Front side moves in search of higher bat speeds is a great way to not hit better in game. Bat speed isn’t bad, but how your training yourself to generate it often leads to more miss.

So important to understand what makes you, you. Bonds thought catch deep, turner out front. Trout feels on top, others level, others straight up. Some feel slow to fast, others 70%, and some all or nothing.
Just because swing patterns are similar doesn’t mean thoughts are!

Timing is hitting. Great swing plane creates timing forgiveness. Solid sequence allows athletic adjustments. Mentality of a giant breeds competitive at bats.
Be on time. Be on plane. Be athletic. Be mentally tough!

Having an elite swing ; a swing that arrives on plane and on time more often then average hitters. Is absolutely vital to be great. But...
Having an elite mind is far more important. Having the comprehension and focus to constantly be learning and adjusting and then trusting...
The amount of times a hitter thinks they are too early but are actually late making move and just panic ripping hands to compensate leading to weak out front contact has to be 90/100.
Watch for the hitters who take hangers for strikes and same hitter will chase the offspeed in dirt or FB up…they are late. Not seeing ball early enough. Panic take because ball looks like it’s hitting them and then panic swing because ball looks like a strike then is not…
Funny how the best hitting coaches I know don’t work out of big cookie cut cages with shiny new turf and metal fences. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Don’t judge a hitting coach by his cage or toys. Great info is only as good as the person translating it!
Congrats to one my best friends
@Cody_Atkinson_
long time cage rat, an overall phenomenal person, and one of the best hitting coaches in the game,on his new journey as the Texas Rangers MILB Hitting coordinator! The future is bright my friend! Keep killing it! Love you brotha!
Guys that hit .210 go 0-2 and auto 0-4 because of stress and panic. 2-2 turns into 2-4 because of lost focus or care.
Guys who hit .310 turn 0-2 into 1-4 and 2-2 into 3-4/4-4.
Having a great swing helps an enormous amount but having a great mind will always be the greatest edge
Best body control and lower body in the game! Unreal.
If you want to hit at a high level your ability to make a move; on time, consistent, and connected with ground is an absolute must! This video is absolute fire!!!!
Not sure who needs to see this but timing and vision are by far the most important piece to game hitting. Late panic cripples hitters....path and adjustability will both greatly improve. You’ll miss less, chase less, and ultimately hit more “easy rockets”!
Huge majority of hitters have engrained bad timing into what they think is on time. Constantly taking panic swings. Wondering why they chase, have no adjustability, and constantly miss hit great pitches to hit....Fix timing first folks. Then approach. Mechanics will improve a lot
Game Day Hitting:
1. Personal Cage Routine (Locks you in and maintains swing)
2. Always Timing! (In duggout)
3. On Deck AB (full swings watching ball; feel timing of swing)
4. At Bat Feels (have feels for in between pitches)
5. Quick Eval (prep, execute, learn, flush, adapt)
When some one asks what hitters to look at I always start with Edgar. Guy was a HOF hitter with an all time swing. This swing would hit Any generations pitching....
Chopping may be a thing of the past for most now but swinging up too early is very prevalent in many these days. Here’s a great example of what being “on top” of ball with hands looks like. Barrel works under and through. Not under and straight up or left.
why you have bad timing:
1. Late making move to ground
- too much back move?
- trying to read pitch then make move?
- guessing?
- forward move too early (lunge or foot down at 50/50 and drift out of backside)?
- path disconnected and outside shoulders (bad long &slow)

Folks, when choosing a “select” program or team for your kid, please do your research on what kind of development your going to get for your money. Many programs recruit and compile teams of good players who win because they are better now but unfortunately too many don’t improve
No feel is universal. Absolutely none. Everyone is different. Some think swing down. Some think up. Some through. Some need to go forward. Other go to ground. Some try and hit ball out front. Some deep. Stop teaching 1 way. Period.
I feel like we all need to say thank you daily to mr
@HyattCraig
for all the amazing gifs and videos he makes and posts! Guys a machine and helps way more hitters then most realize! I’m lucky to be able to call him a friend! Thanks for everything Craig!
There’s a reason why our best swings feel effortless, easy, and smooth and the ball goes further then ever...
Most hitters experience this feeling only a few times a year.
The best hitters feel this everyday.
True connection in the swing mixed with elite timing is gold...

can flat out hit and only going to get better. Hitting nearly .400 on varsity as a freshman in a league w/ numerous D1 arms. 2B off the wall in left off 92mph FB.
Hitting is really hard…What your working on matters. What your thinking or not thinking matters. How often your hitting matters. How strong you are matters. How well you see matters. How good do you want to be…..matters! The best don’t get to or stay the best by being content!

info for 2021, pretty sure 1,000’s of hitters of all age levels would improve a lot quicker then the latter...
“Data” hitting coaches who have very little understanding of what it takes to hit high level pitching will absolutely ruin some milb dreams. They will help a select few.
Coaches who understand hitting from every aspect will be the ones who ultimately prevail in the long run...
Life is Good.
Teaching hitting everyday is a blessing.
But it’ll never compare to playing.
Hitters who take playing for granted are not allowed in my cage.
When you step in, you are lucky, you are blessed, you work your ass off, or you don’t come back!
Reminder to all hitters about to hit that 2-3 month prep for your respective seasons;
Hitting well in the cage, in closed skill environments or chasing numbers without context of the game, does not lead to in game success.
Move better. Challenge. Adjust. Challenge more!
My advice to all my college hitters starting their seasons:
1. Slow the mind, slow the game
2. Trust the process but adjust as needed
3. Play for your team not you
4. Enjoy every minute, no matter if it’s a struggle or success, you get to play baseball!
5. Keep a journal!
Even the best hitters think too much, forget how good they are from time to time, and doubt their abilities when they are struggling.
Everybody is different but everyone is human and humans are meant to learn from their failures.
...but never forget your success’ and who you R!
Quit telling hitters to sit back and go oppo against soft lefties. Being defensive against a worse arm is not the answer.
Go to see. Shrink zone. Hit through everything!
All the showcases, events, scouting services, social media posts, rankings, don’t mean a darn thing if you don’t have the tools, skills, or raw athleticism, to get where you want to get.
Move more efficiently. Get stronger. Get faster. Throw harder. And good things will happen!
The best hitters I know, obsess over their mechanics in practice (mirror, tee, flips, BP). Then they trust their work during competition. They use film and take notes to figure out where things break down and don’t translate and then adjust and repeat!
Rotational Hitting vs linear hitting will always be argued. A great swing needs both linear movements and rotational movements. You can’t argue that. Figuring out where a hitter needs to be more linear or more rotational is always unique to each hitter!

“In The Box” feels and thoughts:
- breathe out your thoughts
- relax shoulders/neck
- own your stance
- find your legs
- have a simple mantra you tell yourself; ex. (Pitchers Suck)
Find your routine in the box that creates relaxed but hyper focused confidence!

“I want you to feel like your back shoulder works under your chin and separate from your head. Imagine your head floats above your shoulders. This will help you stay in zone longer and miss less.”
“Sometimes the highest level of form, is no form at all” - Bruce Lee
As a hitting instructor of all levels for quite some time now it is very evident that each hitter I work with is unique. Sifting through size strength thoughts and mechanics to figure out best route per hitter
At bats can be won in the box with adjustments, on deck circle with timing, in the dugout watching, in pregame routine, in car ride over, in night before’s practice, and in offseason.
Don’t cheat yourself, your coaches, or your team. Put your work in. Prepare to dominate. Adjust
Let your game swings do the talking.
Let your presence wreak confidence.
Let your resilience overcome tough situations.
Free your mind of negativity.
Free your thoughts of outcomes.
Free your movements of tension.
Be in the moment.
Be a mental giant.
Be best version of U!
Your move from set up to launch position should be the most consistent part of your swing. Every hitter has a stance and stride that will maximize their bodies ability to repeat their best swing and be on time more often. Balance. Rhythm. Tempo. Control. And more Balance.
Hitting = reacting (subconscious skill)
We react better when we see better (balance and timing)
Everyone different though.
Nobody swings the same. Your ability to teach hitting relies so much more on your ability to connect, dissect, and communicate then any particular “style”
Who needs sleep when you got excessive amounts of voice over videos to make! Teaching hitting has never felt like a job to me. Anyone who gets to teach this game for a living and takes it for granted should go work a 10 hour shift at BOEING like my dad has done for 33 years...
Special when two teams you train through the year make it to the Premier League Champo! The pinnacle of league play in our state! So happy for both teams! Their players and coaches deserve it! I saw first hand how hard they all worked!!!!

Many hitters struggle going from cage to game. There’s many reasons for this but one of the biggest reasons are swings that are not balanced and stable.
A balanced and stable move to hit translates much quicker and more consistently. Better timing, posture, and vision!
“What kind of swing do you teach?”
...one that works in game better than before lol
...no absolutes. Individualize
...fix the root cause of the reason for the miss or inconsistency
...challenge, adjust, adapt
...rake
The showcase world of select baseball is not a good place for 95% of Youth players.
If you do not run a 6.9 or better, throw 85+ mph, or hit balls far. Quit wasting your time and money.
Instead, get bigger, stronger, faster, and develop skills!
#GetBetterToday
There’s such a fine line between; creating a swing that maximizes exit velocity and launch angle and a swing that maximizes efficiency and forgiveness. Very few do both.
I want a swing that hits the ball more consistently hard against great pitching. On plane deep and out front!
Game hitting has no styles. No egos. No products to sell. No narratives to push. If you hit in game well, you hit. If you hit in practice well but not in game, you don’t hit. The game is all that matters!
Approach and mentality directly influence timing.
Rhythm and timing directly influence mechanics and overall swing.
Be on time to best FB. Expect best fastball. Expect to kill best FB. Take best swing. Think your a dude and believe your gonna mash!
#MentalGiantsWhoRake
Best purchase I’ve ever made for hitters...light weight, free standing shatter proof full body mirror with wheels. Highly recommend these to anyone in hitting. Not cheap but well worth it!
12u LL player:
“I feel like I don’t have to swing as hard and the ball comes off much harder and more consistent”
26 year old big leaguer:
“I feel like when I’m at my best my swing is unforced and easy and the ball flies”
Consistently seeing 10+k games from youth/HS teams. And it’s not a trade off for power.
Professional hitters did not grow up punching out 30 times a season...
Your swing should create better decisions. More consistent quality contact. Less miss, not more.
D1 high school hitter took a round today without knowing rapsodo was turned on: went 94 (378ft), 96 (364ft), 95 (line drive), 95 (line drive), 97 personal best (line drive), 93 (370ft). The next round he knew it was on and went: 93 ground ball, 88 fly out, 95 gb, 82 fist, 94 gb..
Hitting has to be the most opinionated thing in all of sports and it’s crazy how many people are flat out wrong.
Being on plane with relevant timing is the only true absolutes!
Timing the ball with your eyes and hands set you up for panic. Timing the ball with your body allows for non panic adjustments and promotes “A” swing more often.

You don’t get this result by speeding up and turning left….if your not developing timing and adjustability, your not developing game hitters.
Problem solvers > Cage Hero’s
Had a group of three hitters in the cage today where one guy left thinking swing down. Another thought swing up. And the last hitter just thought through.
Everyone is different.
Not many know about the
@EvCC_Baseball
coaching tree….it’s really impressive.
@PitchingGeneral
started a legacy that lives on today in some incredible baseball minds….
Struggling to figure out where to start or what to promote to your hitters:
Balanced set up and move.
Vision and timing.
Hit through everything.
Mentally we need to instill confidence and aggressiveness. Develop an understanding of what pitches they hit hard & don’t & why.
There’s not one way to teach hitting. Some ppl can get away with things and be successful but a huge majority of hitting teachings these days promote compromised shoulders and frontsides. Hitting the ball in the air should be a byproduct of good moves that translate to game hitng
“I’m just trying to get my foot down and recognize the pitch” - trout
When you watch trout swing, he doesn’t lose rhythm. Getting foot down early vs getting ready slightly early to recognize better may be the single most important detail for elite timing.
#makeMove2see
It’s never been about recognition, boasting, “look at me”, buy my product, I’m the best, or any of the other garbage self promoting things I see daily.
It’s all about learning, learning, and learning. I want to be the best possible hitting coach to my players.
Period.
#BeReal
Some hitters hear the info, work it, and believe they get it...
The best hitters live, breathe, question, and master it...
Average hitters look for excuses...
Great hitters DON’T make excuses, they are just better TOMORROW!
#DoNotBeAverage
Teaching exit velocity and swinging up at the mercy of making rotational moves with the front side is a great way to look good in the cage and inconsistent or worse in game.
Teach game swings. Teach timing. Teach backside moves.

for going 4-4 w/ 4 doubles…after 3 I told him there was no way he hits another and here’s him proving me wrong.
A great sequence allows for the best timing.
The best timing allows for the best decisions.
The best decisions allow for natural reaction (non panic).
No panic allows barrel to work on plane deeper/longer.
Longer on plane = bigger margin for error.
#HitBallinAirTheRightWay
Just the beginning of my favorite time of year! So many guys already raking. Let’s go hitters! All hail spitting on spin down. Clobbering FB’s over the white. Staying through hangers. Adjusting on the fly like a seasoned vet. Let’s crush PNW!
The problem with good hitters with bad swings is pitching will almost always beat it eventually.
But a bad hitter with a great swing may never hit.
Live at bats are nothing like a flip or tee. Get better at hitting by hitting!
Find the ability to separate cage from game!
#Rake
When your swing starts producing stronger angles, you can attack pitches differently. What a cool example of naturally turning on a ball most would try and force oppo!
One of the softer cleaner entries in the game. Too many coaches preaching big moves and force production. Do your own research people. Lot of bad out there. This is not that :)-
