Last elected Mayor of Lpool
Being Mayor of Liverpool has been the greatest honour of my life.
It’s a role I never aspired to, but I stepped up during an incredibly difficult time for our city.
For the remainder of my term, I'll be delivering transformations to services to set a balanced budget.
The civic buildings in Liverpool lit up tonight to celebrate me becoming the first black woman to be directly elected mayor in the UK.
Liverpool has always been a city of firsts. I am proud of our city ✊🏾🌹
Disgusted by appalling management & brutal treatment of
@LFC
fans by French police & Stade De France staff
@ChampionsLeague
final. I'm writing to Foreign Sec
@trussliz
requesting answers from
@UEFAcom

@EmmanuelMacron
to investigate. Shameful to pin blame on fans.
Today, you elected me as your Mayor of Liverpool. It will be the honour of my life to serve this city.
This is the beginning of a fresh start for our city - I won’t let you down.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you 🌹❤️
People often ask me who I support, Everton or Liverpool. The truth is, I couldn’t care less about football - but I do love Jurgen Klopp.
Congratulations to Jurgen on receiving the highest honour a city can bestow, Freedom of the City.
Truly deserved 👏🏾
Losing World Heritage Site status is a sad day for Liverpool, but what has made me angry is that my video statement has been used by The S*n. I did not - and would not - give them permission to use the video, and am instructing them to take it down.
Wonderful to see Jurgen Klopp awarded Freedom of the City tonight!
He has always championed Liverpool, stood up for us & been fiercely loyal to the city.
He won our hearts & we adopted him as one of our own💗
Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram.
Please attend your screening when invited, or see your GP if you’re concerned.
It really can mean the difference between life & death.

Today, we saw the unveiling of Liverpool’s first slavery plaque, recognising our city’s slavery history - a project two years in the making.
A truly historic moment for our city 👏🏾
Absolutely brilliant show of support from
#Liverpool
at today's protest.
We are a proud, welcoming and inclusive city and I will continue to support our

A special and historic day being officially sworn in as the Mayor of Liverpool - the city I love. It is the honour of my life.
The hard work starts now.

A truly special and historic moment for our city.

LIVERPOOL is officially the fan favourite to host Eurovision 2023.
Music is the lifeblood of Liverpool. The people, communities and businesses of this city would embrace the fantastic chaos of this global music event.
Over to you,
@Eurovision
!
It is estimated that the five-day
@UKLabour
conference brought 12,500 delegates to Liverpool and generated an estimated £20m in economic benefit for the city.
The conference will be returning to Liverpool in 2023, and we look forward to hosting.
Liverpool is a city that's made for Eurovision.
Our people, businesses and communities are ready to embrace the fantastic chaos of this European spectacle.
For, and with, Ukraine.
Let's do this,
@Eurovision
💙💛
Delighted that Liverpool’s groundbreaking (quite literally!) subterranean super bins are getting the credit they deserve.
Liverpool is the first city in the UK to roll-out a scheme that will eventually benefit 27,000 households

@BBCOne
It’s official! Liverpool has made the shortlist for

There’s nowhere that can throw a party like Liverpool & it would be an enormous honour to host this in solidarity with Ukraine.
Let’s do this Liverpool!🎶
Absolutely delighted
#Liverpool
has made the final two for the
#Eurovision2023
shortlist.
Nowhere throws a party quite like us. The people, communities & businesses of our city are ready to put on a show - for Ukraine, the UK & for Europe.
Eurovision in Liverpool. Imagine 💛💙
I am so proud to be selected as
@Labour
's candidate for Mayor of Liverpool.
For those of you who don't know me, I am a proud, black, working-class scouser, who loves our city and its people.
Now, it's time to get to work. Let's make history.
#Joanne4Mayor
In Liverpool we strive for social justice and equality. These values are the product of our experiences and are deeply in contrast to the right wing lies of the S*n.
@UKLabour
should never work with this paper.
We are deeply offended.

With every day that passes since Paris, the echoes of

What a fantastic morning visiting
@EvertonStadium
, the future home of
@Everton
, and an exciting part of our city's future.
This isn't just a stadium, it's a significant regeneration project that will create thousands of jobs & help breathe new life into one of our communities.
Well done and a massive congratulations to Claire McColgan CBE, our culture team, staff, stakeholders and new CEX who have worked so hard for months to pull off this Eurovision bid. So proud of you 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This photo was taken by chance at an event over a year ago.
This week, we all won our individual campaigns, with me as City Mayor,
@MetroMayorSteve
as Metro Mayor &
@emilyspurrell
as Police & Crime Commissioner.
Looking forward to working together to take our region forward 👏🏾
A historic moment as the new Mayor of Liverpool, Joanne Anderson signs the declaration for her new office
She becomes the first black female leader of a major UK city
The start of work at Bramley-Moore Dock will be a symbolic moment for
@Everton
& marks a major milestone in reshaping the future of the poorest ward in
#Liverpool
which will drive our economy forward.
And we should all applaud the club’s £50m heritage programme too 👏🏾 ⬇️
A key date in the history of Everton Football Club is set! 📆
26 July 2021. The Club takes possession of the Bramley-Moore Dock site. 🔵
On the same day, contractors
@Laing_ORourke
will begin the first phase of the construction project for our new stadium! 🏟
9-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel was shot dead in her home - the place that she should feel safest.
Words cannot describe this abhorrent act of evil.
Liverpool has a history of strength & solidarity. We must work together to bring those responsible for this atrocity to justice.
The most beautiful thing about music is its power to transcend all borders and boundaries.
In the midst of the darkness happening in the world, Eurovision represents light, hope, joy and most importantly, unity💗
I want to send a message of support to all those who share feelings of sadness and grief in Ava White’s death. I know these feelings will extend across our city. I will do all in the coming days and weeks to address the concerns and worries our residents will understandably have.

The truth comes at you fast
The mindless damage over the weekend to the Eleanor Rigby statue saddens me deeply.
Culturally and socially, this beautiful work of art means so much to Liverpool.
Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage to see if we can identify the culprits.
Shocked and ashamed is how I feel too. I will get in touch with
@merpolchiefcon
to find out if they have the perpetrators. These shocking homophobic and violent crimes disgust me. No to hate in our city.
The people of our city did everything that was asked of them during the pandemic. They kept their distance and adapted their lives to protect loved ones. We tested and we led the way on recovery. We are infuriated with the lies. The party is over
@BorisJohnson

Congratulations all, especially our very own Mayor Joanne 👏
So proud that Liverpool has launched the country's first underground bins.
Carrying up to 5000 litres of waste, these bins will be installed in 90 locations over 2 years in a £1.5m scheme to reduce black bag waste in the city.

The images we are seeing from Afghanistan are truly heart breaking. Women and men are living in fear of their lives. Along with the rest of the world, the UK must play its part in helping – and Liverpool stands ready to assist.
The final episode of

airs tonight. Anne never gave up the fight for justice for the 97 fans who were unlawfully killed. Our city will always remember. We need a

Thank you so much to Labour Party members for selecting me as their candidate for Mayor of Liverpool. I want to also thank my amazing team of volunteers who have worked for this result. Lets move forward together as one.

The normalisation of violence against women in the British press is abhorrent and deeply disturbing. Fantasising about stripping a woman naked & pelting her is unhinged behaviour.
This is an open display of sexism, racism & misogyny and proves every point Meghan Markle has made.
Days after Markle’s open about hateful, abusive media making her suicidal & terrified for her safety, Clarkson writes about how he hates her more than Rose West, a serial killer, and imagines her forced naked and pelted with human faeces.
Men like him in the media are deeply 1/
In the wake of today’s tragic incident

The impact on the hospital will continue for at least another 24 hours, affecting appointments and visitors.

It takes a tremendous about of work behind the scenes to deliver the ‘best Eurovision ever’. Thank you to the staff at
@lpoolcouncil
who had the ambition, drive and commitment to deliver it so spectacularly. A week that will long live in the hearts of scousers.
#Eurovision2023
I got some insight tonight, into the person and leader that Jurgen Klopp is.
It is telling that he credits the people around him for his success. There was much love and respect from those who call him the gaffer.

Today we applaud the families of
#Ballymurphy
for their determination and dignity over the past 50 years. 50! Heartbreaking.
I’m yet to understand what relevance this information has to Nicola Bulley going missing.
We don’t have the full facts yet. This is an invasion of privacy and a shameful narrative that attempts to victim blame a woman for her own disappearance.
Delighted to formally welcome the heads of

Representatives of all 37 competing nations gathered at The Spine to hear our final plans for Eurovision 2023.
Exciting times ahead! 💫

A penalty miss does not and should not define a person.
Those abusing the England players for doing so, should be utterly ashamed of themselves.
Racists are the real losers. Today. And forever.
The leadership of our young Black men is crucial to achieve the vision for an equal society that we all share.
Solidarity and a huge well done to Southgate's fantastic team last night. Dignity and spirit have a permanent home in this squad 🏴❤️
Today I say goodbye to my uncle Clyde. He emigrated from Trinidad to Liverpool at 16 years old. He played the steel drums and often performed in The Cavern.
He taught me so much. I still remember my first Notting Hill Carnival by his side.
Goodnight & god bless, Uncle Clyde. X
So, with that, I am proud to bow out on the back of one of my cabinet's better decisions resulting in one of the city's biggest triumphs.
As I relish the departure from public life - thank you, Liverpool, for letting me be your Mayor. It’s been emotional.
#Eurovision2023
Proud to be with my newly appointed Cabinet today.
This is the dawn of a new era and we are determined to do

proud.
Tonight’s extraordinary meeting of the council to discuss the response to the Best Value Inspection is the start of the road to recovery.
The fact that
@Eurovision
is happening in Liverpool is testament to why people and businesses are attracted to our city.
The potential economic dividends to come from putting our city in a global shop window should not be underestimated.
My thoughts 👇🏾
Lucky to get a tour of Liverpool’s new five star hotel today, The Municipal Hotel & Spa.
Blown away by the work and investment that has went into restoring this council building.
It now has 170+ hotel rooms, a spa, gym, bar & seafood restaurant right in the heart of our city.
A tweet posted last night asking for volunteers for the Festival Gardens site, has angered many, including myself.
I will find out more and will keep you posted during the day. My view is large companies should pay all workers.
I am incredibly disappointed that our two Levelling Up bids were not successful.
Both would have made a huge difference to two of our most deprived areas.
If levelling up is to mean anything beyond a slogan, it must be targeted at areas that need it most.
My statement 👇🏾
Liverpool is a city that’s made for Eurovision - it is and always has been a music city.
From the Mersey ferry to Penny Lane, the very foundations of our city are symbolic of songs that are recognised across the world.
Ukraine, we will do you proud! 💛💙
So proud to announce the full programme for
#LiverpoolAgainstRacism
- a brand new festival aimed at stimulating conversations about and action against racism.
Once again, Liverpool is leading the way.

As well as the emergency services, a special thanks also to all the council staff who’ve worked through the night to help our residents affected by the incident

Liverpool’s renowned annual

Inspiring day today spent with newly elected councillors.
I want all elected members to understand the positive difference the council can make, and to work alongside me in delivering the
#CityPlan
which is so vital to improving life for all of our residents. ❤️
Today marks the 16th year since Anthony was cruelly taken. Our thoughts are with his family & friends as they continue to grieve his loss. Today is a stark reminder to all of us that we must continue to do better & that racism & hate must never be allowed to win. RIEP Anthony ❤️
Massive thank you to everybody who has put your faith in me to continue as

It's a massive vote of confidence in the power of devolution and the work I've done so far - now the government has to back further devo.

#Video
| We’re all appalled at the racist online abuse targeted at the three young England footballers.
@MayorLpool
reminds us that we can stop these racist posts going around, by not sharing or reposting on social media.
Liverpool is a city built on immigration.
Our doors have been open for centuries to those seeking refuge and a safe haven.
We will always provide a shoulder to lean on and a helping hand to guide those who need it.
The City of Liverpool will be glad to see the back of Boris Johnson. His premiership will be remembered for scandal, sleaze and dishonesty, but most damningly for the tens of thousands who unnecessarily lost their lives due to his botched handling of the pandemic.
This morning I was on
@BBCBreakfast
talking about the brutal treatment of

Delighted with this morning’s news that Liverpool has been chosen to host a meeting of G7 ministers next month. A great opportunity to promote our fantastic city. The cost of hosting the event is being met by the government.
It's important to me that all communities across Liverpool have the opportunity to get involved with
