The MPSSAA in consultation with the
State Superintendent of Schools, the MD Department of Health, and the Public School
Superintendent Association of Maryland has postponed the 2020 high school fall and
winter competition season during the first semester.
The Maryland State Board of Education approved a request for local school systems (LSS) to start winter sports on December 7, 2020. All LSSs are strongly encouraged to start conditioning opportunities immediately. Initial information can be found at

At today's meeting, the State Board of Education approved our request for waivers to some of the athletic regulations in COMAR. This provides flexibility to our 24 local school systems as we all work towards the return of high school sports.
MPSSAA releases the Roadmap for the Return of Interscholastic Athletics. The roadmap is designed to provide guidance for LSS to resocialize students in athletics and activities in a safe and controlled environment.

Once those Frederick Cadets got into their rhythm, there was no looking back during the Class 4A title game. The Walt Whitman Vikings worked incredibly hard to try to chip away, but at the final buzzer, Frederick remained on top to take home the crown for the 1st time since 1982.
The MPSSAA appreciates our spring sport directors and committees, coaches, athletic directors, and county athletic supervisors that assisted in making these spring state championships possible for our student-athletes!

After an extremely competitive back and forth game, the Largo Lions pulled away in the 4th and took a commanding lead. When it was all said and done, they defeated the Carver Vo-Tech Bears 66-52 to take home their first state championship since 2008 in the Class 2A game.

Did someone chant "UNDEFEATED"? And with a 27-0 record, the Hammond Golden Bears won their 4th state title in girls basketball (first since 1995). They pulled away in the 4th and never relinquished the lead again. They beat the Francis Scott Key Eagles 65-46 in the Class 2A game.
Give it up for the Richard Montgomery Rockets who took the Class 4A Girls Volleyball State Championship, their first title in the sport. They defeated the Leonardtown Raiders 3-1.

Wow, what a game! Just when you thought Oakdale had it in the bag, up 42-21 in the 4th, Linganore battles back to pull within 7 with 1:25 remaining. The Bears thwarted an onside kick attempt & sealed the victory over the Lancers with a final score of 42-35 in the Class 3A final.
