I’m grateful to the tireless efforts of @VaxHuntersCan . They’re amazing. But the very fact so many of us are reliant on a group of tech-friendly volunteers (rather than an effective government portal where one can pre-register) to find out where to get vaccinated speaks volumes.

Doug Ford and I often disagree. But the fact he snowmobiled on a weekend isn’t evidence that he ignores his job. No one, including our leaders, should reasonably be expected to never take a moment for themselves. Ford often deserves criticism, but that criticism should be fair.

How is any of this “for the people”? A secret 95-year deal giving an Austrian company private use of Ontario Place’s waterfront. Moving the Science Centre with no credible business case. Given the Greenbelt scandal, the Ford government hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt.

Kudos to the John Tory re-election campaign for announcing support today for housing initiatives the John Tory mayoral administration hasn’t been willing to do in eight years.

As a parent, I want my child to be proud of herself. And no matter who she loves, I will love her unconditionally. As leaders, we have a responsibility to ensure that schools are safe and supportive places. Doug Ford isn’t just a bully, he’s a coward. Our kids deserve better.

NEW - Premier Ford: “I have no comment on that” when reporters asked him if he disagrees with the York Catholic board not raising the pride flag.

Toronto city council has now formally voted to request the province repeal Bill 39; and that the mayor not use his undemocratic minority rule powers. I’m so proud of the majority of my colleagues who have strongly represented the people of Toronto’s commitment to democracy.

A revised proposal for Ontario Place by Therme still clearcuts hundreds of trees and privatizes our waterfront with a megaspa through a secret 95 year lease. The first proposal was awful. The new one’s just a bit less awful. That’s not good enough. Let’s create an @ONPlace4All .

We ran an ideas-driven campaign that was honest, positive and ethical. Our platform set the agenda and raised up what politics can be. I’m very proud of what we did, and how we did it. Toronto, I believe in you. And I’m ready to get to work on your priorities!

So, Doug Ford will support 4-storey buildings if they provide a home to an Austrian spa at Ontario Place, but won’t support 4-storey buildings for people who can’t afford to buy a home in Ontario’s neighbourhoods?

A truly strong mayor of Toronto would lead with conviction, and with the merits of their vision for our city, rather than assault the basic tenets of our democracy. What John Tory did is not only undemocratic, it’s shamefully weak. And cannot be allowed to stand.
