The Holy Month of #Ramadan teaches us many lessons: to treat with respect, to lead with empathy, to strengthen our humility, to learn from past mistakes & care for the most vulnerable. A special thought to those unable to celebrate because of wars & disasters #RamadanMubarak

On the sidelines of #UNGA I met with Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister @Lamamra_dz . We exchanged on African contexts - which make up to 70% of matters discussed at the Security Council and 44% of the @ICRC ’s budget.

War in cities leave lasting scars. Downtown #Benghazi was totally destroyed..its residents are traumatized & scattered across other cities “I cry everytime I meet old neighbors walking here, like me, and recalling the good old times” told me an old resident of Al-Sabri #Libya

Its outrageous to witness the widening gap between humanitarian needs and aid in #Africa . More guns, more lives lost, civilians are bearing the brunt. In #DRC some 7 million are displaced from their homes, 2.5 million of them in North Kivu alone. #EHF2024

Sexual violence is not only a disgusting crime but an affront to humanity. During #wars or when violence erupts, sexual violence is one of the many violations of domestic & international law #IHL We must all call for an end to sexual violence! #16Days

This ship will save lives. Fewer children will die now. It’s my deep hope that many other shipments follow & that the food reaches people suffering from armed conflict, the main driver of #foodinsecurity in #Africa . @ICRC_Africa @AU_HHS @ICRC_AfricUnion

Just a few days ago I saw this @WFP vessel get ready to sail for the Horn Of Africa as part of the Black Sea Grain Initiative. My thanks to all involved in securing the arrival of this ship to Djibouti, carrying food from Ukraine to help fight hunger.

. @ICRC estimates that between 60 & 80 mio people live under the exclusive control of non-State armed groups. To be effective, #COVID19 vaccines must reach all parts of societies, including persons living under the control of non-State armed groups.

Leaving #Nigeria after an intense week in #Borno State. It’s crucial not to forget all those affected by the #LakeChadCrisis . We should exert all efforts to bring life-saving aid & #LeaveNoOneBehind . A lot has been achieved yet 2018 will be as challenging as the previous years
