Americans causing problems:
An American family who visited the Golan Heights decided to bring back a souvenir: An unexploded artillery shell.
When they went to the airport to fly home, they showed their... actual bomb to security, prompting the guards to evacuate the terminal.

Hamas rockets from Gaza on the right, Israeli Iron Dome interceptors on the left.
Beautiful and horrifying.
A sapper who was called in eventually ensured there was no threat of the shell exploding, and everyone was allowed back in.
Moral of the story: DON'T TRY TO BRING A FUCKING BOMB ON AN AIRPLANE.

I think one of the most depressing things for me, and I imagine most Jews right now, is the knowledge (not fear or concern, but verified knowledge) that if my family and I were murdered, you ghouls would debate if we had it coming.
UPDATE:
According to the Israeli Airports Authority, after the family was questioned, they were allowed to get on their flight (without the bomb).
Also, a man who fell during the emergency evacuation was lightly injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, the authority says.

Hundreds of rioters burned down the el-Hamma synagogue in Tunisia last night, posting videos of themselves doing it on TikTok and Facebook.
More overt, violent antisemitism in a country where a deadly terror attack took place against its Jewish community earlier this year.

That's 600 Israelis so far. The number will surely be higher.
This is the largest number of Jews murdered in a single day since the Holocaust. I don't even know how to process that.
I'm at Ben Gurion Airport where in a few minutes a special rescue flight with 9 Holocaust survivors on board has just landed, moments before Israel marks Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Could you imagine if Iran had attacked a US Embassy? What would that even look like? I guess we'll never know as that exact type of event has no historical precedent whatsoever.
If a country attacked a US embassy, what would we expect the US to do in response? And would that be legitimate? Are Iranians permitted to do the same when their own embassy is attacked? Or do we adopt one standard for ourselves and another for "enemies"?
Please do not think this is just "another" round of fighting in Gaza.
This is the worst attack that Israel has seen in decades, bar none. When the final numbers come in, this may be the worst single attack on Israeli civilians in the country's history.

The fact that after Zelensky's speech to the Knesset most Israeli politicians are currently putting out statements about the roles of Ukrainians in the Holocaust instead of the role Israel should play in Ukraine's defenses is a pretty clear sign of this.
It is unfortunate that the headlines are that Israel is resuming fighting after the ceasefire/pause expired and not that Israel is resuming the fighting after Hamas violated the ceasefire/pause with a barrage of rockets aimed at southern Israel.
What a woman.

I'm speaking aesthetically, not politically, when I say that nothing screams "failed state" like a politician who literally never served a day in his life donning an ill-fitting paramilitary uniform to inspect the troops.
What is this thing that people keep doing comparing the location of Israel's Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv to Hamas's launching rockets from Gaza schools? Does any country not have its defense ministry inside a city?
That's not the same as actively waging war from civilian areas.
The hand on the Artists4Ceasefire pin is orange. The background is red. A raised hand is a universal symbol for stop, which is why it's being used to call for a ceasefire.
It has nothing to do with the Ramallah lynching, and it's obscene and counterproductive to claim otherwise.
Pro tip: If you want to peddle in antisemitic tropes without being accused of antisemitism, just move to Israel.
You can say that the government is run by Jews; you can say the banks are run by Jews; you can say the media is run by Jews, and no one will bat an eye.
The IDF seems to be willfully misleading foreign press about tonight's assault on northern Gaza, making it seem as though it launched a ground invasion into Gaza.
It seems that some IDF troops entered just beyond the border, so technically inside Gaza. But not a ground invasion.
Correction: Additional footage of the incident appears to show that the fireworks were fired from the Temple Mount toward the Western Wall below (where thousands of Jews were gathered for Jerusalem Day celebrations).
The trees were just in the way.
The world is complicated and amazing.
That's a Qatari military transport plane next to an Israeli plane next to an Iranian military plane. All of them in Gaziantep to provide aid to Turkey.
Israel's over-reliance on administrative detentions and its (often wildly) unfair military courts are serious issues and they both need to be addressed desperately.
That does not mean that every person who goes through those systems is innocent.
This isn't that complicated.

There's a way of legitimately taking issue with Holocaust comparisons. This ain't it.

Absolutely shameful conduct.
IDF says some 300 rockets and mortar shells have been fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip today.
This is the largest number of projectiles fired from Gaza in a single day ever, including during the 2014 war, according to Shin Bet statistics.
"Israeli couscous" isn't couscous; it's a toasted pasta that was meant to mimic rice when Israel struggled to produce/import it.
Removing Israeli from the name makes the label inaccurate.
At Yale, the years-old, popular "Israeli couscous salad with spinach and tomatoes," has been renamed in our dining halls as the same exact dish but without the word "Israeli."
Sorry to be that guy, but...
Despite some 200 rockets being fired at Israel over the past day, there have been minimal Israeli casualties, in large part because the Iron Dome shot down 90% of those heading toward populated areas.
Now's a good time to say: Thanks, Obama.
I have an amazing update to this:
The woman (Noa Hanuka)'s husband, Noam, woke up from his coma, and a few days later, on Oct. 18, she gave birth to their son.
We met a resident of Mefalsim who's 38 weeks pregnant. Her husband was shot on Saturday while driving. He is unconscious, now undergoing his 3rd surgery.
She hid for 10 hours before being rescued without water. She said she doesn't want to give birth until he wakes up.
Counterpart: There is Jewish American consensus about the conflict in Israel and Gaza.
The overwhelming majority of Jewish Americans support Israel and are horrified by the Hamas attacks.
Yes, there are exceptions but just because some tiny groups are loud doesn't make them big
TIL that the Bund and the World Zionist Congress were formed in the exact same year, 1897.
In that moment, just like today, there were competing ideas about the path to Jewish safety. The Bund chose solidarity with their neighbors. The World Zionist Congress chose nationalism.
I am in no way minimizing yesterday's terror attack when I say that the claims it was a violation of the ceasefire are just false.
The IDF operated heavily in the West Bank throughout the ceasefire. If that wasn't a violation, neither was this.
Doesn't make it any less terrible

Israel fought an 11-day battle with Hamas in Gaza, and every international outlet had people on the ground here, sometimes in addition to the teams they already had here.

Smuggling some 55,000 pages of documents, 183 CDs, with 55,000 files, from Tehran to Tel Aviv -- the mind boggles.
Tell me "I was too lazy to look at the list of Palestinian prisoners and research their cases but still wanted to tweet about it" without telling me "I was too lazy to look at the list of Palestinian prisoners and research their cases but still wanted to tweet about it."
How many of the detainees released by Israel received a fair trial in a civilian court, as opposed to some kind one-sided administrative proceeding or "trial" before a military court. I would hazard a guess: ZERO. "Captive" isn't a bad choice of words.
@WashingtonPost
There is a cognitive dissonance required to believe that both the IDF is so good that during active combat it knows the precise location of every man, woman and child in Gaza AND that it fucked up so bad that it did not anticipate the Oct. 7 attacks.
