Nothing's more gratifying running a small-town radio station. Getting up at 4am to air storm info-a succession of 'tree down in storm' announcements, describing lanes without names-and after that, you go to the pub, 2 locals come over separately and say you did a good job today,'

Some radio stations make a real connection with their area. They have a share and foster sense of community or place- Like Boom, Pirate And Wave. I'm really going to miss Wave in a way that I've not really missed a radio station before. And I'm not alone.

The @radioacademy .. or some industry body should launch a Steve Wright award. For the most distinctive, creative, break-the-mould, brilliance in broadcasting. It's hard to find stand-out distinction in these networked, corporate times- but maybe recognition would encourage it?

It was a bulletin aired on his show, that he didn't control and probably didn't hear as they do zillions of split versions for the regions. Ken Bruce didn't say this. Ok, to highlight the station's investigation-wrong and unfair to use his image. @BBCNews

Can someone call ITV and get the producer of 'Mr Bates vs The Post Office' to have a crack at the BBC Local Radio story? Ok, nobody was wrongly imprisoned. But lives have been ruined, mental wellbeing shattered. Arguably without a mandate, against the will of parliamentarians.

BBC's 'digital first' excuse for axing local radio is management toss. To get unique, relevant content, you need to talk with people. They should enhance LR presenter/ journo resources-or BBC will be a local paper-esque Facebook harvester. Tech tools can release content digitally

Facebook has served up this memory (2006 ratings) when we had the UK's number 1 breakfast show based on market share. What did all of these stations share? A strong sense of place. Sad to see most of these brands are no more- radio evolves. And local WILL have a resurgurance

A comment by @RobinBlamires yesterday in our discussion about local radio has made me think tonight. @drewsonix @JamesCridland

I found a brilliant website that recreates authentic radio mugs. So I bought one remembering the station that first let me cross their threshold to volunteer- they are to blame! And one from one of the first stations to pay me!! Great work by Captain's Cup. Check them out online

You boys are storming it with your Christmas programmes. Tarrant, O'Grady, Clary. Wow. All the Christmas programming I've done so far is typing up the chemist rota. @DavidLloydRADIO @BoomRadioUK @Paulrobey @radioriley @quentindab

I'm in a small pub in a quiet Exmoor village. There's 30 people in and a live DJ. He's asked for requests and told us he's 'here all the way to midnight and beyond'. Nobody is listening but he's just jocked up to the vocals of 'dancing on the ceiling'. This is quite fantastic

Just had the call I've dreaded. Our first team member to pass away. Unexpectedly. Last night. We all heard the air ambulance and had no idea. We've been asked to carry on as if nothing's happened- for now- it's doable- because It hasn't sunk in. It doesn't seem real.

We just aired yesterday's weather - all my fault because I was doing an interview and forgot to overwrite the file. I know there's perspective- so why do I feel like the CNN presenter who killed off a pope or the NZ newsreader who announced the death of a still alive Queen Mum?

Driven across England listening to BBC local #radio today. Can their presenters please stop one-sided banter with people 'behind glass', whose first names are prefixed with 'Producer'. And I don't need to know "it's Thursday afternoon" in every link. It's not Playschool

Just tried to email the new DAB station running a news jingle with the V/O "(Station) news, sponsored by (NAME) Magazine", into the news! Email bounced back 2x! FFS. Guys, lose your news sponsorship. It's illegal. If Ofcom hear, YOU'LL be making news for @roymartin at Radio Today

Getting loads of feedback for Alfred -much more than expected for the rather niche format of all-local speech. Great to be approached by people in the street who I never thought would listen. My favourite frequently offered description, 'it's like radio 4 for Shaftesbury.'

Listening to BBC Radio Bristol. Presenter telling punters to 'start your text with Bristol'. What will it be next month? Start your text with Westcountry-ish? Wessex? England?
