Here’s the new promo airing on
@CBSSacramento
. I want to give the promotions team a shout out for a job well done, applying my background skill set to the role.
UPDATE: Half of Sacramento county in the dark. Nearly 400,000 customers are in the dark in Sacramento, Yolo and San Joaquin Counties alone. We are almost through the worst, hang in there.
@CBSSacramento
BREAKING:
#ParkFire
continues to explode in size, now at 120, 000 acres. It's by far the largest wildfire in the state of California so far this year.
Shout out to my friends at
@CIRA_CSU
for putting the satellite imagery together showing its explosive growth.
@CBSSacramento
NEW VIDEO of the total destruction observed in Panama City, FL after Hurricane Michael made landfall just hours ago.
@FLGovScott
just said the state is transitioning over to a search and rescue operation along the panhandle.
Is it the new trend to shut your window on a flight?
Passenger behind me shut the one we are “sharing” but I’m playing nice. I still have my window.
I find myself to be the few to keep it open nowadays. The country is beautiful, lots to look at from above!
Thoughts?
I’m excited to announce I will be joining the team at CBS Sacramento as Chief Meteorologist.
I can’t thank my current chief, Mike Clay and the team at Bay News 9 enough for their professionalism and friendship. I’m very grateful for it.
Today is my last day with BN9.
How romantic is this!? Long distance relationships are not easy but the boyfriend made this day even brighter when I had this arrangement waiting for me at the office.
He also had a huge arrangement of balloons with a note and a dessert delivered to my door this morning. 🥰
The last real measurable snow in Sacramento took place in Feb 1976. Below is a comparison of the upper air pattern from Feb 1976 and Thur-Fri.
If snow reaches the Valley floor, this is the type of pattern to make it happen BUT conditions have to time perfectly!
12:40: Hang in there everyone, we’re almost through the worst of it. Winds will start to subside in an hour, still windy but damaging winds will taper in an hour or so.
Updated drought monitor shows more progress on the
#CAdrought
. Severe drought is down by nearly 60% statewide. Extreme or Exceptional drought conditions went from 41% to 0% statewide.
@CBSSacramento
New satellite lapse of the
#ParkFire
exploding to 240,000 acres. Notice the pyrocumulus & pyrocumulonimbus plumes billow over it.
Pyrocumulonimbus are often associated with firenadoes. These form over very intense fires.

So nice to have mom drop in for a visit. She flew down from Boston and I felt like a kid again because she cooked all my favorite meals and placed them in a freezer for later. On top of that, it was in the mid 80s today! 😍
I’m excited to announce that I will be joining the AMS Station Scientist Committee.
@AMS_SSC
Recently, I have taken a bigger role in educating others on science, especially through “Project Weather School” and our recent “Weather Explained” series.

Lots of videos and calls pouring into our newsroom. This looks like it's moving way to slow to be a meteor, etc. Looks like rockets (Space X maybe?) with a fiery combustible trail.
Our newsroom is working on finding the source of it.
Winds will ramp up quickly tonight with strong to damaging wind gusts overnight. Just hunker down tonight and let it pass. Power outages are expected.
@CBSSacramento
This could have been very bad for Florida, matter of miles would have made a big difference. Yeah there’s been some strong gusts, high water, outages and some damage along the coast BUT given the situation, I think Florida is making out just fine.
#Dorian
⚠️ 1:10am: Severe thunderstorms/ squalls moving through can produce gusts to 70 mph. Stay away from windows. Damaging winds continue until these bands clear out.
@CBSSacramento
Fujiwhara Effect seen on satellite AGAIN! So cool. You can see the two lows rotate around each other. The left low is the original storm that is decaying while the low to the east becomes the "parent storm".

CAREER UPDATE: I am pleased to announce that I will be joining a talented team of meteorologists over at
@BN9
in St. Petersburg, FL. It’s time to swap out the mountains with the ocean.
My last broadcast on WeatherNation will be Saturday, June 1.

visible on the Bald Mtn camera as it jumped the American River. Evacuations have been issued. The other view is the thick smoke smothering Lake Tahoe right now. Photos: U.S. Fire Service
Who else hasn’t downloaded tik tok? Am I getting to old for some of this social media already??? I only use FB, Insta and the Tweeter.

Made a pit stop at White Sands National Park. The “sand” you see is the same material used to create Sheetrock. So cool! It’s located near Las Cruces, NM.
Amazing satellite timelapse showing the evolution of the
#ParkFire
over the last few days. Watch how fire behavior changes with unstable atmosphere to stable atmosphere.
The burn scar left behind is impressive. Thanks
@weatherdak
and
@CIRA_CSU
for your work on these sat loops!

outage affecting operations globally, including our newscast tonight on
@CBSSacramento
Shout out to our team coming up with a plan MINUTES before air. Anchors had no scripts and only had the most basic essentials to make air.
Great work team!
Amazing progress on the CA drought. In November, 41% of the state was experience extreme or exceptional drought conditions. Today, that number is less than 1%.
@CBSSacramento
Long range forecast are hinting at cooler than average conditions for much of the Southeast going into the first week of October. It's possible that temperatures may be running below average for Tampa Bay too.
UPDATE: Downtown Sacramento placed 1 degree shy off the all-time record high. This is the 4th time Downtown Sacramento observed 113 degrees since records began in 1877. We will challenge the all-time record once again tomorrow.
@CBSSacramento
BREAKING: Cal Iso has declared an Emergency Alert 3, triggering rolling blackouts. We are LIVE on
@CBSSacramento
with updates now. Downtown Sac just hit 116 degrees, setting a new all-time record.
The eye of Hurricane
#Idalia
is showing up well on radar. It's located about 130 miles west of Tampa. The storm has a healthy core and continues to intensify. Hurricane hunters also recorded additional pressure drops since the last advisory-- on its way to major hurricane.
Yes, snow could mix with rain for a period of time early Thursday morning BUT don't start thinking we're going to wake up making snow angels in Sacramento!
You don't have to go far though, minor accumulations possible as low as 500 ft, significant snow above 1,000 ft.
Flew back home to Massachusetts to surprise my best friend from high school before he deploys overseas with the US Military. His family threw him a surprise going away party. I want to thank all service members for their contribution to protect our country.

This truck intercepted a tornado in Volusia County yesterday. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. A tornado survey is underway right now to determine its strength.
Oh hi there!! 🐊
This gator was strolling along Gandy Blvd by the WaWa! It probably came from the canal around the corner.
It is Florida after all.
