I am the Chief Meteorologist at WDRB in Louisville, KY. I love weather and I am blessed to share my passion on TV. My tweets are my own opinions.

I just wanted to update everyone on a significant change for X (Twitter). Most TV Stations (I assume all) can no longer push any content to Twitter through our weather systems. No updates. No watches. And the most concerning is no warnings. No severe t-storm warnings, no flash…
When I started working in TV 25 years ago, I was told, as the new person, that I had to work every holiday. It was explained to me that you have to earn holidays off through seniority. The reality is that I am a person and I never got to spend time with my family during the…
Lewis Marks took this amazing pic of the downtown

area as we prep for Thunder Over Louisville. Our city is brilliant!!!

This is one of the GREATEST “moon rising over city of Louisville” photos I have ever seen. Exceptional work on this photo taken and sent to me by Duke Marsh!!! Incredible!
After 22 years as a professional Meteorologist, we finally have confirmation that there IS a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. That is the Ft. Knox gold vault at the bast of this rainbow.
Just to be forthcoming with a busy week coming… if you choose to be rude or hateful then you will be blocked or muted. I really don’t deserve to be treated poorly by people with nothing better to do than troll the guy trying to help.
It is hard for me to put this into words sometimes, but we appreciate you trusting us during these intense storms. We are so grateful you choose us and we sincerely hope we make a difference.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone in this community for trusting me for almost 2 decades. You have allowed me to do what I was born to do. I am so grateful.
Last night I drove about 200 miles total to get into one of the darkest skies in Kentucky. My goal... Capture the Milky Way Galaxy. It was a huge success! The skies were completely clear and I got some of my best night pics EVER! Here is

More pics to come through the day.
For the record, I am not going to stop explaining the science behind the 7 day. That is who I am and that is what I do. I know my style is not for everyone, but I am blessed that so many do enjoy that style in our area. Each one of you that support me allow me to do what I love.

moves over the town. This is how fast storm surges occur. They are violent and you have zero time to react.
Its funny how some people are so quick to make awful comments to meteorologists, but then delete the tweet the second we call them out. We are not your punching bag.
It has been frustrating encountering people during the Coronavirus pandemic that won't respect your choice to socially distance yourself. Its like it angers them when you ask them to respect the space. Don't I have a right to protect myself as I see fit?
@HuntersWx
We must all make sure people understand what is happening. They as customers ultimately have the loudest voice. If they want those warnings here, they should make their voice known.
When I first started in this business, I had to work every holiday. I was told that is just the way it works when you are the new one. It wasn't fun.
I promised myself that if I was ever in a position to lead, I would never do that to my team. Treating people well is a choice.
Last night was a very special night. Officer Nick Wilt, our hero from the Old National Bank tragedy, was honored by LMPD for his heroic acts. Officer Wilt received the Purple Heart and the Medal of Honor to a standing ovation by everyone in attendance. Nick put the lives of…
Officer Nickolas Wilt, a new officer to the LMPD, ran towards the gunfire today to save lives. He remains in critical condition after being shot in the head.
Today, Kentucky Living announced their “Best In Kentucky” winners. Their readers voted me as winner of the “Best In Kentucky” in the Meteorologist category! Kentucky has multiple TV markets including Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, and Paducah, so this really means a lot to…
Unbelievable video of a tree falling in the Iroquois Park part of Louisville on Inverness Ave. You can see the massive tree just crushes the home. Unreal.

I introduce you to my greatest image to date as an amateur astrophotographer. This is the Western Veil Nebula (NGC 6960) and a project for me that spanned over a month. The Western Veil was created by a star that went supernova about 5,000 - 8,000 years ago.

I DID IT!!! I drove about 30 miles north of Louisville to image Comet Neowise tonight and it put on a show!!! Look how long the tail is on Neowise! That was AWESOME!!!
I will just put this out there...
If we do have to cut-in to programming tonight, don't be the selfish person to tweet a meteorologist complaining your programming is more important than your neighbor's lives.
Just saying.
@HuffmanHeadsUp
The real danger is that it is just gone. For those that did use this platform to either get those warnings or get more info, we need them to know the change. We don’t want them finding out in the moment a severe storm or tornado is bearing down on their house.
Personally, I…
Something worth stating...
@WDRBNews
cares enough about its employees that they gave all of us off Christmas Day. I have worked in this business for nearly 25 years and never seen this. That is pure quality. Treat people well and there is nothing they won't do in return.
18 years ago today, I started as a 29 year old Meteorologist at
@WDRBNews
. Honestly, I am still as excited to work here today, and be a part of this community, as I was in 2004. Thank you for always embracing me. You have forever changed my life.
Just to be clear, there is nothing that can be done to prep the roads prior to this Winter Storm. You cannot brine nor can you salt because the 1" of rain tomorrow will wash every bit of it away. Understand that there is no way to pre-treat.
😮 An absolutely spectacular capture of the Full Sturgeon Moon tonight rising over the city of

People ask me frequently why I stopped Storm Chasing full time within a few months after I was on the David Letterman show in December of 1998. The answer is May 3, 1999 happened and I watched an EF-5 go into the town next to mine. Where many of my friends lived. Where people I…
BREAKING NEWS... We are getting many reports of a strange yellow orb in the sky. It is something that no one has really seen in over a week. My sources tell me the orb is something called the sun, but I haven't ruled out aliens yet. We have our best people investigating what…
I am not going to lie, I love being able to mute and block the people that lack the control to act like civil human beings on social media. I still cannot imagine how boring your life must be to troll a Meteorologist trying to help you.
If you would have told me a year ago that we would be 10-2 after the UK game, then I would have been ecstatic. Honestly, the loss hurt today, but the turn around from last year is unreal. The future is so much brighter with Jeff Brohm here.

The more I mature as a meteorologist, the more I realize the race to be the "first" to forecast snow / ice totals is a guarantee fail. Even at a range of 60 hrs, computer model data for ice/snow accumulation is utter trash. I mean literally garbage.
Why not try to get it right?
The stress of the last 4 months has been rough. You can just feel it literally in everything you do & everywhere you go now. Everywhere you turn online, there are people fighting & arguing. Even the simplest things turn into a knock down, drag out battle. 2020 has been hard.
Everyone across the US was talking about the red colors on the bottom of the sun during the eclipse. This was a notable solar prominence and captured incredibly well by Jared Greene from Patoka Lake. Amazing day!!!
#SolarEclipse2024
The ice on the trees can be so damaging, but under the right light can make some of the most remarkable photos. That is a spectacular image of the sun setting in Milton, IN tonight captured and shared with me by Kara Turner. 😮
I will never understand why someone drives in the left lane *below* the speed limit with 10 cars lined up behind them trying to pass. It makes zero sense to me. Why not just move to the right lane?
Am I the only one bothered by this?
I had a cool idea. How about no negativity on social media for Thanksgiving? Positive comments. No trolling. No hatred. Let's focus on being kind & thankful. Social media has become such a volcano for negativity. Maybe we can buck the trend even if it is just for one day.
Tough, tough season for UofL basketball comes to an end today. As a big UofL fan, this has been a tough couple of years. I honestly haven't felt this detached from basketball in 20 years.
Well that was quite the 24 hours of weather. We have seen 20 tornado warnings in our area since 7 am. A lot of people were affect by some pretty ugly weather today.
This has been quite a challenging day for a lot in this community and we appreciate you allowing us to help.
19 years ago, I came to Louisville and WDRB not knowing what to expect. I could have never imagined the support this community would show me. Each day has been a honor and I am looking forward to many more!
I am going to give your bigoted, anti-Semitic comment a RT in the hopes that MANY will see it. In my 2 decades in this business, your comment may be the rudest I have ever received.
Since this person decided to delete the tweet, I have included the screen shot.
I would like to place a vote for discontinuing Daylight Saving Time permanently. I would rather just stay normal time year round. The late sunsets are cool and all, but the crazy late sunrises in Winter are simply not feasible. DST year round would equal a sunrise at 9 am on 1/3.
That is an absolutely BRILLIANT storm pic from Marion county, KY this evening. It just feels like it represents what storm season is like in Kentucky and Indiana. I love this!

DOW has a chemical plant in Midland, MI on the Tittabawassee River which is downstream of the Edenville, MI dam failure. Google Earth lists the plant about 40 feet higher than normal river level. Hopefully that is enough. Forecast brings the river about 24 feet above pool.
This may be one of the greatest night skyline pictures I have ever seen of our amazing city. You have a spectacular view of Louisville with the Milky Way Galaxy visible over the skyline. Nature can remind us what beauty means.
Aroun Kesavaraj sent new this remarkable picture.
I captured the greatest image I have ever captured of Jupiter!!! Look at the detail and notice the incredible Great Red Spot!! I also got the volcanic moon Io in frame!! YES!!!!
It is becoming harder and harder to get on social media. I have never seen so much negativity and pure hatred in my life. I am not sure social media is the cause, but it sure seems to be the way it is expressed.
Funny thing is the trolls are still sitting in front of their keyboards or phones sending rude messages and wasting their time not knowing they have been muted. LOL
While I was on vacation for the last 2 weeks, I had an opportunity to visit the remarkable state of Alaska. I saw more beauty that I can put into words. Over the course on the next week, I am going to share with you some of my favorite experiences. Tonight, I start with Matanuska…
I feel like I don't even care about the NCAA tourney this year. Like I don't care if I watch a game. Maybe that is because this was such an off season for the Cards. Others feeling this way?
