TOP 50 BEST METAL SONGS 2023 🔥
365 Days of actively trying to find the best of the best in heavy music so here's a huge list of BANGERS.
I also let the music play so you can hear the songs yourself. You're bound to discover something new.
Even if you hate Sleep Token's sound you can't deny the fact that having a 6 minute long progressive metal song go viral is HUGE for the metal scene.
As someone who's been vocal about wanting less songs with "verse-chorus-verse-chorus-breakdown-chorus", wanting more
@metalshellmedia
Also:
A 6 and a half minute prog-metal song with abnormal structure, technical, erratic double bass breakdowns and eclectic genre-bending sections went viral and is about to surpass over 100 million on Spotify.
But metal fans are mad about that. Lol
Genre blending and non metal collabs is the next step to put metal into the masses. Elitists are the ones holding metal back from being more successful.
Why do metalheads begin to hate bands as soon as they find success?… They always begin by loving the underdog until they become a top dog in the scene. Why not respect both? There’s a mindset that needs to change.
May 2023 will go down as one of the best months for heavy music ever
- Sleep Token
- Veil Of Maya
- Make Them Suffer
- Aviations
- Johnny Booth
- Polaris
- Karmanjakah
- Blessthefall
- Cattle Decapitation
- Currents
- Amity Affliction
- Breakk.away
- BMTH
- The Acacia Strain
People are saying Beartooth’s self love lyrics are cringe yet I think it’s much less cringe than the “undertows” “feed me to the wolves” “watch the world burn” cliché lyrics that plague the scene 🤷🏻♂️
Remember when Sleep Token went unintentionally viral with 6 minute long songs that had non cookie cutter structures? We need more of that and less metal bands writing generic Octanecore forcing themselves to get some radio airplay.
RIP to a legend. One of the best guitarists to grace the scene, so young too… I used to watch his guitar covers back in the day on YouTube before his days in Polaris… man it’s a sad day for the scene.
Ryan’s family, band mates and friends have my deepest condolences ❤️

I hated crowd surfers and moshers when I first went to shows. Then I began to understand and embrace the culture. Now I’m in the pit, helping people crowd surf and when others are having a good time, I’m having a good time too. Don’t like it? Then move to the side or stay home.
Love how Noah let Poppy take over vocal duty on the new Bad Omens track. Lead singer syndrome doesn’t apply to Noah and never thought it did. Just respect the guy even more now.
My 1st block. Guess my comment stroke a nerve… Good, shows his cowardice. I try to stay positive online but some a-holes need to be put in their place. Using death as content for validating your agenda and to grow your social media presence with barely any research is pure scum.
Bands that don’t stick to a single genre and encourage other genres into their music are always the most defining bands in the scene but they also can help create new sub genres too. We need more “genreless” bands
Northlane, Alpha Wolf, Bad Omens (possibly), Landmvrks, Invent Animate, Oceans Ate Alaska (teaser) all in less than a week?
Metalcore is off to a great start in 2024
Tens of thousands of people waiting in queue for Sleep Token tickets and a ton of metal tours with venues being sold out??
I think metal is on the uptick and kicking ass lately, just need to work on the supply & demand.
Love Fantano and I respect his opinion but again I don’t trust his metal reviews. If it’s not mathcore he’s probably not going to like it. Metal is getting more grand and well produced, the nitty gritty days are gone. There’s many reasons why this band is blowing up atm.
Bad Omens should add concert safety tips and etiquette after every ticket purchase. The amount of concert newbies who don’t know how to stay hydrated and or stay away from the pit is shocking
I’m seeing people are who not vibing out to Take Me Back To Eden too much wanted more breakdowns…. Which I get and can relate a bit tbh but ST crushes when they tackle other genres and they’re pulling in a lot of non metal listeners. For that alone I think TMBTE is special.
“Good art should start a conversation”…. Well this Alpha Wolf artwork is creating a whole lot of conversation so I say good job on the bold choice.
I personally dig the 90s nu-metal throwback style, yet it feels refreshing in the metalcore space.
This dude creates positive content by making Reggae covers to famous songs so wtf is wrong with Twitter and people retweeting this and saying” Bring back public executions”?? Twitter is so damn toxic and negative (also talentless). Go touch some grass.
@machinegunkelly
I actually don’t mind your music man, I find it catchy and if you get more ppl into punk that’s a plus in my books. It’s more majority of my followers doesn’t like your music is what I meant at the beginning.
But this guitar ain’t it imo. The pink one is badass but the razor
I’m excited to share that I’ve officially been invited to London to see Sleep Token and HEALTH at Wembley Arena!!! I plan on filming a bunch of content so stay tuned for some cool updates as this Canadian explores the United Kingdom!
I'm done being nice to labels or even some bands this year. I and many others who do what we do have proven our value to the music community and helped give free exposure to so many artists.
In 2024 my goal is to monetize every single one of my videos and if a label won't
Silent Planet is one of the main bands pushing the envelope of metalcore music. Antimatter is a risk that’s needed so kudos to the band for making another banger.
Northlane “Dante” is not heavy metalcore and doesn’t need to be. Not everything needs a breakdown in the core scene and it’s okay to have some more dancey songs. I can also see Northlane helping people get into the metal genre especially edm fans.
I'm so glad Boundaries is getting recognized in the scene... It looks like there's a need for authentically brutal pissed off music that doesn't need pitch shifters, vocal gymnastics and effects to make the music heavy.
January has been quiet for music as expected but is there a band out there that wants to drop two new songs out of nowhere on a Thursday and Friday?… It worked extremely well last year for a certain band.
Disgusting heavy ass breakdowns are cool but I feel like metalheads this year are subconsciously thinking what else can you do? We can only hear a To The Hellfire like breakdown so many times before needing something different.
Saw Ryan from Fit For A King make this post on Reddit and thought this was really cool.
Directly asking your fanbase what you like, getting some feedback to help direct you for your next record. It could even help make the fans feel more involved.
Good job FFAK 👏🏼
Too many people focus on the vocal aspect of the band and forget how crucial the instrumentals are to the music's identity. They worry when a vocalist gets replaced. Newest example is Crystal Lake and another one was Lorna Shore when they dropped CJ. Stop overlooking songwriters.
It’d be a missed opportunity if Lorna Shores next record didn’t have some experimentation with cleans from Will Ramos. Especially after his Sleep Token covers, the dude has range.
I went to emo night last night and they played The Killers and everyone was raging and moshing, then they put on Underoath - Writing On The Walls and I was the only one in the pit… I’m disappointed in my city
2024 is off to a great start with two rock icons in their own spaces coming together. This shows a sense of community and wanting to collaborate with others. So sick 👏🏼
I'm deleting Twitter or X off my phone. I never leave this app in a good mood. It's either people fighting over politics, seeing violent shit I don't want to see and let's be real, a shit ton of porn too.
I want to focus and I don't want this app always trying to gain my
Music Reactors should do their best to help out the underground bands too because they’re the future of the scene. Only featuring big bands to grow your popularity is too self-serving.
Just got Sleep Token “Take Me Back To Eden” in my emails… to listen in advance for an album review or to livestream each single when the albums drops… that is the question… but the anticipation is KILLING me lol
What is your AOTY??
It’s that time of year and 2023 was STACKED. I’ll argue it was one of the best years ever for metal and I’ll die on that hill.
Now since we’ve had some time to soak it in, marinate with all the juicy breakdowns. What is your true AOTY?
Prog is going to make a comeback this year. Sleep Token, Periphery and hopefully The Contortionist, Tesseract, Aviations drop their albums too. If so… then 2023 will be the year of prog.
I respect Melons criticisms, they’re valid. Doesn’t mean he’s right, it’s all preference and what you seek in music. Music is so incredibly subjective, everything he dislikes are the reasons why I like the album. But let the ppl decide what’s good and not what a select few think.
Can we stop saying bands are overrated in the scene. It’s very hard for bands to break through and once they do they’re considered “overrated” mainly cause your fav band hasn’t broke through yet. We should instead celebrate bands blowing up and wish the same success for all bands
