AQE have decided, due to COVID-19, that the transfer tests cannot proceed this year. This severely limits parental choice & childrenโ€™s opportunities, with disappointment for many children & parents. I will continue to work with all stakeholders in these difficult circumstances.

Today is pay day for most teachers. Pay is now over 20% less in real terms than it was in 2010. An extra 1.25% has been taken in National Insurance. ยฃ44 has been taken for the GTCNI! This is the time for action. Details of Zoom briefings will be emailed to members today.

Ahead of industrial action in schools in NI this week, a reminder of the scandalous disparity in teachers' pay across the UK and Ireland. Salaries have fallen by 16% in real terms over the last 4 years; new teachers in Scotland and the Republic earn around 60% more.

Does the Minister @Education_NI not know that there are contractual agreements on cover (including composite classes)? Teachers should not accept pupils from colleagues who are absent for a Covid related reason (its an absence greater than 2 days).

The NASUWT have contacted DE & EA seeking an urgent clarification on the EA guidance. The contractual position is that a principal can reasonably direct a teacher to work at school or home. If the work can be done at home your principal should direct you to do it at home.
