EAs are leaving the profession in droves and retiring early
Colleges are cancelling their EA programs because of low enrollment

Teachers are retiring early. Teachers are fleeing the profession well before retirement. Recent teacher grads are choosing not to enter the profession. Teacher colleges can't fill spaces. What does this tell people about the state of public education?

As we navigate the uncertain waters of bargaining, labour instability & funding cuts while heading back to the classroom we want to express our profound admiration for the resilience & dedication of our almost 4K EA & DECE members in PDSB🧵
Every day OPSEU/SEFPO education workers experience violence and classroom evacuations because there aren’t enough staff to provide supports for students with the most complex needs. Real education workers share their stories:

Last night, Education Workers in Local 2100 from Peel District School Board organized an urgent town hall to discuss bargaining and how they can build power to win big for students and workers! Our members are fired up and ready to fight for what they deserve!
The increase of violence in our schools affects both students & staff
EAs are the frontlines handling the majority of incidents
It's time to stop normalizing violence in our schools & create a safer environment for everyone

It is clear that not only is worker power growing in our workplaces throughout the province, but that workers are clearly saying YES to a government and the employers who continue to say NO!
We will return to the bargaining table this Thursday with the strong mandate!
The Ford Gov wants EdWorkers to do 4 more years at 1.25%/yr for workers making >40k or
2%/yr if they make <40k
We want the workers who care for our most vulnerable Ss paid fairly
EdWorkers with

That’s well below inflation for the past 10 yrs
