So GitHub copilot is gonna be paid
Is it worth 10$ a month for the amount of time it saves me? Definitely
Definitely not paying for it tho, it's using open source code and the code i write to feed it's AI without giving any of this money back to the projects it uses
I finished my book ๐๐
Sometimes it feels like you need a literal map to navigate the React ecosystem! In this book, I share all the stuff I learned over the years and my opinions about pretty much everything
"The Opinionated Guide to React"

A break from complaining to some amazing gay news ๐
Yesterday I married the most amazing woman I have ever met. Yesterday I became the luckiest woman in the world โฅ๏ธ
After all the running and travelling love won and we are free ๐
Everytime someone in the EU shares their salaries as a programmer someone always compares it to US salaries.
Please stop. It's not even the same system
It assumed we
1:all wanna move there
2: all can move there
I don't wanna make 250k while most people work three jobs
I made a dumb thing:
We started making websites because it was fun because we wanted to make dumb shit and now everything is so serious and sometimes I feel like we need to go back ๐ฆ
BRING GEOCITIES BACK! ๐

I made a tool that allows you to create simple and "beautiful" static sites based on your project Readme file:
๐Fiddly ๐
๐ No config
๐ฉโ๐ป Code Highlighting
๐ณ๏ธโ๐ Pretty Pages && Customisable
๐ณ๐ฑ CodeSandbox Support

Two things wrong here:
First bad documentation is actually not better than nothing
Second:
Wtf organizers? This is why people have a code of conduct. You don't seem to have one and you don't have anyone to tell you what a terrible joke this is.
I know a lot of us want to continue with our life but there is still a war in ukraine, people are still dying, please don't stop donating and helping in any way ๐บ๐ฆ
I went to the Poland/Ukraine border last week with a car of supplies

Someone: Hey! You are a woman! Can you do a talk about being a woman in tech?
Me: Sure! I have boobies and I write code. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
You know what I think is dumbest thing ever? People who tell you you shouldn't compare your salary with your peers and that you should know how much you are worth. I don't know how much I'm worth, most people don't

Life Updates: Today is my last day at YLD
I am super excited to say that Monday I will start as a full time developer at
@codesandbox
and I promise to TRY to not break it ๐ค
I hope to make this app an even more welcoming place to anyone no matter their skill level ๐

I have been quiet for the last couple of weeks because I decided to put all my answers to all the "it depends" questions about React in a small book.
It's about 30% but it's been proofread about 300 times so I think it's ready to be shared. ๐
I have three news, one good two bad.
Bad is I won't be at
@react_india
because of the other bad one, my fiancรฉe is having visa issues within the schengen zone so we are politically asylum ourselves until the wedding in October.
Good one: I am getting married!
Let's talk about GitHub graphs and how much bullshit they are
Look at mine, that shit looks impressive ah?
It's bullshit, I work on an open source company, this is my job!
I wanna give back, im okay with that
My mom had cancer on minimum wage back in Portugal and we didn't pay a fucking cent
Some of us don't want that much capitalism.

After spending two years as a contractor and hating dearly all the complications and lack of rights, I have decided to join

Oh no, safari is gonna be prettier and people are gonna use it more ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
Did apple actually add more support and fix bugs or they did they just put some CSS on it?
Life news ahead:
Thursday was my last day at CodeSandbox, it was probably the hardest decision of my career.
I was incredibly lucky to work with amazing people and in a great product, but I need to take some time for myself.
For the next 3 months I'll be chilling at home ๐
โจ Styled Components tip:
You can get the props at the top of the component so you don't have to do it in every fucking property that needs them, avoiding all the copy pasting.
Much clean, very opinionated
The talk list website is "ready": ๐๐๐๐
โก๏ธAll Talks are curated
โก๏ธForm to add talks
โก๏ธYou can favorite talks
โก๏ธCinema Mode
โก๏ธ.party domain
โก๏ธMark talks as watched so you never see them again

I love tailwind but above all i don't understand why you would need to write an in-depth article explaining why a tool in the ecosystem sucks
I dislike plenty of tools but tbh why would I write a 1000 line article explaining that?
To watch the maintainer cry?
I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't live in a more socialist society.
I literally wouldn't be a programmer because I could not afford a laptop or university
Opinion: I really hate the new "login with a magic link" thing
It's not easier than passwords because I have a password manager and definitely slower than social login
Also I would like to avoid opening my email, k thx
People thinking I'm saying GitHub is the demon wow
I'm just sick of gigantic corporations making money of open source projects and this is a blatant use of that
Most companies are worse, doesn't mean this is fair.
What were some conference talks that were just incredible and inspired you to become a better human/programmer or showed you awesome shit? I'm creating a list of these โ๏ธ
.
@adamwathan
i was getting a covid test in Germany and this is their homepage for signing up
It's literally a copy and paste of of tailwind UI
Not even the logo was changed ๐
If there is one thing I learned at CodeSandbox is to do map, filter, reduce and just all around do unholy things to arrays and objects.
I have been thinking that this a very useful skill, would something like this make a good series of videos?
I made a thing ๐ฆ
An electron app that turns SVG to JSX, you can upload files or copy over SVG code and it will give you JSX code โจmagicโจ

Shitty interview stories
In one of my old companies we had a guy say this in an interview:
In cave times men would go hunt and women would do everything around the house that's why they can multitask but they also can't focus that's why they are not good programmers
๐
I'm gonna start working on a website to help newcomers and designers understand some of the fancy words we use in dev world and I could really use your help:
Anything you can remember pls put here, pls and thank you ๐
Continuing with my blender and 3D endeavours yesterday I decided to try and make a NES ๐ฎ
Also had to work with web workers today and that did not have a pretty ending
Four years ago I was a broken human that couldn't leave the house because she was scared and helpless
Today I live in Berlin, travel the world and have amazing friends
Hey, you, stop for a moment and think about where you wanted to be 4 years ago and where you're now. Give yourself credit for how far you've come and pat yourself on the back for everything you've achieved along the way.
Now go on with your day & shine even brighter. โจ
Since I wrote the book using gatsby and then generating the PDF and Epub with node I decided to make that code open source so anyone can write and generate this with ease ๐

I guess it's that time of the year for some life news.
On September 1st I am starting a new job as a founding engineer with three other kickass women at

GH:
I used typescript in a react application for about a year and a half.
I'm now working on an app that uses prop types and a fuckton of tests and I have honestly never been happier
@Swizec
I started making double in Germany and have savings now, is there a German dream?
No there is no fucking German dream, I was a privileged person with a EU passport that could move anywhere. It's not brave when you already make more than the average salary in the country
๐
After a hard week, I tried to imagine a place that would bring me peace.
The water is kinda weird but honestly? Learning to just let it go

From my perspective there are a couple of things to understand
I am the child of working class parents
My father is disabled and my mom had the mentioned medical issues.
My first laptop was 150โฌ because I was low income and it was a portuguese initiative to give kids laptops
Analogy of the day:
I feel like GraphQL is the tech equivalent of noise-canceling headphones.
Before u had them u didn't understand why everyone used them, you thought they were over-engineering and after starting using them you cant go back and don't how you lived any other way
We have very exciting news at
@codesandbox

You can now all stop wondering how we all get paid and best of all you can even work with us to make the web easier for everyone and to build amazing things ๐
