The build up to the Herero-Nama genocide in Namibia, perpetrated by Germany started on 12 January 1904. The absurdity of Germany, on 12 January 2024, rejecting genocide charges against Israel and warning about the “political instrumentalisation of the charge” is not lost on us.
There's something hard for us, children of the colonised, to articulate because the world is upside down. Europe and its descendants, can't differentiate between principle and episode. This is why Germany (and much of Europe) is doomed to be genocidal. Here is what I mean. 🧵
The feedback to this clip has been stronger than I imagined. My pre-emptive response to the question I know will come is - no, I don’t have political ambition and I have no intention of ever standing, or accepting an appointment, for any public office.
Every day, we choose love. On our wedding anniversary, we are grateful for those whose love surrounds and protects ours.
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” - Martin Luther King, Jr
We have been through so much that I always get very emotional on our wedding anniversary. God is love and love is from God. I am grateful to be surrounded by love today. Ou Hageba Axaba, each day with you is a blessing. I am grateful ❤️

Mourning in times of COVID:
1. Let family or media announce first. Settle down;
2. False death alerts are traumatic. Refer to (1) above;
3. Stop stressing loved ones with, “what happened” or “was it Covid;”
4. Those who’ve already lost loved ones are re-traumatised. Be gentle;
Love laughs. Laughter lubricates love.
To the man who makes me laugh when I am tempted to be sullen, sarcastic or silent.
To all of you, thank you for the wedding anniversary messages, love indeed lives here.

Let me try help: Sexual activity, whether by choice or co-ercion, without the use of effective contraceptives is the “root cause” of unintended pregnancy. The decision to remain pregnant, or not, is about reproductive autonomy. Saying women seek abortion “for fun” is gaslighting.

The fire brigade came to honour First Officer, Namene Mbumba, the first female pilot to fly a Namibian President on the Falcon 7X. Namene has been with the Government Air Transport Services since 2017 and was recently certified to fly the President on the main aircraft. Congrats!

Dr Nickey named his son after my husband and called my husband “my son.” As his “daughter”, he shielded, guided and protected me with his wise council and generosity of spirit. A wholesome man who understood the biblical need to be as “wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove”

One of the barriers faced by women in politics is the tendency for society to subject them to a barrage of gendered, misogynistic insults intended to humiliate and diminish.

“A key aspect of wealth accumulation is that it operates in a self re-inforcing way...inherited wealth is unearned and therefore unfair.”
Again I ask, why does a country like Namibia, with the second highest inequality rate in the world, not have an inheritance tax?

We’re conflating scrapping the obsolete sodomy law with legalising homosexuality. The law against sodomy has not been enforced for over 20 years as its likely to generate constitutional friction with the right to privacy. Scrap all obsolete laws and stop being homophobic

The essence of the pro-choice argument is personal responsibility, choice and consequence - it has never been about children born out of wedlock, fatherlessness or single parenthood. This is why this discussion needs evidence-based arguments, lest we tie ourselves into knots.
@wittnsass
@fireshikomba
We have an anomaly in 🇳🇦 with children born out of wedlock, fatherlessness & single parenthood. We must reflect on the normalized culture of casual sex, access to info/contraceptives & ultimately personal responsibility-choice &consequence. Termination does not address the cause.

We need to speak more about integrity. Support your friends, don’t support lack of integrity. There is a difference.
It’s possible to denounce rapists without the “monster” theory. Victims are often asked if they sure they were raped by X as “he is such a nice person.” Rapists are our uncles, brothers, cousins - because they don’t fit the description of a monster, we don’t believe the victims.
Withdrawal of GBV cases is a real problem so I’d like to see the evidence that informs a “solution” that’s likely to disincentive and criminalise abused women who lack resources, or fear for their lives, from reporting. Imagine we end up convicting more victims than perpetrators.

Anyone earning over tax threshold is legally obliged to pay tax. However, prioritizing the taxation of informal sector over considering an appropriate wealth tax makes me ask, yet again: why does Namibia, the 2nd most unequal country in the world, not have estate/inheritance tax?

I’ve taken time to read the Law Reform Commission Report on abolishing/decriminalizing sodomy. It lends itself for an informed conversation. We need less insults and more informed, non-judgmental discussions. Check the thread but best is to read:
COVID manifests itself differently in each individual so please don’t gamble with your life. Even with the excellent healthcare available to us, there was massive anxiety as all the experts around us knew how unpredictable this virus is. Please vaccinate!

Homosexuality is not illegal in Namibia therefore it can’t be made legal - please fix your headline.
There is an unenforceable sodomy law which clashes with constitutional rights of privacy and dignity.

* add some female pseudonyms, gender equality is key;
* If you can’t engage constructively, I prefer insults with correct spelling.

Gendered insults are intended to shame women into obedience. To remind us we are nothing. The Presiding Officer needs to stop this. Society needs to stop this. Bystanders need to stop being silent. This is not normal.
This is important. Critical thinking requires us to be intellectually honesty and hold each other accountable. You can never solve a problem if you intentionally misdiagnose it. Power doesn’t concede without a demand so activism is critical but it needs to be centred in truth.
