I was asked to speak at an event on “what it’s like to be a woman in science”. In the spirit of transparency, I tell them I’m pregnant but will still be working at that point. They emailed back today saying they will “go with another speaker” ☹️

In hindsight, I honestly don't know. I felt I should let them know out of courtesy but that sounds ridiculous now. I definitely didn't want it taken into account because there isn't really anything to accommodate. It's just business as usual.
@micahgallen
I expressed my disappointment but I could see I wasn’t going to get anywhere. They didn’t even apologise now that I think about it. This happens all the time though - people try to “ease the load” by holding back opportunities, not realising how damaging that is.

Thanks Tasha, they said they didn’t want to put me under any “pressure” but the irony was completely lost on them. I wanted to showcase the fact that women can and do work extremely capably throughout pregnancy. But they were very clear in their response.

Developing brains are so amazing. My 4yo couldn't sleep as he kept thinking about a scary character from a movie. I reasoned "but you know it's not real" and he countered with "but my brain thinks it is" 🤓🧠 Touché!
Today my 4 year old told me that during song time at daycare the teachers asked what songs they'd like to sing... Fionn put his hand up and asked if they knew "Come As You Are" by Nirvana.... Cue awkward silence... 🤣
