As Mayor of San Diego, I delivered real results on some of the toughest issues facing San Diego and made significant progress in reducing homelessness, even bucking the statewide trend. Now, homelessness continues to hit new records and housing is unaffordable. Our County…

As a parent I’m appalled that last night our governor signed a law maintaining a 24-year-old can have sex with a 14-year-old and it not be considered predatory. An adult who commits ANY sex act on a minor 10 years younger must be registered a sex offender. Law must be changed.

Our small businesses aren’t being treated fairly. Restaurants made good faith efforts to comply with COVID rules. Now the rules are changing once again. If the Governor shuts restaurants down, it’s only right the state compensates them for the costs incurred moving outdoors.

San Diegans have been following the rules set by our public health officials and lifeguards since beaches reopened this week. A sudden state ban on every single beach — regardless of the facts on the ground — sends the wrong message to regions where people are acting responsibly.

This is unbelievable. State inmates get COVID, they’re transferred to a larger prison without adequate testing, it sparks a huge outbreak, and now 8,000 prisoners are being released into communities — while still potentially infected. None of this is appropriate or acceptable.

The CDC director herself says we can safely reopen schools right now. It’s not the science that’s keeping our kids out of the classroom. It’s politics.

The @CDCDirector says schools can reopen even if teachers haven't all been vaccinated. "I would also say that safe reopening of schools -- that vaccination of teachers is not a prerequisite for safe reopening of schools," she says.

When businesses leave, jobs leave. When jobs leave, Californians leave. We need a governor who says that jobs are important and we want businesses to stay in California.

Why can’t kids use playgrounds in California? If we can cut hair outside, move restaurants outside, do yoga outside — we can let kids play outside! I’m urging the Governor to recognize this fact and open playgrounds. I’m 100% on board with this bipartisan call for change.

Playgrounds & family friendly outdoor activities are critical right now. That’s why 23 bi-partisan members of the Legislature joined me in asking the Governor (again) for clearer statewide guidance on how and when public park amenities can reopen for families. #LetTheKidsPlay

The violence in our nation’s capitol is unacceptable and un-American. We must be better than this. It’s time to peacefully move forward and let Congress do its constitutional duty.

You kept the faith, San Diego! Congrats @Padres on the first playoff win in 14 years! I don’t even know which Padre to give the Key to the City to. They’re all amazing!

The Supreme Court ruled that religious communities have been unfairly and unconstitutionally singled out by Gavin Newsom. The message to Newsom is clear: stop infringing on the rights of people of faith.

We tried hard to get the perfect family photo this year. I was the only one not looking at the camera but the rest of the family looks great, so we’re going with this one! Merry Christmas from the Faulconer family!

We hear you. We hear your passion and we hear your pain. The mission of police is to facilitate and protect the ability to peacefully exercise the 1st Amendment, because we will not tolerate violence in San Diego. Please exercise our right as Americans to protest — peacefully.

Urging the Governor to give consistent and achievable metrics for a safe reopen. Some state requirements aren’t realistic and would keep folks unemployed for many months if left in place. This isn’t about returning to normal. It’s about letting us get started with the new normal.

Californians are resilient. We can handle anything that comes our way. But it’s not right to ask people to stay at home, make them wait months for an unemployment check, and cut off their electricity — all at the same time. It’s unsustainable.

Education should be at the top of the list, not the bottom. But it took until the second-to-last day of the year for the governor to say he intends to help schools safely reopen, and he "pledges to advance" a plan. Gov. Newsom, your homework is late — and it's incomplete.

San Diego is READY to recover. Restaurants, hair and nail salons, and any business preparing to safely reopen can use the strategies we've created with local industry and employee groups. San Diegans have led on safe beaches. Let's lead on a safe economy.

Our community has lost a true giant and leader in our region. Peter wasn’t just the owner of the Padres, he was a humanitarian who genuinely cared about the San Diego community. He was passionate about helping people — in fact he did more to help homeless San Diegans get off…

Sacramento wants to raise your taxes — the largest tax increase in state history — for their government takeover of healthcare? From the same government that brought us billions in EDD fraud? No thanks.

California is already too expensive. And yesterday, the gas tax went up yet again.  This is hurting communities that struggled during the pandemic. Our middle class needs a break and that’s why I’ll deliver the largest middle class tax cut in our state history.

What happened to George Floyd never should have happened. Not there, not anywhere. We’re taking steps to ensure it never happens here. This morning we met with community leaders and shared that @ChiefNisleit has decided to stop SDPD’s use of the carotid restraint, effective now.

The convention center is a centerpiece of San Diego’s economy. During this pandemic, it will be a centerpiece of our fight against the coronavirus. Preparations are underway to temporarily use parts of @SDConventionCtr and all of Golden Hall to shelter homeless individuals.

I’m announcing my plan for the largest middle-class tax cut in California history. As governor, I’ll champion this plan on day one. If California isn’t affordable, it isn't livable.  We’re going to help you get a break, get ahead, and afford to stay in our great state.

Californians of all walks of life deserve to be able to walk on the sidewalk and not be forced into the street, or into an unsafe situation, because of a homeless encampment. I did not allow tent encampments on the sidewalk as mayor and will clean them up as Governor.
