A quick word on Live A Live and why it's a big deal that we're getting an upgraded Switch release. The game is largely unknown outside of Japan, which is confounding. Let me explain why.
I’m always amazed at how well-defined Breath of the Wild’s core environmental rules and game systems are. If YOU can get Cucco-swarmed, you better believe you can set up an enemy for a humiliating death by chicken, no matter how big.
IGN turns 25 today. Our little online brand launched the same day as the N64. Back when Excite was the search engine of choice and YouTube and social networks didn't yet exist. The fact that it's still around is thanks to our great employees -- past and present. And you.
Let's be clear: you don't just argue. You insult people. Tossing “snowflake” at someone’s head might work for you when nobody’s listening, but nah, you don’t get to walk away from this argument this easily today.
@PeerIGN
(side note) I argue because I DON'T expect everyone to agree with me. It's also amusing that someone from a mainstream video game media outlet accuses ME of being an elitist.
re-release of Live A Live the way they campaigned for Mother 3, this is a top-tier JRPG whose time in the spotlight is way overdue. Big, big thumbs up to Square-Enix for not only bringing it back, but giving it some sparkly Octopath paint. /End
If you see single screenshots of the game, you might be really confused. Live A Live is like seven different RPGs all rolled into one. Each scenario isn't just set in a different "world" or time zone, it also plays differently from the others. And then an eighth chapter pulls...
The artist on the Japanese ninja scenario, for example, was manga artist Gosho Aoyama (Detective Conan). The music remains one of Square's best soundtracks, composed by Yoko Shimomura -- the woman behind Street Fighter II's music, Kingdom Hearts, Super Mario RPG, and many more.
it all together. It's incredibly ambitious. The turn-based, grid-system battle system is shared across the scenarios, but the western scenario focuses on gunplay, while others go for hand-to-hand combat.

In 1991, years after I had fallen out of love with gaming (after the Atari/C64 days), two of my university friends in Tokyo gave me a Super Famicom and Super Mario World for my birthday. I still talk to the one friend every week.
The other one I married in 1997.
The scenarios range from prehistory (all interactions are basically emoji based since language wasn't invented yet) to spaghetti western to modern day to medieval times to an Alien-style creepy space adventure (and more). Each scenario was designed by a different artist.
Housecleaning Day. Found these Pokémon stickers from before the games were localized. Some of the early names are funny, like LA and NY — and of course the mighty SKULKRAKEN!
If that's not enough pedigree for you, know that the game was directed by the lead designer of Final Fantasy IV, Takashi Tokita, who went on to be the director of Chrono Trigger and Parasite Eve. But enough name-dropping. Just know this: while RPG fans didn't obsess over a...
Remember: don’t rage-cancel; keep HBO, even if the Game of Thrones ending pisses you off. Otherwise you’ll miss out on the rest of Chernobyl, the top TV drama so far this year. I’m serious, please watch it.
In just a few days, thousands of people will get on airplanes and unwittingly set the record for most Nintendo Switch units simultaneously in the air.

If you’re a content creator who is feeling down after the inevitable nasty comment on one of your videos, remember this one... from a Dead Cells video featuring commentary from the people that MADE Dead Cells. And consider: maybe it’s not you after all.
There's been a lot of talk about concerted rating/review bombing for Captain Marvel. Seems like it's still a thing? Our newly published (positive) review of the unreleased movie has 3k downvotes to 2.5k upvotes on YT so far, which is VERY different from most videos we post.
Banjo-Kazooie appearing on a Nintendo platform after all these years is just wonderful. Really, really cool Microsoft and Nintendo worked out this Smash Bros. cameo!
Played a good 9 hours of Luigi’s Mansion 3 yesterday (long flight). It’s quickly become one of my favorite Switch games. If I didn’t know that
@nextlevelgames
made it, I would’ve thought it was the Mario team. The quality of the animations, the inventive levels — don’t miss out!
I wouldn’t mind it if the next Tomb Raider game was just a giant open world scavenger hunt for challenge tombs. I don’t need to save the world. I just want to push blocks, turn mirrors, reroute water, and steal shiny things to, uhhh, put them in a museum.

for me! My favorite E3s so far:
1. 2004: Reveal of Twilight Princess (see image), taking names, Nintendo DS.
2. 2013: PS4's "how to lend a game", Halo, MGSV, MK8, Smash, AC4, FFXV
3. 2003: Half-Life 2, GTA5, Halo 2, PoP, PSP

! Go,
@IGN
!
As promised, here is the final popularity ranking for E3 games, based on IGN traffic for the entire E3 week. Remember, some games were revealed prior to E3 (Pokemon, CoD) and thus don't show up here. Have fun! And thanks for reading and watching!
Okay, people in the
@IGN
office are weird. Why is everyone eating the worst of the three (Swedish Fish) and shunning the vastly superior Sour Patch Kids? Am I in the Upside Down?
Thank you, everyone, for your continued support! I remember when we got our first subscriber on
@YouTube
. What a great journey! Enjoy E3 — we’ll work overtime to bring you the latest and best. ♥️
People have asked "why do you cover Fortnite so much, IGN?" To illustrate, here are the top read/watched gaming topics on IGN for the last week, by popularity. If we included our Snapchat edition in this, the other bars would be even smaller by comparison. Fortnite is a monster!
Trying to drive home... but there are street closures in the SF financial district with helicopters flying above — and a cop said it’s for The Matrix 4 movie shoot. I shall suffer for the arts and drive the long way back. Keanu owes me.
After last night’s excitement (I’m 16 hours ahead of SF), I stumbled into a shut down park in Kagoshima that looks like it’s right out of The Last of Us! What’s worse, I now have a splitting headache. Hope it’s not a fungus.
difficulty, difficulty, difficulty! We get it. You play games for the challenge, because you’re the last remaining manly man. If someone plays a game for the story, for atmosphere, for relaxation, escapism, or for -- ick, gasp, gag -- FUN, we’re just… goodness. Such snowflakes.
That’s it. All
@Ubisoft
games will be delayed a whole day since there’s no way anyone will get any work done tomorrow. :) Congrats on winning the 2018 World Cup, France 🇫🇷. See you in four!

Ok, then. Thanks for contributing to the growing numbers of elitist, rude gamers who can’t fathom that a lesser-skilled player’s or inexperienced kid’s enjoyment could be hampered by high difficulty. How is YOUR enjoyment...
Mandalorian somehow exceeded my expectations of what Star Wars on TV could be like. And Star Wars “defined” me as a kid (I was born in ‘71). What a wonderful season of television!
And yes,
@1MayoRice1
-- your option to make modern games more difficult is this: turn up the difficulty setting. Or seek out one of the many difficult games that still hit the market. Or don't swipe a damn Princess amiibo.
Nintendo is reporting impressive Switch sales for the system’s first nine months, with 14.8 million units sold. That’s a cool million north of the Wii U’s entire run! Plus, Super Mario Odyssey passed 9 million, Mario Kart double-dipped with 7 million, and Zelda is at 6.7 million.
When John has kids, they’re gonna be playing games with spike-covered joysticks encrusted with frozen poison, slogging their way to enjoyment all heroically Ivan-Drago-like while the "libtards" drink mulled wine and miss out on what made games fun in the first place:

Wife and I met in our first year of college in Japan, we’re finally back in Tokyo together for the first time. This is the first photo she suggested we take.
PSA for the many people who are replaying Breath of the Wild right now. We recently added a new feature to our maps tool that lets you check off what Korok Seeds you've already found. Have fun!
