Can we stop treating political engagement as a bad thing?
If you donate to a party or candidate, volunteer or work in a campaign or political office and/or actually run for office, that should be celebrated.
It should not disqualify you from future public activity.
Thanks.
@nspector4
WTF needs disinfecting? Is politics inherently dirty? FFS, stop. I like you a lot, Norman, but I find this attitude tiresome and wrong. It demeans our politics and makes good folks less willing to engage.
@KenBoessenkool
@carter_AB
It needs be disclosed. Iβve seen two partisan politicos (one in an NDP CA, the other with ASCA) quoted as βparentsβ in media stories as if theyβre run of the mill soccer moms with concerns when they are, in fact, neck deep in partisan ideology.
@KenBoessenkool
I agree with this sentiment. I completely disagree with Joe Vipond's stance and what he is advocating for, but find the attempts to use his donations to the NDP as a club to 'cancel' his opinion as distasteful at best and harmful at worst. Doctor donates to the NDP? Shocking.
@KenBoessenkool
I get tired of every political appointment being denigrated as nothing simply becuase the person donated. It's used a weapon to suggest that nothing the person does has value or quality to it and it's a disgrace.
@KenBoessenkool
It shouldnβt disqualify you, but it is 100% relevant information that should be disclosed if you are advocating in the public square.
@KenBoessenkool
...I ran fer the Green Party so the liberal gov repossessed my road...no regrets but u gotta weigh yer actions against back water governments...
@KenBoessenkool
But what if you engage with (gasps and clutches pearls) the *wrong party*? Lawdy, Zeke, I'm getting the vapours, fetch me the smelling salts.
But that's enough Brock Harrison fanfic for one day.
@KenBoessenkool
Lol. When lobbyists have zero power and influence over governments. When governments give jobs to qualified individuals instead of their friends. Then maybe. But until politics is cleaned up it wonβt happen.
