Like so many people I’ve been deeply disturbed by
#saraheverard
’s story, followed this week by so many harrowing tales from other women. I’ve written for
@BirdwatchExtra
@BirdGuides
on how we can all make women safer in wild places
Father: I look at your lawn and all I see is a carpet of weeds.
Me: Well all my three-year-old daughter sees is a carpet of wishes.
Father: 😳
Me: 😎

One million starlings murmurating above Melton Mowbray 😍 expand for full effect 😭 Sorry for appalling camera work - a child swinging on my arm and I was crying a bit 🙈 never thought I’d see this so close to home or this year 💚
@LeicsWildlife
@BBCLeicester
@ITVCentral
I love what
#rednoseday
stands for, but it breaks my heart how much of it is based on promoting plastic, single-use tat, that ultimately we don’t need...
Hey
@McDonaldsUK
- bit rubbish that your staff wouldn’t take a reusable coffee cup because ‘they weren’t trained to do it’. Manager rolled eyes at me for asking. You can do better. Merry Xmas!
It’s the cover of my first ever book - and it’s so beautiful 😍

Birders, birdwatchers and bird lovers - if the below extracts make your skin crawl (as they do mine), please instead buy the January edition of
@BirdwatchExtra
- I’ve worked with the team to edit an entire issue dedicated to celebrating women’s contributions to wildlife x
Just found out I’m on Channel 4 TONIGHT at the end of the 7pm news talking about women’s safety out in nature with
@Lucy_Lapwing
🙈💚 a prerecord from a few weeks inspired in part by the piece I wrote for
@BirdGuides
on making women welcome and safe in birding 🐦🦆🐣🦅🦉🕊🦢🦜
This heartbreaking footage was filmed in North Norfolk by
@NorfolkBea
. It shows a Sand Martin repeatedly trying to return to it’s nest site, which has been covered in netting by
@NorthNorfolkDC
💔😢
Stunned, shocked, privileged and heartbroken in equal measure. We were called today as Marine Mammal Medics to a “harbour porpoise” stranded at Bar Point on St Mary’s. When we got there with help from
@ScillyWildlife
, what we found was quite different - a striped dolphin 🧵
If you want to show support for the NHS, this is not the way. These are a fire hazard, hugely damaging to wildlife and can distress livestock. Clap, donate your money to charity, but if you love people and wildlife, please don’t waste it on this literal rubbish 🤦🏻♀️🙏
All spring the eaves of our house have been occupied by a starling nest and now they’ve fledged and we’ve just had F*<€%$G SWIFTS scouting it out and if they nest there I will explode with happiness 😭😭😍😍🐦🐦
TWITTER REQUEST. First saw
@M_Z_Harrison
say this years ago and couldn’t agree more. If you’re sharing photos of wildlife and nature, name the species in your tweets and posts!! It’s a great learning opportunity for others and stops our community from seeming elitist 💚☀️🐚
Calling all bird and wildlife watchers and photographers - could I borrow your collective brain? As part of a project, I’m running a survey that looks at consumer habits of wildlife watchers - optics, cameras, reading, television, campaigns and causes 1/2
“To make birding a safe place for women, bad behaviour needs calling out by peers. Men have the power to hold their male friends to account. Speak up, report it, challenge it”.
📢 SWIFT EXPERTS 📢 a while ago I tweeted that swifts were prospecting our loft space as a nest site. Well now - in mid-August 🥵🤭! - they have chicks… 🤯 (can hear them from the bedroom). Does anyone else still have nesting swifts?! What is going on?! (And YAY 💪)

Meet our inspiring winners - and the Nature Writers of the future! Danielle Amouzoe-Akue (14), Anna Stone (10) and Benjamin Fallow (6) - meet them and read their stories here (tissues at the ready 😭♥️🥰🌺🌳🦡🌼)
Here’s a sneak preview of
#365DaysWild
- how to make room for nature every day of the year ♥️ so thrilled - have accomplished my childhood dream of writing a book 🤫🌺🐝🐬🌳🥰

This year’s Christmas project was hand-painting gin, wine and Prosecco glasses as gifts. It was lots of fun coming up with classy designs that were also within my very limited capabilities. Each one was personal, but not necessarily well executed 😂🌸🌺🌻🐋

My tweeting abilities have dropped dramatically over the last few months. Instead, I’m working for
@ScillyWildlife
and running their channels on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as well as
@scillybirds
. Talking incessantly about wildlife in the best place in the world? Yes pls 🙏
Sand Martins are one of the many species that you should be proud to support, encourage and embrace as part of your natural and cultural heritage. You have a chance to do the right thing, immediately. Please remove it, and put nature at the heart of your strategy 🌳🐞🐝🐦🦋🦀💛
<tweet I’ll regret, but…> Seeing so much twitcher-bashing from an audience who don’t understand it/partake in it. That’s fine, but why the need to criticise? 1/4
Thank you all for lovely birthday messages. The day started with thunder, then assisting with the ringing of this beautiful peregrine. Deeming that she was just very skinny and weak (not bird flu), she was picked up on St Agnes over a week ago 🧵1/3

Starting to see the appeal of dawn on a spring day... this very crappy iPhone photo is a House Martin flying back to his nest outside our bedroom window. They’re chirping away to each other like mad

Unbearably proud to have worked with
@BirdwatchExtra
on the next issue of Birdwatch magazine, which celebrates female voices in ornithology and conservation 💚💪 I’ve worked with some amazing women in the process - thank you to you all xx
