Joseph taking in some fresh air at the vet clinic. His tumour sent off for biopsy, we pray that he recovers from his huge surgery, tiny step by step. What a beautiful start to our weekend.
Surely someone might have noticed his pain? We are always there to help dogs in need, and today, despite risks, the vets performed emergency surgery because without it he had weeks to live. Romania's strays, nobody's dogs, but every life matters to us from the heart.
We found him an hour ago in the city ... an old dog, small, weak, full of wounds and who barely has the strength to stand. He was trying to sleep somehow in a pile of leaves when we got to him. The cold here we cannot explain. It is -7c now already.
The car headlights lit him up. A lonely pup just sitting shivering. His pain, his loneliness and fear made our eyes well up. Not quite sure where he will go, but for now, safe, in the car footwell.
Hit by a car, pregnant she lay there. In shock and pain, her world turned into darkness. The accident took her sight away and she has totally broken our hearts. Safe at the vet tonight, meet Lisa. Her pain has really broken us.
On our way back from the Ukraine border we saw this girl at the side of the main road and we couldn't leave her there. With no houses in sight we think maybe dumped here: she ran straight to us, and tonight she is safe in foster with Vio in Baia Mare.
She broke our hearts when we met her at the government run "shelter". Too petrified to he touched then, finally today we have been able to take her out from her living hell. Every dog matters.
Born with one leg missing, he was quickly abandoned. Taken into our care as a tiny pup, just look at the difference adoption made to Mario's life. Our miracle boy.
Found this morning, she was chained there all night with no way of moving. It was - 10C and our rescuers had to defrost her. The most callous and evil act, we have offered a reward for any information to lead us to the sub human who did this. She is in the vet this evening. 💔
Abandoned so cruelly in Ukraine on a half metre string, his mouth taped shut so he couldn't make noise - or eat - we were lucky our lovely team at Happy Dog Shelter found him so quickly. We will never know what happened to him or why. There is no excuse for animal abuse!
Rescued from the school playground where she couldn't even sit, her pain was so bad. The poor abandoned and abused pup, kicked in her privates, needed emergency surgery. Six days on, and thankfully no parvo, she is already learning that the human touch does not mean abuse.
Look at Aslan today! The first days after he was rescued, he ate and pooped where he sat. He forgot he was no longer tied to a short chain and didn't know he could move about. Still full of worms, but he is already lifting his head and starting to interact with humans.
Hit by a car or truck we think, yet people still passed her by. Imagine the pain she just have been in, yet still she wags her tail. She is now safe. Dogs can teach us so much.
A beautiful end to our weekend as this mum and her baby have come into our care, saved from a horrific life, they will live freely in the fields forever now.
Another angel safe today. Our team in Baia Mare drove 120km after they were told about her, because we couldn't sleep knowing she was out there alone and in pain.
It broke our hearts, he was so sore, alone, hungry in the heat. So sad, he refused to lift his head, and just sat in the car footwell, his head hanging. Our hearts break every day, and our brave team and rescuers in Romania still never turn away from an animal in pain.
Do dogs ever forget? Rescued as a tiny pup, Johnny now lives happily adopted in the UK. His rescuer from Romania came to visit him this weekend - he hadn't seen her for nearly 2 years. Yes, he recognised her! It totally melted our hearts to watch the precious reunion.
Another sweet soul saved today:
Rescued from an area so remote, our rescuers had to carry him 1km to their car. Incredibly malnourished and clearly abandoned, now our treasure. ❤️
Her family brought her to the door so the vet could euthanise her because she is old and blind. We were barely able to hold it together, as they just walked away without turning back. Confused and dazed, her world turned on its head, meet just one of 9 new rescues today.
24 hours later and he rests in the sunshine in the garden of his foster home here in north Romania. Unaware of the tensions here in the region. He is around 14 years old and unbelievably skinny, but so forgiving towards humans. Dogs really can teach humans so much.
In the extreme heat, she sat there in the road. How no one knocked her down we have no idea. No one stopped either - only we did, and she is now safe in our care. Another beautiful Saturday in Romania.
Never a day goes by without our team saving a life. This girl abandoned, probably waiting by the road for her family to come back, which sadly, is all too common. Now safe with us, meet our new girl. Lottie.
A heartbreaking sight, just the worst, when she is exhausted from the heat and all alone in a world where it is our duty to protect animals, not abandon them... and she is now safe in foster.
With his own little safe haven at the shelter, all Boss has done is eat and sleep. Whilst he is far from well, for now, the team are focusing on him sleeping off his extreme exhaustion and lots of small feeds. Thank you for your kind support of this precious boy.
We took the police last week but could not take the tied up dog who had no shelter, as the owner was on holiday. Today, we took him - he will be neutered and taken to foster. Free forever.
We have named him Ollie! Safe in foster, in the quarrantine room for now, he has food, warmth, love, painkillers and medication. Ollie has serious demodex and worms, but finally he is lifting his head and loving his food too - still fearful of being touched, for now.
Remember this boy, Doogie, who was petrified in his pain when we rescued him. Two weeks ago, our brave boy took the next step in his journey and is loving life in his UK foster family. Just look how his life changed in 3 months. Doogie, miracle boy.
The abused girl is in the vet clinic tonight. On IV fluids and tomorrow blood transfusion. She has severe anemia, bones in her stomach from being fed meat bones, pancreatitis, stones in the bladder. Very sick and we don't yet know if she will survive - but we won't give up on her
Afghanistan emergency!

@PenFarthing
and his incredible team.
The vets are worried about Mozart's condition and surgery cannot go ahead yet. He has to have urine taken through a catheter and he wants to stand, but is quite weak. He is alive but we don't know what the future days yet hold for him.
In just 12 nights, this incredible lad will have slept in a tent for ONE YEAR! to raise awareness for stray dogs. You can support and donate here, re tweet to show the world Ashley's determination. Our future generation has hope!
Tonight, we went to a breeder's home. Because the blind puppy in the litter was going to be put on the streets - he was born without eyes and could not be sold. We are full, but of course, we squidged a foster home space for this beautiful boy.
With just days before he was due to be euthanized in the public shelter, we took this old boy out today. We met him last year and we knew we couldn't just leave him there. Every life matters.
We made the right decision to take all the animals out of the home where they were neglected and eating each other. The police so horrified they had to walk away a few times. Our team have just gone back for the last vanful. Thank you to those who donated to help us rescue all 40
We are praying for the Best Friends shelter in Ukraine. They were directly hit by a bomb this evening and with 1,000 animals and no one to put the fire out, the only solution was to release the animals. More innocent victims, as our hearts break again tonight.
-12c in the mountains, in an area with no civilisation, and our rescuer found this girl all alone. Most likely abandoned, no microchip, of course. She is now safe in our care.
Found in the rubbish, where her siblings did not survive, she has been baptised Ghinduta, which means Little Acorn. She is too weak to stand for now, but is safe in 24 hour vet care and on iv fluids. She truly has the will to survive, and we will help her to make it!
Today, little bear has a foster home! No bed or bath just yet, but she is happy with some towels, food and safety. She needs to be kept isolated until she is vaccinated (and fosters with spare rooms so very hard to find now!) She ate and then just crashed out and slept.
Rescued as a tiny pup with an axed off paw, today we gave Diana the best 1st birthday present - she was spayed. One of the gentlest dogs we gave ever met, she has our hearts. Diana.
Abandoned, he found shelter from the snow but old and sick he would never have survived. Tonight he is safe in foster care, not yet vet treated, but cleaned up, warm and fed. Because all lives matter.
She had been dragging herself along in the deep snow for weeks, unable to walk and alone in the world. Tonight she is safe and warm thanks finally to someone at the truck stop making contact with our rescuers. There is no sadder sight.
And for our team in Romania. The never ending work continues, as this girl is rescued from the dangers on the streets. Thank you all for your support of our work.
Another pup dumped in the snow is now laying motionless in blankets, heater on, as the vet tries to raise his body temperature. Hypothermia has set in, his body simply too weak. Never have we been more determined to keep fighting for those who have no voice of their own.
Another young victim of abandonment. So seriously ill and full of worms we didn't even want to post his rescue. Only now he has started to eat a little. Our miracle boy, on his way to recovery.
So alone, so totally heartbreaking, her spine and pelvis broken by beatings, her tail cut off and then dumped in Romania. Our newest treasure, meet Angel.
Norocel had been in the shelter for years, and we never thought he would leave. Until this week, when he arrived at his forever home in Scotland. Nine years of dreaming of a perfect Christmas has finally come true.
Rosy has survived her first round of blood transfusions, whilst she is doing incredibly well, she is still a very sick girl. Every day is a tiny step towards happiness for Rosy and all of us. Thank you for your support and kind wishes.
From life on a chain, he was dumped at the public shelter to die. Meet Eros, one of our Christmas miracles, tonight safe and warm in a foster home in Romania ❤️
He made it to the UK! Just look at the change in him, as he looks at his dad, with love and adoration. We are over the moon for Duggie, his life on a chain when we found him, a world away.
This abandoned pet dog is crying, he wanted to wait where his owner had cruelly dumped him 😢 and didn’t want to come with us. He is safe in our care as we had to take him to safety.
Oxana has been to visit Mozart at the vet today. He is recovering well from surgery and wants to try to walk 😞. He is still using a catheter for now and is on antibiotics. We are looking for a wheel cart for him, and for now, he is safe and loved in the vet clinic.
Meet our new boy Doogie. Rescued after he had been left in the rain, hit on the head, unable to move and wanted to bite us in fear and pain. Now safe in the vet clinic where we pray his paralysis is temporary, his blood tests have shown up babesiosis and he is now on treatment.
Mozart enjoying some fresh air. A cart has been ordered and us being made locally in Ukraine and we hope he will start his vaccines soon so we can bring him to the UK.
Thrown into a river, this girl is now safe. We continue to support Happy Dog Shelter in Ukraine and will donate food throughout a winter that has already arrived. The team working so hard against power cuts, sirens and bombs nearby, yet they stay with the dogs.
Another abandoned pet. An old, scared boy, in so much pain. Rescued today and already in the emergency vet with serious infections. We have named him Marco and he will never be alone again.
We rescued Holly in December, alone at the side of the road with her right eye swollen and clouded over. Instead of simply removing her eye, we wanted to try to save it. She has been on daily treatment, and she can now see out of her eye! Because every dog matters to us.
We were devastated to learn that Joseph's tumour is malignant and has spread to his bones. With treatment, he could live a good life for up to 2 years. So yesterday, we took him for his chemotherapy session at the vet and then back to his foster home, where he will now stay.
It is unbelievable that our rescuers find dogs like this in the streets and clearly in such pain. Does everyone else walk round wirh their eyes wide shut perhaps? Thankfully she is now safe in foster in Bucharest and will receive treatment immediately.
Rescued when a broken leg meant the owner was taking him for slaughter a year ago, we spent this afternoon here in Romania loving his joy at playtime. Ancuta, our Paws2Rescue vet student has 155 rescued horses here and it truly is paradise - visitors and support always welcome!
A huge thank you from all the stray dogs in Romania to their hero, our amazing patron
@rickygervais
. We are so honoured, proud and over the moon to be a recipient of Ricky’s incredible donation of almost £2 million to charities, from his Armageddon tour.
Doogie has started to use his legs! The paralysis thankfully hopefully was only temporary, and he is using his legs a little. What a brave boy. Evil will never triumph.
Our hearts broke when we found this pup. Too scared yet for us to touch him to check the injury, but so truly hungry. We wish no animal had to suffer hunger this way.
Just look at the poor dog sitting in the road. A total of zero cars slow down. Our Paws2Rescue vet scholars stopped though, and as one ran, one filmed. He is now safe. Nice one Romania!
Abandoned in a bag as soon as they were born, in our rescuers own village in Romania. Hand fed and they are now safe under a heat lamp at home. Thank you for supporting our work as we save lives... every single day.
This is what happens when people don't neuter. A mum and pups abandoned in the rain, shivering and cold, as temperatures start to drop. Of course we have taken them in: to leave them would be the death of the pups. It's a sad world.
Another night, and a helpless soul snuggled up on her own is now safe. Being a street pup can be the saddest and loneliest existence, and we couldn't just look and walk away.
Little Diana is recovering at the vet. Her leg had been cut off, and the vets may have to amputate as nerve ends are exposed. We have to wait until she is vaccinated first, due to health risks there, but she is safe, very happy and warm.
One week on and Boss is lifting his head again. He is having daily treatments for his skin and eating lots of good food. He is still in his own cage for quarrantine but he will be out very soon. The team in Ukraine have worked miracles!
He was chained with just over a metre. Sadly this is common with owned dogs and it is legal too. All we could do was to feed him... for now. Off to hatch a plan.
He was on today's kill list. Old, blind, and dumped here by his owner. Refusing to move, so scared. It has taken 3 days and nights of hard work and translating, but Scout is still alive, and the best part? We pick him up Monday for the journey to his new foster mummy in Romania.
In honour of tiny Pearl, we went back to the awful government shelter today and took this boy out in her memory. He will live the life denied to her, and her memory will live on through him: meet Peter.
Rescued in April with serious axe wounds, we took Ozzie in for emergency surgery. After problems due to horrid infections, finally he is safe in foster care. Thank you to the two people who helped towards our vet bill for him, always a daily struggle as we keep saving lives.
With over 90 dogs in her care, Raisa said no more. Until she found a red bag with 8 babies crying their hearts out... umbilical cords still fresh and only hours old. To turn away would mean they wouldn't survive - we have of course taken them in. Now bottle feeds every hour...
Found in a bag by the police today and taken to the police station, our rescuer was called to help the pups. Now safe at the shelter in Arad, never to be abandoned again. Thank you for your support as we help dogs in desperate need, every single day.
When we found Sonia, she was happy to enjoy the food. Her obvious broken leg, and her pain, immediately forgotten for a short time. Now safe in our care, tomorrow she will be at the vet for surgery on her broken leg - because we couldn't ignore her plight or leave her alone.
Today's rescue, whilst so many drove past ignoring her, our rescuers in Baia Mare drove 50km to pick her up. Too weak to even stand, she is in a horrific state, barely able to move. She is already in the vet clinic on fluids, and we pray she survives the night.
Just look how happy Mozart is! Someone in the UK donated this bed, which went on our lorry, his first ever soft bed! He has a new red lead and lots of yummy treats too. He is still in the vet in Kyiv in recovery for a while, after his prosthetics replaced his once cut off paws.
Abbey has arrived safely in France. Paralysed, she stood no chance of a happy life in Ukraine, and we had to help her. Every life matters to us, just look at her smile!
These breed dogs in Romania have been given up, and we have these 3 in our care now. Today's throw away society is partly to blame too and it is always the dogs who suffer. No matter what country in the world.
Bev never had any possessions in Romania. Adopted and adored in the UK, this is the sweetest video we have seen for a long time. Have a peaceful Sunday evening. ❤️
This boy was kept outside by his owner. Our rescuer fed him in the street for a few days, weighing up morals. And then she couldn't stand his pain any more and took him. Meet Buki, around 7 years old, another dog kept as a pet in a horrific condition.
We were horrified and sickened to hear of this young pup, who we rushed straight to the vet, who then showed us that his back legs were broken in so many places, it can only have been from being kicked so hard. He has an awful haematoma too. Markus, in our prayers tonight.
Rescued after she was hit by a car and now totally blinded, this sweet girl, now safe in our foster care. Because drivers in Romania don't seem to stop when they see a dog in the road.
Rescued from a school playground today, a pup in so much pain, she needed emergency surgery. If everyone neutered, there would be so much less pain in the world for these unwanted and scared pups.
