I know that switches from 2D to 3D animation are generally frowned upon, but....
ohmygoshbluelookssocuteinthenewshowandIwannahugherandpetherandshessofluffyandandandand-
This horrible, horrible animation pops up here every few months, and it never stops being funny. This is literally what the phrase "ok boomer" was made for, whether you like that phrase or not. There is nothing that it will pertain to more fittingly than this.
“MCU movies aren’t real cinema”
“Rap isn’t real music”
“Video games aren’t real art”
“Animation is a genre”
These arguments are all cut from the same cloth and have no use outside of irony.
I honestly have so much respect for Schaffrillas. Dude could’ve easily taken the year off from YouTube or just straight-up retired after how his year started, and instead he’s been on a hot streak of consistently high-quality video essays.
You have my immense respect, good sir.
Going into the 2020s, I think we could all benefit from never seeing anyone unironically use these memes ever again. They're all the equivalent of "I have no argument" and are pure admissions of defeat.
You know, at least when Grey DeLisle retweeted A/I art of Daphne, she owned up to her mistake when it was pointed out to her.
Tara Strong’s fall from grace needs to be studied.
Whether by accident or by design, the 2010s will be most remembered as the decade where horse-related things got insanely popular.
*shrug* Make of that what you will.
I'm not the only person who was absolutely horrified of this book as a kid, right? This shit is like what you'd see in a Cronenberg film, who thought kids would find this appealing? It's the sole reason that whole "[x] isn't real, [x] can't hurt you" meme exists.
"Nicktoons Racing" is fascinating to me, because it came out at basically the only time in history where they could have a Nickelodeon crossover get away with making SpongeBob the smallest character on the cover.
The whole “why didn’t Emily stop Chugga sooner/why did she go public with this” argument is so stupid.
Emily: Hey, can you stop? You’re making me uncomfortable.
Chugga: Okay. (harasses other women)
The whole point of going public is to hold people TRULY accountable.
Let it be known that the author of the second meme actually killed it, Pepe style. There is no excuse to use it or any of these other images unironically at this point.
BTW, “Pickle and Peanut” is absolutely gonna get an ironic/semi-unironic cult following in 2-3 years. It happened with “Fanboy and ChumChum”, it happened with “Planet Sheen”, it’ll happen with these two.
Holy shit, I feel so honored. One of the best parody accounts of our time just followed me. If you haven't already, please give
@DevinCow
a follow, they're very informative and funny.
Season 1 of “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” are interesting in that they both feature episodes where the father character gives up television: something so out of character that it literally only could’ve happened in season 1 of either show.
I realize that references aren’t everything and the film obviously has to work as a film first and foremost.
But goddamn, it is actually inspiring how much the people working on this movie just adore Mario.
If you were born any time between 1990 and now, there's a high chance that you were born in close proximity of, or possibly on the exact same day of, a new Simpsons episode. Which episode is that for you?
Mine is The Springfield Files, which aired the day before I was born.
The people who think that there's still a chance for Martinet to replace Pratt seem to have forgotten that the directors of this movie also wrote the stories for these episodes.
I don't think they're the type to bend the knee to criticism they receive online.
90% of people who talk about modern "Simpsons" or modern "Family Guy" are people who've seen a few 10-second out of context clips on Twitter and think that they've now seen the series.
Remember that one time when Family Guy decided that one of its main characters potentially getting divorced wasn’t enough conflict and so to fill for time, they used up a fourth of the episode with another goddamn 6-minute chicken fight?
John K stans are so weird to me. “Oh, he doesn’t play by the rules of modern animation”. Cool, but I’d prefer someone who plays by the rules of the age of consent, you know?
I agree this doesn’t look good, but “Does Justin Roiland only have one voice?” is the wrong angle to take. Patrick Warburton also has one (debatably two) voice(s) and y’all love him.
If there’s one thing we can learn from the success of this series and “SpongeBob”, it’s that if you want a long-lasting hit series on Nickelodeon, literally just start in early May.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but given the film has already doubled its budget and has at least a month left in theatres, it's set to break even at worst, right?
You'd think people would've learned after what happened with "Elemental".
Nickelodeon currently has both an original episodic Nicktoon in "Middlemost Post" and a new "Star Trek" cartoon, both of which I've seen literally zero people talk about online, and yet the second a live-action FOP series gets announced, everyone's talking about it.
Siiiiiiiigh.
You know how CN opened the 2010s with Adventure Time and Regular Show? Two widely influential and acclaimed series that put CN on a good streak? I'm not saying these two new shows will necessarily be that influential, or that good, but it's a glimmer of hope for Nick, you know?
"The MCU really isn't cinema though"
Congrats, you literally completely missed my point and are part of the problem.
"These examples aren't comparable"
They all tackle the same mindset of "I don't like/understand [x], therefore it doesn't count as art". They're comparable.
If AVGN didn't exist, there'd be no Nostalgia Critic. With no Nostalgia Critic, there'd be no Mr. Enter. Without Mr. Enter, I'd have never met my girlfriend on Enter's (now-defunct) DeviantArt page.
James Rolfe is indirectly responsible for the relationship I'm currently in.
@LoudToon99
DreamWorks films are a rollercoaster of quality, this is literally nothing new.
Just imagine if Twitter existed when Shark Tale came out four months after Shrek 2.
@MarioBrothBlog
Reminds me how they programmed a unique message in the event a player got 99 stars.
While 100 rotations could be accomplished through a TAS, I think this can only be seen via hacking.
I love everything about this. The reduction of Puss in Boots 2 as the "funny cat spin-off". The anti-Disney brainrot. The complete disregard of a decade's worth of work from a single animation studio. Peak Film Twitter. Why on earth does anyone dislike this place.
Remember that episode of My Life as a Teenage Robot that took its artstyle inspiration from Dr. Seuss? Guess what came out on the exact same day in November of 2003?
...Yeah. I'll let you be the judge on which adaptation was more faithful, lol.
"2021 is gonna suck too, the virus isn't going away when midnight hits"
Lol, no one's saying it is, they're just hopeful that even if 2021 isn't great, it'll doubtlessly be objectively better than 2020. Let them have a moment of optimism, christ.
I personally think that, with Missing Link winning the Golden Globe, Klaus winning the Annie, and Toy Story 4 winning the Oscar, that shows just how strong the best animated films of the year truly were. Each are strong in their own ways and resonated with so many people.
@NulCorporation
Are these people just unaware that Seth MacFarlane is one of the most left-leaning celebrities out there and very much does not genuinely agree with this?
While in the shower, I realized that the reason “Jack and Jill” was released on 11/11/11 is because each number is its own set of twins.
Fffffffffffuck.
Elemental's first third is a bit rocky, and its story isn't mind-blowing or anything, but once it primarily focuses on the romance between Wade and Ember, it's a lot better and makes the whole thing worth it. Made my mom and I tear up. Deserves a better chance than it's getting.
You don't have to be interested in any series currently airing on Nick or CN. You should never force yourself to see something you're not interested in.
I just think it's unfortunate that at least 80% of TV animation discourse revolves around stuff from either Disney or Netflix.
Like, goddamn, that is rough. Imagine if Disney or DreamWorks had a year that consistently mediocre. People would lose their shit.
The fact that we got Spider-Verse the next year is the purest encapsulation of the phrase, “the night is darkest just before the dawn”.
@TheNCSmaster
For a much younger demographic whose first introduction to Mario was the movie, giving them as wide a variety of options in the coming future as this is a smart move.
Spider-Verse:
-Won Best Animated Feature above Disney
-Made 4X its budget back
-Has a hit song that's been in the top 20 since the year started
-Is the highest-rated SPA film
-Has a sequel, spin-off, and TV series planned
Can you people just be grateful for once?
@TheNCSmaster
“Why did they get a big name to voice Mario in the movie? Voice actors deserve more respect!”
“Why did they get some nobody to voice Mario in the games? They should’ve gotten a bigger name!”
You know, I don't even remember making this prediction, and I normally don't like to give Doug Walker attention, but I'd like to point out that he has gotten so lazy and predictable that I was able to predict this blatantly obvious thumbnail almost a year and a half in advance.
Inb4 Doug Walker reviews Detective Pikachu despite having very little knowledge and respect for the franchise and its fans and he has a magnifying glass in the thumbnail or something.
To this day, it blows my mind that The Peanuts Movie turned out as amazing as it did. It has both a Meghan Trainor song AND a Flo Rida song on the soundtrack. Like, that alone should’ve been the writing on the wall, but instead it’s one of the best movies of the last decade.
If someone ever complains about Hollywood's lack of originality or relying on remakes as if it's only been a thing they've been doing recently, here's a fun fact:
The Wizard of Oz (yes, that Wizard of Oz) was the third remake of that story in less than 15 years.
In general, the same people that say things like "adult cartoons these days are just 22 minutes of sex jokes and ugly animation" are the same people that completely ignored Tuca and Bertie before cancellation and/or hate-watched Big Mouth.
When Doug Walker expressed confusion at the scene involving a “giant turtle” in his review of “Moana”, I initially thought he was referring to the small turtle she follows into the ocean at the start. It wasn’t until later that I found out he mistook Tamatoa for a turtle, lol.
So, it's safe to call the final season of FOP the worst season of...anything at this point, right? I mean, at least the final seasons of Roseanne and Game of Thrones had SOME bright spots in them and the former could be enjoyed ironically.
Pilot episodes are great since they have the opportunity to be the perfect introduction to a show's characters and formula while getting the viewer excited for things to come with foreshadowing.
Here's some of my favorite pilots, animated and live-action. What are some of yours?
"The Bad Guys" is an overall solid animated film. Not anything mindblowing; you can easily see its villain coming and some of its characters could stand to be more developed, but I dug its stylized animation, enjoyable characters, and sense of humor. Glad I finally saw it.
I have little personal attachment to the show, but holy shit, it ended nearly 2 years ago. Give it a rest. If you truly think that it killed Western animation, kindly visit a proctologist so they can take your head out of your ass. I don't give a shit if you're trolling anymore.
"The first one's not that bad".
Okay, on its own, the mindset is fine and I even agree with it, but it's not an argument on its own, and I often see it presented as such, so that's why it's here. If you disagree with someone's contrarianism, actually explain your side.
K-Pop has easily the second-worst fanbase behind Star Wars. There's no other group of people that wants so desperately and so joyously to ruin the lives of others while forcing their tastes down your throat. And don't even get me started about them celebrating celebrity deaths.
Remember last year when people were championing DreamWorks as the “death of Disney” after Puss in Boots 2? Guess they’re back to being hated now.
The predictability of this love/hate cycle is just sad at this point.
Hot Take: Anyone who gets upset at "Trolls Band Together" doing well is no different than the adults who turned their noses up at them for watching and enjoying Ninja Turtles or Transformers or He-Man as children.
You know one particularly sad detail about this whole ProJared drama?
His Ride to Hell video was one where he was outspoken in the game's terrible treatment of women, and at the time, he left a positive message for anyone watching.
Shame he couldn't live up to his own standards.
@Toonforbrains
I saw someone put it best when they said CinemaSins is Schrödinger's Joke. It's a joke if they intentionally or unintentionally get something wrong and it's meant to be taken seriously when they give actual critiques. They've made themselves impossible to criticize as such.
By order of the Internet Council of Creativity, I hereby ban the use of this image for the foreseeable future. Refusal to comply will result in a 12-month sentence for failing to prove the existence of two creative cells in one’s body.
I wish the Gravity Falls fandom would showcase other great scenes from the series aside from "Grunkle Stan, I trust you" and "I EAT KIDS". Preferably ones that aren't spoiler-heavy and haven't been shared and dissected a million times. Like these scenes, for example.
