10:00 PM: Time for a shift change in Cuyahoga County. We are thankful for the hard work these snowplow drivers put in over the past 12 hours. Now they head home for some much-deserved rest and a fresh set of drivers head out to battle the bitter cold and high winds.
#ODOTwinter
This is why the "I didn't see a single plow out" complaints hurt us the most.
Our drivers do a fantastic job, but they can't stop the snow from falling.
If you were on I-271 at Cedar Rd at 6:40pm you were probably wondering where
@ODOT_Cleveland
plows were because the road looked "untouched." If you were there 10 minutes earlier you probably thought ODOT was doing a great job. That's how quickly things are changing tonight.
HUGE SHOUTOUT to our crews who worked day & night to prepare Cleveland for an amazing weekend!
@MarchMadnessWBB
,
@CleGuardians
, and solar eclipse highlighted the amazing things Cleveland has to offer, and our highway workers made sure visitors had a great experience on our roads!
Our plow blades alone weigh 2,500 pounds. Hitting one is going to go about like this. So, for your own safety, please, Move Over and Slow Down for flashing lights!
This plow strike on Sunday was the first of the year, and we've had 3 more since. Something needs to change.
ODOT Snowplow Fact: Our drivers work in 12-hour shifts and we have the same number of drivers out day or night when there is a snow storm. Over 65 trucks out in District 12 tonight. Don't Crowd the Plows!
#ODOTwinter
We can speculate on exactly what happened here, but the fact of the matter is that if you move over or slow down when you see flashing lights, then things like this won't happen. These are free lessons that other people are teaching you. Don't end up like this.
#MoveOverSlowDown
This has to stop! It's up to you to allow our roadside workers to get home safely.
Earlier today a crew out picking up litter was struck hard. They were lucky to be inside their vehicle.
Slow Down and Move Over!
The crews out working to keep roads safe deserve your attention.
Snow is expected to continue for the next several hours. Combine that with high winds and it can make any road look untouched. We still have - and will continue to have - 80 snowplows operating around the clock in Cuyahoga, Lake & Geauga counties until the snow ends.
#ODOTwinter
Last night a pothole patching crew was working on I-90 in Lake County when out of no where a car struck the impact attenuator that was protecting the workers just feet in front it. We are doing our best to keep up with potholes this season. Please MOVE OVER or SLOW DOWN!!
With construction you may see lanes closed ahead. Use the zipper merge at these points to benefit all drivers.
Zipper merges can ease congestion & shorten backups by 40%, delaying congestion by 14 minutes & cutting the line of cars by over 1/3 mile!
Take turns at the merge!
Driving distracted can have serious consequences! First plow strike of 2024 happened yesterday and didn't even take a full week. One of our drivers pulled over for less than a minute before this took place.
The road deserves your full attention!
Meet Joe Lucas and Maurice Twymon! Two of approximately 3,300 men and women who operate plow trucks at ODOT.
Our plow drivers work hard to help keep you safe during the winter.
Thanks to Joe, Maurice, and all of our great drivers for their efforts this winter!
#WorkerWednesday
The final steel beam was put into place today on the new I-480 Valley View Bridge! A big thank you to members of Iron Workers Local 17, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18, Walsh Construction Company, Stupp Bridge, & ODOT engineers.
If you parked outside overnight, make time this morning to clean ALL the snow off your vehicle before you hit the road. See and be seen by clearing snow from all windows and lights and from the roof of your car, so it doesnโt blow off on the guy behind you.
#ohwx
Take a quick look from the front of our plow truck this morning throughout District 12. We have over 70 trucks on the road. Give Trucks plenty of room to work, watch for variable conditions with the blowing snow, and slow down!
#ODOTwinter
MIDNIGHT: Shift changes in Geauga and Lake counties are now taking place. It's been a long 12-hour shift for these snowplow drivers, and we are so thankful for our employee's hard work and dedication. Remember when you see them, give them plenty of room to work.
#dontcrowdtheplow
We had a close call last week, and are so thankful no one was hurt. These near misses should not happen. We need your help to ensure everyone can get home safely.
Please, move over and slow down for all vehicles with flashing lights!
#MoveOverMonday
While you're celebrating with family and friends, Santa's little helpers, a.k.a. ODOT plow drivers, will be monitoring roads for icy conditions. Give them plenty of room to work!
#ThankAPlowDriver
๐ง The I-480 Valley View Bridge project has made great progress in 2020 and we are proud to share this video update with you! Let us know if you have any questions about the work. ๐ง
Plan to leave early tomorrow morning! 300 trucks ready to go in NE Ohio and we have 228,000 tons of salt on hand. Give plow trucks room to work and slow down!
Winter Storm Warnings & Winter Weather Advisories are in effect. Snow is on the way tonight into Friday with considerable impacts to the Friday AM commute likely. Snow transitions to lake effect Friday night and lingers through Saturday night in the snowbelt.

ODOT Snowplow Fact: We only plow interstates as well as U.S. Routes and SR outside of municipalities. Local roads are the responsibility of the city or county. For the majority of Cuyahoga Cty, we only plow interstates. We have over 60 trucks on the roads this morning.
Video update from our Cleveland Garage. Over 60 trucks on the roads this morning in District 12. Please give our plow trucks room to work and check OHGO for road condition updates.
In just 35 seconds, we saw multiple cars refusing to slow down. Imagine how many fly by during an 8-hour shift! Please Move Over and Slow Down when passing vehicles with flashing lights.
Help to save someone's life by Moving Over and Slowing Down.
#MoveOverMonday
Here is a live look at I-271 and Cedar Rd. in Cuyahoga Co. You can't see much! ๐ณ If you plan to hit the roads soon be sure to check OHGO for a live look at road conditions. We've have 77 snowplows working around the clock in Cuyahoga, Lake & Geauga counties.
#ODOTwinter
Crews are out to help keep roads in good condition during this winter weather. Remember to stay in a plow driver's line of vision and never pass on the right.
#ODOTwinter
In a truly collaborative effort to calm traffic on Franklin Blvd., ODOT installed 7 mini roundabouts to encourage lower speeds. Construction was completed in 2023.
These roundabouts are a result of joint efforts from local residents,
@CityofCleveland
, and
@NOACA_MPO
.
#Teamwork
Thank you to all the motorists who Move Over or Slow Down anytime you see flashing lights. Thank you for helping us go home to our families at the end of a shift.
#MoveOverMonday
If you're tired of seeing these posts, imagine how tired our crews are having to witness them in real time.
Last night, one of our patching crews was struck with one person sent to the hospital.
This has to stop! 77th time this year ODOT has been struck.
#MoveOverSlowDown
Pretreating roads in rain is ineffective because deicers are quickly washed away. Crews reported at 10 a.m. to monitor road surface temperatures. Salting begins as soon as temperatures reach near-freezing.
This afternoon the westbound I-480/Valley View Bridge express lanes opened. Remember these tips for a successful morning commute. Left two lanes to stay on I-480 ONLY and the right three lanes to access I-77 or I-480. Slow down and check OHGO for real time traffic updates.
Things are starting to clear up for evening commutes, but please continue to take it slow. With winds and drifting snow, conditions are always changing. Be careful out there, and give plows plenty of room.
Social Media Mistake! Not letting other drivers merge only creates more congestion! Traffic actually flows better when using both lanes up to the merge point! Don't be like this person. Use both lanes and take turns merging. You will be helping yourself and others!
We went out today to get some footage of our crews doing the great work they do when a semi flew by at full speed in the lane directly next to us, which literally knocked the hat off one of our crew.
Move Over and Slow Down.
This was the 19th time a plow truck was struck this winter statewide. Please use caution when driving around plow trucks! Thankfully this plow truck is back on the road! Slow down and use caution on the roads today!
Here is that plow off the right side of I-480 east at State Road. Didn't look like much damage but that plow is shutdown until OSP completes their on scene work. EB lanes will suffer because of it...
Our wet reflective striping project began last week on I-480. Here's a close-up look. These markings will improve visibility during rainy and wet conditions making it easier for motorists to see the road! This project covers various areas on I-480, I-271, and I-90.
7:50 a.m. update, Over 65 plow trucks remain on the roads. Snow covered roads to tire tracks. Slow down, it will take longer to reach your destination, and give plow trucks room to work.
#ODOTwinter
The snow is quickly approaching, so our snowplow operators are loading up on salt before they hit the road. Remember to give our plows room to work if you will be travelling today.
#DontCrowdThePlow
#ODOTWinter
We heard you! Zipper merges can be confusing if you aren't familiar with them. This is why we have installed signs to help motorists understand how to approach these merges.
It saves time and lowers congestion.
These new signs can be found at the I-480 WB to SR 176 NB merge
Traffic Alert: Many main roads into downtown Cleveland have been closed at the request of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, including I-90 westbound at I-271, and SR 2 westbound in Willowick & at the Innerbelt curve. Please use caution when approaching the area and stay safe.
When we say, "Drive per road conditions," this is what we are trying to avoid. Please leave early and slow down!
Get to your destination safely by adjusting your driving based on the current condition of the roadway.
I was at about 45mph on 77 south when this SUV entered from Woodland at 75mph? Hit the slush, never braked and hit both walls. I did not stop but called 911. Anyone driving like that at 2am is up to no good and I'm not getting hit too. No one in the car when CFD/EMS arrived.
Kudos to the majority of motorists who are slowing down during this slushy transition with minimal accidents. ๐๐ป Crews continue to work through traffic to clear the accumulation. ๐๐๐
7 a.m. update over 70 trucks continue to battle the snow. Stay home if you do not need to be on the roads, give plow trucks plenty of room to work, and check for real time road condition updates.
#ODOTwinter
Thank you to all those lending a hand in this important partnering cleanup effort for our friends and neighbors in Buffalo, including multiple drivers from Geauga County!
We are continuing to battle the blowing and drifting snow โ๏ธโ๏ธ. Conditions are variable and can change mile to mile and minute to minute. Slow down and give our over 70 plow trucks room to work.
#ODOTwinter
Do you remember to slow down and move over for roadside workers? Not only is it the safest option, it's the law! These crews were working along I-71 near Bagley Rd. today.
#MoveOverMonday
Our maintenance crews picked up 28 bags of litter last Friday, including this area pictured under I-90.
It takes a lot of work to get things looking this clean. Help us keep areas like this clean by properly disposing your trash. ๐ฎ๐ฎ
#ODOTworks
Zipper merges are an effective way to reduce traffic delays.
โขMany drivers slow and merge too quickly.
โขDrivers are encouraged to use both lanes up until the lane closure.
โขTake turns letting people in at merge point.
Changing winds and snowfall will be difficult to keep the roads in perfect condition, and may make it appear like roads have been untouched even seconds after a plow goes by, but we will be out fighting the weather throughout the weekend to ensure the best conditions possible.
Today's rain will transition to snow this evening, and no matter how much snow hits northeast Ohio, we are ready to go! Remember you can check road conditions on the OHGO app or at before you hit the road.
Crews continue to battle the lake effect snow in District 12 this afternoon. Over 70 trucks are on the roads. Check out these pictures from trucks on I-77, I-90 , and I-71. Don't Crowd the Plows!
#ODOTwinter
This
#EarthDay
, we are reminding you that ODOT picked up nearly 4 million bags of litter in the past decade.
That's enough trash to build a 700-foot tower in downtown Cleveland.
Be part of the solution, not the pollution.
#ODOTworks
Based on an in-house suggestion, D12 crews have been adding reflective tape to guardrail ends and crash attenuators that were grey previously. This is a simple, low-cost change that helps increase visibility to improve safety and decrease repair costs.
#ODOTworks
ODOT Mechanics Manuel and Jim work hard every day to keep plow trucks on the roads during the winter months. Let's help them out by giving plow trucks plenty of room to work on the highways.
#WorkerWendesday
๐จ Itโs the calm before the storm in NEO. ๐จ Our plow trucks will be looked over closely by drivers and mechanics ahead of this weekends winter weather event. While our drivers rotate every 12 hours, the trucks donโt. Itโs important we keep them in tip top shape.
#ODOTWinter
Working together helps to clear the road more quickly. โ๏ธWe continue to battle the blowing and drifting snow with over 65 trucks out this afternoon. Stay Home if you do not have to be out and give our plow trucks plenty of room to work.
#ODOTwinter
@Jenny_shoe1762
Even with 80 trucks out, we canโt keep up with a squall thatโs dumping 2 inches per hour. Weโve been fully staffed 24 hrs. a day for more than a week and are doing our best.
The final gantry crane on the I-480 Valley View Bridge is being dismantled. The 3 crane system was instrumental in constructing the new bridge, which will begin carrying eastbound traffic this fall!
๐Goodbye cranes๐
We have enjoyed watching you these past several months.
It's pothole season. Our crews have been out patching as many potholes as possible day and night. If you see us out working, please Move Over and Slow Down to give us room to make these needed repairs.
#ODOTworks
#GeaugaCountyOH
snowplows are out in full force! Pictured here is Dawn who takes care of SR 528. You can see the snow is coming down hard, but sheโs doing her best to keep up.
#ODOTwinter
There isn't much that separates drivers from our maintenance crews. Sometimes a few cones and a couple inches are all that stands between you and them.
Please, for their safety, and yours, Move Over and Slow Down when you see flashing lights.
#MoveOverMonday
We are working 12 hr shifts during this storm. Slow down, give plow trucks plenty of room to work, and check OHGO for live traffic cameras and road condition updates.
The safety of roadside workers depends on motorists following the law by moving over and slowing down when passing vehicles with flashing lights. There is not much that separates our crews from the road, making your caution in work zones necessary.

Lake Erie continues to freeze! Which would you rather have?
๐จ๏ธ Warmer temps but the chance for lake effect snow OR
โธ๏ธ Cold enough temps to freeze the lake, but no more lake effect squalls!
More than 70 snowplows operating in District 12 as we head into the morning commute and more snow is expected! These are views from trucks working in the primary snowbelt. Expect passable, but not perfect roads and remember to give our plows plenty of room to work.

8:00AM: Light snow is moving through some parts of northeast Ohio. If you plan to travel today, give yourself extra time, go slow and check . Nearly 300 snowplows are working around the clock to keep the roads safe and passable this Christmas Eve.
#OHwx
#GeaugaCounty
&
#LakeCountyOH
All routes are partially snow covered, but passable. Both counties received an average of 8" overnight & light snow persists. Blowing & drifting has been the main problem, which is one of the reasons we have partially snow covered roads.

While you are ๐ด, these ODOT highway workers are working to keep our area highways safe! Tonight they made a pit stop at the

You might be wondering where the snow is if you're looking at our OHGO traffic cameras. ๐ We found some at I-71 at US 30 in Richland County and by the looks of the radar, it's headed our way. If you plan to head out this AM be sure to check .
ODOT, and the entire city of Cleveland, shined blue last night to honor healthcare professionals and essential workers on the front lines fighting to keep us safe and healthy.

Weather wins ๐ฅ - The full I-77 closure is canceled for this weekend.
โ ๏ธ Only one I-77 SB detour at I-490 will take place overnight Friday into Saturday. Details here:
Our Cleveland night crew was out last night clearing roads of debris and litter to keep drivers safe. Clean and clear roads means truck drivers delivering vital supplies, law enforcement, first responders, and health care staff are all able to work to save lives.
#ODOTworks
We all know a little litter is a big problem. So far this year, by day or night, ODOT has picked up over 400,000 bags of litter (and counting) on our roads statewide. You can help by disposing of litter properly!
#WorkerWednesday
Over 125 trucks remain on the roads in NE Ohio this morning. Please use caution while driving in the snow belt as conditions are still variable as seen by the pictures from our trucks. Slow down and give plow trucks room to work!
#ODOTwinter
ODOT plows have been struck 37 times this winter. Please remember these 3 tips.
1. Always obey traffic signs & laws.
2. Give our plows plenty of room to work (don't try to race around them).
3. ODOT snow plows can weigh over 24 tons, they are not something you want to hit.
The purpose of Ohio's Move Over law is to protect everyone who works on our roads and everyone who travels on them.โ How much do you know about the law?
