Larry McReynolds couldn't crew chief at Daytona
Because he had to go back to Charlotte
To broadcast the Daytona 500.
The absolute state of current year broadcasting.
"We want more horsepower and practice time!"
"More t-shirts with the graphic only on the back? Sure!"
"No - I said horsepower and practice time!"
"Tear down the pylons? Yeah, we can do that!"
"NO! Horsepower and---"
"Cartoons of the XFINITY and Truck drivers! Genius!"

@NASCAR
is working with five celebrities on a video series to educate new fans on how the playoffs work, and the first one will be with actor Mario Lopez (
@MarioLopezViva
).
➖ The first one will debut on NASCAR's social media pages tomorrow.
In 2011, Trevor Bayne got damage in a last-lap incident in his Duel. The Wood Bros completed repairs, and in his 2nd start, won the 500 on 2/20
In 2022, Harrison Burton got damage in a last-lap incident in his Duel. The Wood Bros have repairs ahead of Burton's 2nd start on 2/20
On May 18, 1949, NASCAR hosted a race on the newly paved Bowman Gray Stadium. That day, a child saw his first race, and his life was forever changed.
Today, it's reported 70% of attendees to this new oval are seeing their first race. Perhaps the next J.D. McDuffie is among them.
Fans:
"We want high horsepower, small spoiler!"
NASCAR:
"What? You want the numbers on the quarter-panels?"
Fans:
"No! High horsepower, small sp---!"
NASCAR:
"Ah! Nashville Superspeedway! Why didn't I think of it?"
Fans:
"NO!"

I have some sad news, everyone. Ima Jean McDuffie, wife of the late J.D. McDuffie, has died. Linda was at her side in hospice yesterday, and she passed earlier today - on the same day as the race that claimed J.D.'s life 30 years ago. Condolences to the entire McDuffie family.
Why did it take until June for me to see such a comprehensive analysis of how to put on one of these single-lug wheels?
That should have been part of the Clash broadcast.
Just got off the phone with Norm Benning. He is finalizing a deal with another team that intends to enter him at
@DAYTONA
's Truck race this coming February 2024.
In Norm's words, it's "The best ride I've ever had. The best opportunity to run up front at Daytona ever."
He's…
Hearing
@DaleJr
mention the Michael Waltrip / Robby Gordon beef from 2005-2006 is probably the first time in YEARS I've heard anyone in the booth mention an on-track incident from more than a couple weeks ago.

NBC director is ON IT - They even cut to multiple on boards to get every impact of that tangle between Briscoe and Dillon.
This isn't just night and day. This is a massive difference.
This is not good racing. This is not good broadcasting. This is complete and utter GARBAGE. I hate being this negative, but I am beyond angry at this point.
I hope there's no penalties for this. There was no real harm done and it's going to be in every montage for the next several weeks. Not to mention a wreck like that is already costly for a small team.
Yes.
Even Daytona? - Yes, the 500.
Even Bristol? - Yes, the night race.
Even Talladega? - Yes, make it the new regular season finale
Even Martinsville? - Yes, the fall race we have now before the championship
Suddenly, it's not so difficult.
🏁IMPORTANT UPDATE!🏁
The
@YouTube

@NASCAR
on my videos are being RELEASED. The matter is RESOLVED.
First of all, thank you so much everyone who came to my defense this past day, and for your support of my work. They paid attention, and you all made it happen.

This is why today's races have practically zero re-watch value.
In the YouTube era, where all content is judged on short clips like this, this is completely unacceptable.
*Civil War music plays*
My dearest Martha,
It's the 95th overtime restart. The championship is down to half of Ben Rhodes' truck and the fourth pace car.
I dream that one day this race will end, and liberty shall be my salvation. . .
Here's an idea - how about you only qualify for the Clash if you win a pole? That pretty much guarantees a small field and, well, it worked in the past.

teams have been informed that moving car number decals from the center of doors would result in added sponsor value, increasing expectations that a change will be made after this season (

Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 will see just 38 cars on the starting grid, the fewest cars in the 61-year history of the race.
In fact, it's never had fewer than 40 starters.
One of my favorite Ken Squier moments. Dale Earnhardt has just died in a last lap crash in the 2001 Daytona 500 and Squier gives a great eulogy to maybe the greatest there ever was. He put it quite perfectly: “Whatever stock car racing is, Dale Earnhardt was.”
Looking over comments, I'm surprised the consensus is so negative on tonight's race. I enjoyed seeing Hocevar, Preece, LaJoie, and McDowell run well. Truex salvaged a bad night. Larson rallied. Logano's elimination was surprising.
Again, this feels like an issue over how the…
I'm saddened to learn of the passing of Buddy Arrington, another of NASCAR's most famous independents - both for his unique style and his commitment to running Mopar products well into the 1980s. My condolences to Joey and the rest of the Arrington family.
On this day in 2001, we were ten seconds away from perhaps the greatest

ever.

's always been about free enterprise. Here are the rules: bring a legal car, run it as fast as you can, let's see how well you can do. To eliminate anyone from having that opportunity would fly in the face of what NASCAR has stood for since its inception."

Chad McCumbee - now there's a name I haven't heard in a while. Played Dale, Jr. in ESPN's "3" movie, and drove for Petty Enterprises in their closing weeks in 2008.
Okay, booth? At 00:03, when the leaders run into each other, you need to kick into overdrive, because stuff is about to happen fast. Wake up and keep up. That should have been a legendary call all the way to Turn 3.
After experimenting with it at the All-Star Race,
@NASCAR
remains talking to teams about whether to slide car numbers back more permanently in the future to maximize sponsor exposure opportunities.
➖ The earliest a change would happen at this point is with Next Gen car in '22.
It really makes no sense for the

pole to remain this prestigious while not letting any of the teams practice first. There's way too much at stake.
Watkins Glen was just as successful as Indy in showing why we don't need stage cautions.
The reason you think it sucked is because the race is way too short. Has been for years. The Glen's Cup race should be 120 laps on the current configuration - no boot needed.
🏁TEAM NEEDS A SPONSOR🏁
Tonight, I was contacted by a XFINITY team entered in this weekend's race at
@MISpeedway
. Their sponsor backed out, and they need a new sponsor to jump on board to pay for tires. Team is offering 4 garage passes.
If you're interested, DM me. If you need…

Norm Benning picked up another sponsor which has covered the cost of the engine, but he's still short of the funds he needs to lock-in his ride for Daytona. With time running short, he's set up a GoFundMe.

@P1_Houff
, it's worth noting that at
@IMS

In 1989, J.D. McDuffie qualified for the
#DAYTONA500
where Kyle Petty DNQ'd after a crash in his Twin 125. The Sabates team reached out to J.D. to buy his spot. J.D. gave a firm "No," and raced the final 500 of his career. Kyle drove Eddie Bierschwale's car instead.
