we're joined by John Doe, the former Blackhawks player at the centre of the team's sexual abuse scandal.
He has asked us to reveal his identity and you will hear him speak his truth. It's a privilege to offer a platform to someone with such courage.
Meanwhile in Germany, Kyle Beach started his first hockey game Friday night since our Oct. 27 interview on

"Clean scans!"
Best words in any language.
Oncologist also has given my brave boy the ok to resume hockey. Wow!

I'm speechless at the response to Kyle sharing his story.
Hundreds have reached out already to offer support for him and to share their own abuse stories that happened in pro & amateur sports, schools & churches, the military and within families.
Thank you for your trust.

New: Canadian Tire is permanently ending its relationship with Hockey Canada, in what is the most significant corporate response so far in HC's expanding scandal.
CT, one of HC's "international" level corporate partners, told me HC "continues to resist meaningful change..."
On the advice of family, friends and colleagues, taking a break from the phone for a while.
Back next week with more reporting. Thanks to everyone again for your support for our reporting and for reaching out to share your own experiences.
Worth remembering that 37 people contacted by the law firm investigating the Black Hawks scandal either did not respond to a request for an interview or flat out refused to cooperate.
For those abuse survivors who reached out, thanks for your messages. I will read all of them in time.
Same for those who are sending documents & suggesting stories.
I appreciate so many have been affected by Kyle's interview.
Back tomorrow with more new reporting on this story.
Max Parrot was in hospital receiving treatment 3 years ago today for Hodgkin lymphoma.
Because his cancer was near his heart and lungs it was too dangerous for radiation. So Max underwent *12 rounds* of chemotherapy.
Now he's an Olympic champion. Amazing.

Brad Aldrich served 9 months in jail for abusing a 16-yr-old hockey player.
That player & his family have been destroyed.
I asked Gary Bettman today if NHL will cover the family's counselling costs.
Bettman needs "more information."
I'll talk about it tonight on
@CTVNationalNews
.
If I was talking to NHL players today, I'd ask how they would feel about hoisting/drinking from the Stanley Cup knowing it features the name of a convicted sexual predator who has preyed on one of their own.
(NHL won't respond to my questions about Aldrich's name on the Cup.)
I'm so pleased for Kyle Beach, who is transitioning to a new phase in his hockey career.
Kyle will be an assistant coach this season with Trinity Western University's men's team in Langley, B.C.
He's in a good space and I'm so happy for him.

At Starbucks this morning.
Waiting in line when a woman behind me says, "Hey Rick."
I look at her. No clue...
A few pleasantries before she tells me her daughter has been wanting to connect with me. Just waiting for a national sports organisation to release her from an NDA...
Had an opportunity this afternoon to watch our interview with Kyle.
I don't think we can repeat it often enough what it will mean to other abuse survivors moving forward to see Kyle being so honest, so vulnerable.
Courage personified.
We'll have more new reporting up shortly.

Years ago during All-Star in Nashville, I was introduced to Claude Giroux at Tootsie's.
I asked if he worked for Radio-Canada.
Him: "No... I work for the Flyers."
Me: "What do you do for them?"
Him: "I play centre."
No one here has a perfect record.
The support today from so many corners is appreciated.
Back at it tomorrow with new original reporting on the Blackhawks and more.
We remain committed to continuing to dig into stories about abuse that hold the powerful accountable and give a voice to the voiceless.

Spoke today to sports marketing exec who told me multiple sponsors have "put the NHL on notice" to improve response to Blackhawks abuse scandal.
NHL brand significantly tarnished over past week, exec says, adding some sponsors unhappy with league's crisis management.
So Aldrich's name is off the cup. And those of John McDonough, Stan Bowman, Al MacIsaac, and Joel Quenneville remain... not to mention Kyle's former teammates who further victimized him with homophobic slurs.

Huberdeau's pledge follows that of Devils defensemen Ben Lovejoy, who in December 2017 became the first active NHL player to make that commitment.

She’ll share how the abuse has affected her son & offer her reaction to Gary Bettman's comments on the scandal.
Brad Aldrich was sentenced to nine months in jail in 2014 for abusing John Doe 2, the former high school player. Aldrich a registered sex offender.

A young man in Michigan was assaulted by Brad Aldrich when he was barely 16. He summoned the courage to tell police what happened and pressed charges. He is the reason Aldrich is a registered sex offender.
