1/ Today is the 49th anniversary of
#RoeVWade
. In 2014, I had an abortion. It was one of the most difficult experiences of my life; it shouldn't have been.
I'm sharing my story so my community and future constituents know they are not alone. That I see them and love them. π§΅
2/ When I had my abortion, the system did what it is designed to do: stigmatize my experience, cloud my personal decision making, and deny me dignity, love, and respect.
Abortion is a medical procedure.
It must be safe, accessible, and stigma-free for ALL Texans
#RoeVWade
3/ In 2021, some of the most regressive bills in the country passed, including SB8, which banned abortion after 6 weeks, and SB4, which banned abortion medication by mail after 7 weeks. We must continue to speak out, organize, & protect abortion access for all people, together.
4/ As your state senator, I will fight for abortion rights for all people. I will fight because I felt the sting of stigmatizing policies. I am ready to put everything on the line for this fight. Voting right isnβt enough: this needs to be an organizing priority year round.
5/Abortion must be safe and legal in Texas, because the folks who feel the heaviest burden of these policies (devastating infant/maternal health outcomes) are the same folks who will have the hardest time traveling out of state for health care.
