Beaker, a giant anteater, celebrated his special day with his usual insectivore diet, mealworms, bananas oranges and cucumbers. He also received an avocado “cake” — yum!

We welcomed a baby girl Masai giraffe, born on Monday, February 7. She is the third calf for eight-year-old mother Sunshine, and the fourth calf sired by 13-year-old father Miguu. ❤️ 🦒

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Rio, a 26-year-old female Andean bear, who was humanely euthanized on Friday.
She was our last original resident of the Forest of Uco and is known for her big personality and penchant for doing things on her own schedule.
It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our female black howler monkey, Olivia. At 26 years old, Olivia well surpassed the median life expectancy of 17.8 years for her species and had been closely monitored for declining health and age-related issues.

Two litters of kits and two adults from the Phoenix Zoo, have been living outdoors at the National Black-Footed Ferret Conservation Center since late August. They’re gaining skills they need to live in the wild and are on track to be released soon!
We are excited to announce the arrival of 21 black-footed ferret kits!
The Zoo is one of six facilities worldwide breeding black-footed ferrets for release to the wild. The species is considered one of North America’s most endangered species.
