Criminal & Social Justice Reform Advocate | Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida — Elected State Attorney | Media Inquiries: Keisha

Today we mourn the loss of democracy. I am the duly-elected State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit. Nothing done by a weak dictator can change that. This is an outrage. I will not be bullied by DeSantis or used as a tool in his failing and disastrous presidential campaign.
Monique Worrell, the duly-elected State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit, will address media today at 11 a.m. outside of the Orange County Courthouse regarding the announcement that she has been suspended from office by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
"Everyone, Democrat, Republican, Independent, or otherwise should be concerned that here in the state of Florida one person can remove duly elected officials because they are not politically aligned, and that is exactly what an attack on democracy looks like.”
FL State Attorney
@MoniqueHWorrell
says DeSantis suspended her to win extremists who want to "take our country back," adding, "Taking it backwards is what he's doing... to a time where people who look like me don't hold elected political positions."

@KamalaHarris
knows this country needs leaders with big ideas who are not afraid to stand up to the establishment. That’s what I will bring to Orlando, and I’m proud to receive her endorsement for State Attorney.
"Ron DeSantis doesn’t believe in the rule of law. Period. Full stop. And he’s proven it over and over again.
The Florida governor’s suspension of the duly elected district attorney in Orlando is just the latest attack on the fundamental freedoms that he is sworn to uphold."
When one elected executive can overturn the will of the voters arbitrarily simply because he disagrees with their policies, it’s time to question just what kind of democracy we have.
Who will be targeted next, and when will Floridians say enough is enough?
"We have to understand that, at this point, this governor is acting in an unconstitutional, illegal way to subvert democracy and give himself power," -
@MaxwellFrostFL
Thank you, Congressman for speaking up and bringing awareness to the political witch-hunt that’s happening here in “the free state of Florida.”
@MaxwellFrostFL
I will never stop fighting for fairness or for the people I was elected to serve. I will take every legal step to reverse this un-democratic action. And I will run for re-election so the voters can, once again, have their say.
As I’ve been saying,
#FactsMatter
.
It’s amazing that my policies are fueling rampant crime in a district I don’t even live in. The prosecutors in those areas are members of your own party.
Crime is down and has been for the past two years I’ve been in office in our Circuit.🤷🏽♀️
Governor
@RonDeSantisFL
MUST remove Soros-funded prosecutor
@MoniqueHWorrell
from power ASAP
Her policies are fueling rampant crime in Congressional District 11 & the surrounding area
We cannot allow this radical-leftist prosecutor to turn Central Florida into the next Chicago
It's good to gather with friends this evening to discuss the events of the day. Thank you all for your support!
The call attendance is limited, so if you aren't able to be admitted, stay tuned for the recording to be shared.
The Orange County Sheriff outlined a:
• 23% decrease in Part 1 Crimes 2018-2022
• 20% decrease in Part 1 Crimes in Pine Hills 2018-2022, and 51% from 2013-2022
• 17% decrease in Part 1 Crimes in Holden Heights
• 16% decrease in Violent Crime 2018-2022
The narrative that my presence in Central Florida has fueled rampant crime in my Circuit is simply not rooted in fact. Be wary of those who spew accusations without evidence.

is anti-democratic and unconstitutional. Join the rally for democracy in Orlando tomorrow at 7 p.m. on the steps of City Hall.
We're ENDORSED! Thank you

is particularly focused on criminal justice reform and has taught and advocated a wide range of progressive criminal justice ideas throughout her career. She most recently served as the Chief Legal Officer of the Reform Alliance.
I'm ready to come before the Florida Supreme Court with unwavering determination! This hearing will mark a pivotal moment in our pursuit of justice, and I'm honored to be at the forefront.
“To the extent the governor disagrees with how Ms. Worrell is lawfully exercising her prosecutorial discretion, such a disagreement does not constitute a basis for suspension from elected office,”

A year ago today, I took a stand for justice, pushed through fear, ignored naysayers, and filed my Candidacy for State Attorney for the 9th Judicial Circuit. A year later, I’m entrenched in reimagining justice and building more fair and equitable prosecution for our community.
I'd like to be able to stop talking about DeSantis' attacks on the rule of law. I'd rather be back in the office I was elected to serve, making my community safer & improving Florida's criminal justice system. I'd rather talk about how my county reduced crime by ~30% in 5 yrs.
While Ft. Lauderdale was under water, the Governor had people fishing around Orlando to see which cases he can single out from over 100,000 cases our office processed since I have taken office, while he prances around Southeast Asia on his dilapidated presidential campaign tour.

Ron DeSantis will stop at nothing to silence businesses, media, or elected leaders who don’t agree with him.
Our state attorney is doing her job and now she’s being targeted by a Governor who desperately wants to distract from his failures.

Congratulations

and THANK YOU for your dedication to fighting for the will of the people who elected you.
This road is harder than we expected, and your courage sets an example for all of us walking the same path. 💪🏾
Honored to be sworn in AGAIN yesterday.
When I ran for this seat in 2022 I could never have guessed that I would go through: four elections, three swearing ins, two members expelled, first time in TN expelled lawmakers voted back.
The Mandate Remains: Protect Kids, Not Guns! 🧡
Today, as citizens gathered to celebrate our nation’s independence, another senseless act of violence has once again wrecked havoc in our communities. My heart is with all impacted. May this be a reminder that none of us are free until we are all free. We MUST end gun violence!
Thank you, Chris! My role as State Attorney is to protect the citizens of Orange and Osceola Counties whether that means putting people behind bars or creating a path for them to return to society as productive members of our community. I am proud of the work we’re doing!
These smears against
@MoniqueHWorrell
have nothing to do with public safety and everything to do with politics. We stand firmly behind the State Attorney we elected.
Throwback to the 90’s, just after I wrapped up my work in the Public Defender’s office for Orange and Osceola counties.
I’ve been working for justice and progress in our community for more than 20 years, and I’m so grateful to devote my life to this work.

DeSantis says if president he'll "lean in on" local prosecutors—violating principles of both federalism (fed govt has zero legal authority over state/local prosecutors) and an independent justice system. For a Harvard law grad, he sure doesn't know much about the Constitution.

“The Special Victims Unit will be led by longtime Assistant State Attorney William Jay with the goal of reducing the caseload for attorneys as Worrell’s office combats a staffing shortage it attributes to low pay and a pandemic-fueled backlog of cases.”
As we celebrate Labor Day, let's reflect on the courage and determination of the labor movement. They fought for the rights of the working class, and that same commitment to hope and progress is needed now as we work to create a TRUE justice system in America.

It took one man this summer to nullify those votes."

! It is more important now than ever before to have State Attorneys who are committed to ending the criminalization of poverty and addiction.
Today we announce our endorsement of two state attorney candidates: Monique Worrell of Circuit 9 and Joe Kimok of Circuit 17. Worrell and Kimok have committed to ending harmful “tough on crime” policies from the racist War on Drugs. Election Day is Aug. 18. Let’s do this.
“From the day that I took office, there was obstacle after obstacle that was placed in my way. They didn’t like what I said, they didn’t like how I said it…”
"If voters continue to support reformer prosecutors, those newly elected district attorneys and even state attorneys general can enact important reforms that will have a broad effect on police practices as well as prosecutions."

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended state attorney Monique Worrell in August, and she's been fighting the suspension ever since. "The country should be alarmed because this is one of the greatest attacks on democracy that we have ever seen."
Listen:
"With the suspension of Worrell, said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried, DeSantis has pulled a veil over justice and imposed a reign of his own making...
Building our incredible team of prosecutors here has been one of the greatest privileges of serving in the office of State Attorney.
I’m so proud of the commitment and sacrifice these women and men give to our communities every day!

We're just 2 days away from our first finance deadline since DeSantis' attacked our democracy and removed me from my duly elected office of State Attorney.
We need your support to stand with us - your donation will show the strength of our resistance.
The governor wants full control over Florida politics, and he doesn’t respect the will of the electorate - the voters who resoundingly chose me to serve in this office in 2020.
#ThrowbackThursday
- remember when the voters elected me to serve as the Ninth Judicial Circuit State Attorney?
Our communities demanded reform, and their choice shows their support for the work of my office in reshaping our justice system to be more fair and just.

I 1000% support
@MoniqueHWorrell
& her unapologetic stance in doing what the voters elected her to do. The continued aggression from the Governor & those conspiring with him is a direct contravention of law & order. Further, it’s an erosion of the democracy they say they uphold.
“It’s easy to stand outside of our community and criticize the decisions that are made inside our community instead of helping us to make our community better . . . I think that it’s shameful that this tragedy is being politicized.”
"DeSantis’ actions may be targeted toward his personal vendetta against Worrell, but he could be seriously undermining the process of justice in Orange and Osceola counties."
