Pre-Covid, if a student was ill and expected to be off for more than a day or two, teachers had to create a package of work covering the time, to go home by the end of the day. Then we all learned how to teach remotely. Suddenly, students have to be in the room to learn. Why? 1/2

386 experts studying Covid in 112 countries came to a consensus on what needs to be done to END Covid. Can we please bend to their collective wisdom?? 100% - Covid is airborne; indoor drives transmission 97% - vax alone won't end Covid 96% - N95 masks ARE necessary 1/2

Pre-Covid, I've successfully taught kids with GAD who could rarely come in. Since we're doing little to stop the spread of Covid, then we need to redesign education to account for multiple ongoing illnesses and for brain damage. THIS is learning to live with Covid. 2/2

Can we at least get rid of the narrative that wearing a mask or not wearing a mask are equally valid choices. That's like saying driving drunk or sober are equal choices when one clearly has a much greater potential to cause harm.

90% - public health has pushed false info (hand washing over masks; vax only) Vaccines work to prevent severity more than to prevent transmission. N95s prevent most transmission. Spread facts, not Covid. #BringBackMasks 2/2

Saying you're tired of wearing masks and this has to end, misses that the problem is the virus, not the masks. It's like being tired of shovelling in February and refusing to do it anymore. Snow doesn't stop because you refuse to shovel. Keep your masks on - all the way on!!

@JennaACunninham If we're not going to protect against the virus, we need to *completely* rethink education - not just add to the teacher's workload, which was done in the past (sometimes scrambling to copy my notes and handouts for someone in the 5 minutes between classes to hand in on time).

Seeing kids without masks in school is like watching them play with matches, and not being allowed to even suggest it's a problem. Many will be fine, but many will get burned and could light the house on fire. They should NOT be learning this lesson through trial & error.

We're placating people who want to come to school and stores without a mask "like normal," but are completely ignoring the feelings and real fears of the people who are now wary of entering these building because they don't want to get a brain-invasive virus. Make it make sense.

N95s are actually way more comfortable and breathable than surgical masks; they don't move on your face, slip around, or fold into your mouth when you talk, and you can covertly stick your tongue out at people. If you really hate masks, you might just be wearing the wrong kind.

Had we kept masks, "we could be looking at roughly 4.4 million fewer infected by Omicron, 2,300 fewer Omicron deaths, 230,000 fewer long covid cases &... fewer child respiratory illnesses that are currently overwhelming children’s hospitals."

Van Kerkhove: "The virus is rampant. We're still in a pandemic. There's a lot of complacency at the individual level, more concerning, at the government level....Disinformation that's out there is hampering the ability to mount an effective response. 1/2

@2closetocall When will you stop wearing a seatbelt? In Canada, Covid is killing ten times as many people as auto accidents, so if we should ditch masks, then we should definitely get rid of seatbelts.

Thanks so much for all the support over my campaign -- to everyone who canvassed with me and for me, who took a sign for their lawn, who donated, and all those who voted! I look forward to working hard for you over the next four years.

We just finished model updates for this week's COVID Forecast. By waste water or our model, daily infections in Canada are now as high/higher than prior Omicron peaks except Dec/21 wave. High risk people need shots ASAP, wear N95 masks, avoid non-essential indoor activities.

Today would be a great day for the NACI to approve booster shots for 12-17s who are 6-7 months past dose 2. If you forget about our teens, they won't forget when it's their turn to vote!! (Ok, they might, but let's protect them anyway!) @GovCanHealth @CPHO_Canada @JustinTrudeau

Consider wearing a mask as the hospitals overflow. Maybe universities could require masks for exams to protect students. We need mandated masks wherever people HAVE to be inside a public building. @UWaterloo @Laurier @ConestogaC

Free Tip: The UK got this variant first, and they're having to close schools now. Remember that lockdown you hate so much?? We can be proactive and mandate masks NOW to PREVENT closures!!! Well-fitting masks really work to reduce spread, and N95s are comfortable for all-day use!

@dee_ess_2 The "just wear a mask if you want to" crowd is oblivious to the difference between risk with 1-way masking vs 2-way masking. Unfortunately, they're in charge. Hope she gets well soon with no lingering effects. I'm so sorry this happened to your family!! #VoteThemAllOut2022

No ambulances in Waterloo, no room for sick kids in Toronto, yet so many still won't wear a simple mask to reduce the spread of this virus. A critical number of people need a mandate or will outright refuse to make the right choice. #BringBackMasks @ROWPublicHealth @fordnation

It feels like it's nobody's responsibility to ensure we have clean air in public buildings. So, couldn't @JustinTrudeau fund clean air initiatives directly instead of giving $$ for healthcare to provinces knowing it hasn't been used appropriately in the past??? #CleanAir

Vaccinations reduce the chance of severe illness, but you can still get and spread Covid even if fully vax'd AND end up in the hospital. We need to MASK, vax, and ventilate to have any hope of reducing transmission. Don't accept the new normal giving us a shorter lifespan. 3/3

The risk of getting Covid in Ontario is at the SEVERE level. Please #BringBackMasks - Wear an N95 wherever people aren't allowed to smoke. It's a basic courtesy to avoid spreading this virus. 31% of cases are asymptomatic, so you can feel great and still have it and spread it!

@janrode59 I don't at all support doing this, but it does show how differently we react to different risks. One is a risk to about 5% of people, causing 82 Ontario deaths in the last 25 years but has immediate effects. The other is a risk to everyone and caused 68 Ontario deaths this week.
