Red wolves, Brave & Diego are first time parents!! Born on May 5, this is a historic birth for our Zoo & an emblem of hope for the survival of this species. Only 15-20 red wolves remain in the wild. This is the first red wolf born at RWPZoo since 2005!

Tree kangaroo joey's typically leave the pouch permanently at around 10 months old. Even then, they will continue to nurse. At nearly 10 months old, Paia still loves to nap in mom Keweng's pouch.

We are elated to announce the birth of a baby sloth! Born to mom Fiona and dad Westley, this adorable newborn is resting comfortably and keeping close to mom.
They say that sharing is caring, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy! Tree kangaroo Mom, Keweng was not very interested in sharing her delectable celery treats with her little one. Luckily, Paia got in a couple of good bites 😂

Today we not only celebrate Keweng's 3rd birthday, but we are elated to announce the arrival of her joey, Paia! Paia, which means fire, was named after her mom's feisty personality.
Rusty the red panda to brighten your day!
Red pandas are built for these chilly temperatures - their thick fur even covers the bottom of their feet keeping them warm, even in snowy conditions.
We're overjoyed to celebrate the birth of twin golden lion tamarins! This adorable pair, newly named Hildreth & Colin, were born on April 26.
Golden lion tamarins are critically endangered, so every birth is incredibly significant & a conservation win for this species!
My what big ears you have, Norman! The massive ears of a bat-eared fox are so sensitive they can hear bugs underground!
The bat-eared fox is the world’s only true insectivore canid. In the wild, termites and dung beetles make up 80-90 percent of this species’ diet.

Though baby Paia is starting to spend time outside of mom Keweng's pouch, she rarely leaves mom's side. Keweng will wean Paia when she's about a year old, but she will stay close to mom for about a year and a half.

HELLO LITTLE FLOOF! We are happy to share a Chilean flamingo chick has hatched. This now five-day old chick is a historical birth for our Zoo; the first flamingo born at RWPZoo in 22 years. Mom is doing a great job tending to her little one.

Tree kangaroos are marsupials. Like their kangaroo cousins, the majority of the joey’s physical development occurs in the mom’s pouch.
We're ecstatic to announce the birth of two red wolf pups! ❤️ Born on April 29, they are the second litter for our endangered red wolf parents, Brave & Diego, & the newest siblings to Saluda.

It is with the deepest sadness that the Zoo announces the passing of our beloved female red panda, Sha-Lei. Sha-Lei uplifted and inspired all who met her. While we mourn her loss, her impact on our world is unmistakable, and unforgettable. ❤️
Meet Norman, the bat-eared fox!
The bat-eared fox is a small, African fox known for its enormous ears that are over 5 inches tall. These ears give them incredible hearing & are great at keeping them cool, but they also make them quite adorable ☺️
Surprise! 💗The RWPZoo family got a little bigger with the birth of four North American river otters – two girls & two boys. Born to mom Mishi & dad Clyde, who passed away last April 2020, these quadruplet pups squeezed their way into our hearts with their arrival on February 1.

The New England Cottontail is the only rabbit species native to New England & had been nearly wiped out by the non-native Eastern cottontail. Today, more than 340 NE Cottontails have been reintroduced to the wild.

At 20-months-old, this quirky and sassy girl has already won the hearts of Zoo staff and is increasingly settling in with her giraffe companions, especially our other female Cora.

Long claws enable tamandua to dig into nests, and a long sticky tongue licks up the insects. A single tamandua can eat up to 9,000 ants in a single day!
Tiago’s ready for his close-up! Tiago is a Bolivian gray titi monkey that lives with his brother Rio and dad Mojito. Titi monkeys spend most of their time together huddling, grooming and entwining their tails.
Your much needed dose of red wolf pup cuteness! 🐺❤️ Although this footage is from a couple weeks ago and our red wolf pup is growing quickly, she still enjoys a good snuggle. This critically endangered red wolf pup is vital to the survival of the species.

Surprisingly enough, giraffes only need 5 to 30 minutes of sleep in a 24-hour period! Giraffes can rest while standing, but they sometimes also lie down with their head resting on their rump.

Kirk’s dik-diks are native to East Africa and grow to a maximum size of just 23-24 inches, making them one of the smallest species of antelope in the world!

PUPDATE: Our red wolf pups received their first vet check – it’s a girl and a boy! We’re pleased to say both growing pups received a clean bill of health.
The pups were each given their first round of vaccinations, weighed & received a complete physical exam.
The RWPZoo family is heartbroken to share the passing of one of our beloved cheetah, Johari.
The Zoo family will forever hold a very special place in its heart for our sassy, sweet girl. Johari was a wonderful ambassador for conservation and will be deeply missed. ❤️
