So, with yesterday's surprise reminder of the LUV qualified suppliers, there might be some new people to my page who are a bit out of the loop.
So, in light of recent events, consider this my official LUV rundown! (while I can still exploit LUV for content)
For reference, given tonight's news, the RCAF of the 2030s will have, assuming no one else makes additional orders:
• The world's third largest fleet of F-35s
• The world's third largest fleet of A330 MRTT
• The world's second largest fleet of P-8s
Because I talked about it yesterday...
The Global Logistics, Aviation, and Medical Support Platform (G-LAM) is an Arctic capable support ship proposed by Davie for the Royal Canadian Navy.
the G-LAM is purpose designed to support joint-operations by providing:
Assuming that the P-8 Pans out and a contract is signed, the RCAF will have:
• The world's fourth/fifth largest fleet of F-35s
• The world's third largest fleet of A330 MRTT
• The world's second largest fleet of P-8s, though it could bump down to third.
Not bad, I'd say.
Official. Canada purchasing up to 16P-8A Poseidon Multi Mission Aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force, with an option for 2 more to the tune of 10.4 billion CAD
It's amazing what a year it's been for new equipment:
• 88 F-35
• 9 CC-330
• 14+2 P-8
• 11 MQ-9B
• Zetros for LVM
• SPIKE
• RBS-70NG
• Preferred bidder for FAcT
Say what you want, but the last year has been wild.
While tomorrow's Defense Policy Update is exciting news, I still think it is best to temper expectations, though I try to be optimistic.
Anyways! What kind of things are people hoping to see out of it?
The Mercedes Zetros is set to become the new logistics backbone of the Canadian Army.
These will replace the Heavy Engineer Support Vehicle (HESV), Heavy Logistics Vehicle Wheeled (HLVW), and Light Support Vehicle Wheeled (LSVW) in with one common platform.
Because I haven't done one of these in a while and have a good ten minutes of nothing time to do something quick.
The LUV Project is a multi-tiered project that aims to replace the current fleets of G-Wagons and Milverado in army service.
Last Senator post, I promise. I've been talking way too much about it.
ANYWAYS, the super silly guide to the various senators, so hopefully, we stop having so much confusion.
Please, Roshel, don't yell at me.
Shoutout to the always amazing
@ColbyBadhwar
for this awesome interview! Lots of stuff being reaffirmed from
@CDRmagazine
previous interview, along with lots of interesting new bits of info
Seems like big things are on the horizon!
🇨🇦🇺🇦 There are many examples of lacklustre support to Ukraine, but Canada's
@RoshelDefence
isn't one of them. They have delivered 1000 armoured vehicles to Ukraine, and counting.
This is a thread of highlights from my exclusive interview with Roshel's CEO, Roman Shimonov.

The RCNs OPV project is a recently mentioned project that aims to replace the Kingston Class MCDV. The project is currently in the early stages of development.
Because I've been talking about them today, and because videos of them are still a bit hard to come by, some SENRAP footage along with a very pretty Senator APC. I still await confirmation of the SENUP in Ukrainian service.
The Program Icebreaker Project aims to replace the CCGs current fleet of Medium and Heavy Icebreakers. A total of six will be built by Davies.
A contract was rewarded in March 2024 for initial work related to the construction
The Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP) is an RCN project that aims to replace the Victoria Class Submarines. The project aims to acquire up to 12 conventional submarines starting in the 2030s
It is currently in the early stages of development.
We talk a lot about Roshel, but other armored vehicle makers across Canada are working hard to supply Ukraine with what it needs.
Case in point, a Terradyne Gurkha MPV currently used as a medevac vehicle. Twelve of these were procured last year.
On April 8, 2024, MND Blair, will release Canada’s Defence Policy Update.
Technical Briefing: at 9:00 a.m. EDT, via Zoom.
Press Conference: at 11:30 a.m. EDT, 8 Wing Trenton
For those interested, Roshel will be at CANSEC on May 29-30 with both the SENUP and what seems to be a new Senator variant 👀
The naming and timing got me 👀👀👀
The LTV project is an Urgent Operational Requirement that aims to acquire ~108 light, tactical vehicles to equip the brigade in Latvia.
The RFP closed last week with, with a winner expected to be announced within the next week or two.
The Long Range Precision Fires (LRPF) project aims to explore options for Long-Range Precision Fires (LRPF) and Loitering Munitions (LM) for the CAF
The project dropped its RFI in March. Similarly, there is also mention of a potential LM UOR.
🇨🇦🇺🇦 Canadian armoured vehicle manufacturer Roshel is investing $65 million CAD in a new HQ & production facility in Brampton, ON.
The 140,000 square-foot facility will also house the company's R&D division.
Over 1000 Senator armoured Infantry Mobility Vehicles have been
This is why I argue that the useful life of electric warfare-based Counter-UAS systems is already beginning to end. Automated guidance will simply take over even if EW can break the control link.
We're going to need a huge investment in kinetic & directed energy C-UAS weapons.
Updated list of announcements from December 2022, just off the top. Please let me know if I missed anything:
• 88 F-35
• 9 A330 MRTT
• 14 + 2 P-8
• 11 MQ-9B
• Cormorant Upgrade + 3 new airframes
• Griffin Support Contract
• Zetros for LVM
• SPIKE
• RBS-70NG
New Hamilton mayor
@AndreaHorwath
has previously said that she will push to expedite the implementation of the long-delayed BLAST Network. It was supposed to be the backbone of Hamilton's future transit system yet now? The project feels dead outside the LRT.
A tale of two 🇨🇦 Prime Ministers
Harper: 65 F-35 for $9B delivered 2016
Trudeau: 88 F-35 for $74B delivered 2026
Harper: $138.5M each
Trudeau: $840.9M each
Liberals = 10 years late at 6X the price

Since I've been speaking on a lot of underdiscussed projects, I thought it would be a great time to bring up the Domestic Arctic Monility Enchanchment project, a really cool project that no one ever talks about
DAME will procure 130 to 170 vehicles to replace the BV206 fleet.
The Domestic Arctic Mobility Enchanchment (DAME) project aims to acquire a replacement to the BV206 fleet for Arctic operations.
The project currently aims to acquire between 130 to 170 vehicles in four separate configurations.
Canada in talks with six countries over future submarine needs. Those countries are:
• Spain
• Germany
• France
• Japan
• Korea
• Sweden
The current hope is for twelve submarines to replace the current four Victoria subs.
Abandonment regret: Realizing its going to cost billions to replace infrastructure that we foolishly let go.
TAO is calling for a Canada-wide policy of railbanking a protect out-of-service corridors for future use as communities and the economy grow.
The Canadian Army has not changed its official logo. We remain proud of our official emblem.
The icon launched today is a supplementary design only that will be used in the bottom left corner of certain communications products and in animations for videos.
Because I talked about it, while Phase I of the CUAS UOR has come and gone, Phase II is still in the works.
Phase II of the CUAS UOR aims to acquire Integrated CUAS Vehicle (ICV) for the Brigade in Latvia. The project will acquire ~10 ICV
The RFP closed on May 6th.
The Next-Generation Fighting Vehicle (NGFV) is a CAF project that aims to procure between 55 and 75 armored vehicles to replace the services fleet of HMMWV.
Three vehicles have qualified:
• Eagle V
• Hawkei
• JLTV
A formal RFP was scheduled for 2023 but was delayed.
I can't wait for the defense review to be released because it's either gonna be pretty mundane and expected, or it's gonna be wild. Either way, I will be here for the chaos.

So, I may be wrong here, but today's news means that Roshel is the first competitor to qualify for the LUV Project that we know of. It's a good sign that the project is moving along towards its next goal of an RFP release in 2025.
Of course, the competition is heavy here.
I’m proud to sponsor a new parliamentary petition initiated by
