Finally, the website is relatively functional on mobile devices as well! What is left to be done? To gradually fill up the FINE ART section with artworks for sale, and to add bits and pieces, such as client testimonials. But, bear with me - this will get sorted out as well!๐Ÿฅต

Spotted a bit too late (yesterday evening) too pinpoint the author... It's a very nice piece and whoever bought it certainly knew who painted it.

1/ WHAT IS A PEN PAINTING? And what is so special about this technique? I haven't studied it until today, but I found it to be so interesting, I simply had to share. It is a combination of drawing and painting technique that is characteristic of 17th century Dutch painters...

Johannes Vermeer lived in the Dutch city of Delft. Wondered how the skyline of that city looked like in the 17th century? Please look at the image below. It is a more then 1 metre (!) wide drawn/painted signed penpainting by the monogrammist โ€˜CSGโ€™. โ€˜Delft, a view with the Nieuweโ€ฆ

1/ THE ART MARKET: This 'Allegory of Time' has just sold for 300 000 โ‚ฌ against a 20 000 - 30 000 โ‚ฌ estimate. The auction house, Native Auctions from Bruxelles, attributed it to Netherlandish or German school and dated around 1550. But, was it a good buy? #OldMaster #Auction

1/ THE ART MARKET: I was a bit tempted to make a dirty 'I like my sculptures the way I like my men...' joke with this handsome St Sebastian, but I decided for politeness on this occasion. So I am just presenting you this lot, which was auctioned today...

4/ Her name was Philipina Thereisa Masin and she was a canoness at Denain. Later on, she joined the Carmelite order in Ghent, and became a proper nun. So, the ring that we noticed on our lady's finger is not a wedding ring, but it most likely symbolises her loyalty to Christ.

12/ Thanks to the very detailed list of confiscated paintings from the von Weinberg collection, published in 'Museum im Widerspruch: Das Stรคdel und der Nationalsozialismus', I was able to add 'von Weinberg' in the provenance of several paintings from the Mimara collection.

Auctioned by @bonhams1793 as a circle of Francesco Furini and sold for whooping 25 000 ยฃ against a modest 2000-3000ยฃ estimate, this splendid St Sebastian should have been attributed to circle/follower of Giordano Luca - or maybe even the master himself? #sleeper #oldmaster

1/ THE ART FAIR: To the utmost despair of poor art dealers and gallerists, I am visiting another art fair. This time I am targeting PAN Amsterdam. If you are in the mood for a meet-up, do let me know! I will be visiting the fair between 20th and 24th... #ArtFair #PrayForTheDutch

1/ THE PAN ART FAIR 2023/ Today, a very exciting and even a slightly controversial PAN is closing down. You have until 18 o'clock to visit and check out some fine examples of Old Masters. The one that you must see (and then join the discussion) is The Winter Prince. #PAN #ArtFair

1/ SLEEPER OF THE MONTH APRIL: Since I haven't been very active on Twitter for the first half of 2022, I didn't tweet about this 'Portrait of a man', which was offered by Azur Encheres Cannes as a work of German School and with a rather low estimate of only 2 000 โ€“ 4 000 โ‚ฌ...

But, Cote Basque also tried to sell - and more than successfully - this charming 'Allegory of Night'. Attributed to Nicolas-Guy Brenet (but most likely not by him), it was est. at 800 - 1 200 โ‚ฌ. Naturally, I underbid horribly and it went to some lucky buyer for 4 000 โ‚ฌ instead.

ARS HORRIBILIS: O, the horrors of eBay! This boy is being sold for 3 900 $. It is not an exceptionally ugly painting 'per se', but the general atmosphere is just plain disturbing. The dog will not make it through the night, and the poor creature knows it.

3d/ But nothing could have prepared me for the absolutely amazing blue hues in the feathers of a pheasant, or the reappearance of a tiny spider in the background, which was probably hidden for decades underneath all that grime and dirt.

Sold by Kendzia, this still life by the unknown artist fetched 130 000 โ‚ฌ. And yes, I underbid shamefully for this piece which is, most likely, a very unusual, but utterly stunning example of Georg Flegel's work. #Auction #sleepers #OldMaster

So, I am currently staying at my friend's place, and look what she has found in the attic while doing a reno! The label on the frame reads 'Francesco Simonini', but I am more inclined towards Francesco Graziani. What do you think? And does anyone recognises the '123W' stamp?

0/ TEFAF 2024 ART FAIR /// With a great deal of delay, I am finally tweeting my recap of this year @TEFAF . Those who saw me at the fair, know well that I stuck to the very last day of it, despite the fever, illness, and general lack of sleep. Was it worth it? Hell yeah.

1/ In 2021, I recommended to certain someone a little portrait that appeared at Kendzia auction, as a circle of van Dyck. Chronic lack of time prevented me from placing the portrait within the oeuvre of any particular British artist, but the quality was undeniable.

1/ THE ART MARKET: Mercier&Cie ( @auto_cie ) is selling at today's auction a pair of still-lifes, catalogued as a circle of Joris van Son and with a 4 000 - 6 000 โ‚ฌ estimate. My heart skipped a beat when I saw this, as it had a fine composition - despite somewhat crude colouring.

My dear collector went after it, but we didn't manage to secure it. Still, he did put a decent fight against a bigger player... This piece attributed to Pepyn had a 2-5K estimate, but went for 34K instead. Good luck to the buyer... (But... Do I really mean it?)

Attributed to 18th or 19th century Dutch school by @ClarsAuction , this 'Memento Mori' is actually a cropped copy of Jacopo Vignali's 'The Youth and the Death'. Too bad the Death is missing, as it is the most intriguing part of the composition. #oldmaster
