. The successful nominees will be treated to a four course Saturday lunch or dinner with drinks for them and a guest.

When Le Gavroche reopens July 7 @michelrouxjr says:  We will have an eight-course tasting menu for lunch or dinner plus a four-course for dinner. There will be a smaller menu of individually priced dishes. We will continue to offer our famous set price lunch menu during the week.

Nusr-Et London, which opened Nusr-Et Steakhouse at The Park Tower Knightsbridge on 23 September, showed that turnover stood at £7,028,066, with pre-tax profit of £2,235,086 and Ebitda of £2,832,832 to 31 December, Propel newsletter reports.

Waitrose this week become the first UK supermarket to introduce a gin made in Japan. Roku, from The House of Suntory, features six Japanese botanicals, including two styles of green tea (Sencha and Gyokuru), Yuzu, Sanshō pepper and Sakura cherry blossom, flower and leaf. £30.

Chefs @PierreKoffmann and Marco Pierre White plan to open a restaurant together at The Abbey Hotel, in Bath, this September. Koffmann & Mr White’s will be a brasserie-style venue serving French and English classics. There are plans for a roll-out by Black & White Hospitality.

Opening Spring 2021 on Albemarle Street is ‘Bar des Prés’, the first international venture for French chef Cyril Lignac. In Paris, the restaurant originally served only raw food, but in London the menu will offer Franco/East Asian creations both warm and cold. 100 covers.

The Museum of London will acquire Syd’s coffee stall when it closes for tomorrow, 20 December, after 100 years. The stall has sat on Calvert Avenue, off Shoreditch High Street, since 1919 and has passed through three generations from Syd Tothill to granddaughter Jane Tothill.

Jonny Lake and Isa Bal, who worked together for 12 years at The Fat Duck Group, say their new restaurant/bar will be in the Snowsfields Yard development, London Bridge. The 3,500 sf space will seat 75 guests in the dining room and 20-25 in the bar. Opening in autumn. No name yet.

JKS Restaurants will tomorrow launch home delivery and take-away from a number of the restaurants. Customers will be able to order a Gymkhana or Brigadiers delivery for the first time, Hoppers, Berenjak and Motu Indian Kitchen will have more locations and wider delivery radiuses.
