Can we stop calling other specialties “real doctors” when comparing them to pathologists because I did not give up my 20s and learn how to read EKGs to be called “not a real doctor”
Flight Attendant: Is there a pathologist on the plane?
Me: …Yes?
FA: There’s a physician in first class who performed a biopsy two hours ago and is wondering where the path report is
Me:
Three years ago, I laid eyes upon this handsome boy for the first time as he walked up to the restaurant for our first date. It’s been a heck of a ride, but I wouldn’t want to be here with anyone else. 🥰
Happy

y’all.
Pathologists are wild because a lot of our job is deciding that one purple circle is a marginally different shade of purple or has a lil’ squiggle in it, and that means CANCER.
Can we normalize physicians not talking down to staff members (or anyone, for that matter)? I’m tired of having two completely different conversations with clinicians when I answer the phone “Blood bank, this is Matt” vs “Blood bank, this is Dr. Luo”
ExpertPath taught me that the survival rate of mucosal melanoma is ~3-4 years. My dad made it almost two years before he passed on Friday.
Some days, the field of pathology is the coolest thing; others, the burden of knowledge is heavier than the joy of innocence.
RIP 罗建强.
I was bullied a lot as a kid. Growing up Chinese in a white rural town, I would hear “chink” or “go back to China” as I was beaten up. Looking back, I know those were hate crimes. What happened in Atlanta was a hate crime. I’m proud to be Chinese; I’m also afraid.

So “mycosis fungoides” is a form of T-cell lymphoma, not a fungal disease, despite the fact that its etymology is literally “fungus-like fungal disease”

First day back on Surg Path since August, and this is what I find in my box... Five minutes of panic later, I realize that the admins have a great sense of humor

Did I get emotional when Dr. Cox (

Thank you

Loving the fact that this has unofficially become my travel sweater. I just want everyone in this airport to know why I’m flying to New Orleans! Here we go!

Linguistic pearl of the day! The word “apoptosis” is actually pronounced “apo-tosis,” not “apop-tosis,” as it arises from the Greek words apo (“away from”) and ptosis (“falling”).

S: stop car
O: open trunk to get spare tire
H: handle lug nuts w/ wrench to loosen
C: crank car jack to lift car
A: away go lug nuts + flat tire
H: hook on spare + lug nuts
T: take car down from jack
O: on completely the lug nuts (tighten)
A: abracadabra you did it

It is an honor and a privilege to have been booped. Our

priority is preventing the spread of this pandemic. Over 300,000 Americans have died; let’s do everything we can to keep it from getting even higher. Here’s lookin’ at you, herd immunity!

One of the reasons why I love the field of
#pathology
so much is that people can be unabashedly passionate about the silliest things, and pathologists are just the most supportive people about them

My SO’s birthday is tomorrow and to celebrate today and tomorrow, we’re having a multi-day Star Wars marathon starting from Episode I because he’s a mega geek and I love him
I don’t know who needs to hear this but put that piece of fibroadipose tissue down; you’ve found all the lymph nodes. You are enough.

my heart is so full and my conviction is so high that I picked the right field of medicine. So grateful for all of

"When you do testing to that extent, you are going to find more people, you will find more cases. So I said slow the testing down."
—Trump on trying to keep the number of reported COVID cases low
Nothing like grossing a lung, finding caseating granulomas on histology, and realizing nobody ordered TB testing to bring you face-to-face with your own mortality

As I went to open a package I received with a box cutter, a voice in my head automatically began, “Single package received in formalin labeled with patient’s name and MRN. Package is tan-brown...”

said at USCAP2020, “Wouldn’t it be really cool if someone represented path by wearing this

shirt at like, Machu Picchu?” and then I went to Peru the next month and wore the shirt at Machu Picchu. Simpler times...

It’s a MIRACLE. Somehow the stars aligned, and all of our combined efforts were enough to get us on a flight home. Back in the states now and feeling beyond lucky for this twist of fate. HUGE shoutout to

Recently, I’ve been describing myself as carrying around “a baseline level of guilt” at all times... and then I realized. Anxiety. I’m just describing anxiety.
Today marks the 11th anniversary of my coming out. I normally hate tooting my own horn, but honestly, I’m so proud of you, high school me. Your courage set off a sequence of events that led to the person I am today, and I couldn’t be more grateful, for the person I am today. 🏳️🌈🌈
Being on my transfusion rotation means sometimes a surgeon will order 5 units of apheresis platelets, and I have to ask my attending to take care of it because this surgeon’s yelled at me before and now I’m scared of them
A little late, but two thousand thank yous to everyone who got me to 2k followers! I’m so blessed to call all y’all friends; I couldn’t have done it w/o the unconditional love & support from the

Hello everyone! I am so excited to announce my candidacy for your CAP Residents Forum Chair! If you’re an RF Delegate, please consider voting for me at the ‘23 Fall Residents Forum on 10/7!
We residents are not only the future of pathology, but also the backbone of its pipeline.
After many many technical difficulties, I’m on my way (in uniform of course). Here’s looking at you,

Hi everyone friendly reminder that the fight for racial equity isn’t over and we need to continue to support and uplift our BIPOC colleagues because

Racism continues to be a public health crisis even when it stops trending!
“Every tweet…I saw from a pathologist was always so happy and fun and ‘Look at this cool thing I saw!’ And all the other pathologists were just like ‘Yayyy that’s such a cool thing!’…pathologists, just a breath of fresh air.”

Took my first sick day of residency today, and I’m struggling a lot with the guilt of taking a day off. I’m cognitively aware that it’s a toxic ideal, but emotionally, I can’t help but believe these things ingrained in us since the beginning of our medical training…
