I'm in Williamson Valley at this tiny firehouse where voters are *really* showing up. The inspector at this site said it's usually a dead location (she said that one midterm 10 people showed up). By my count, they already have had about 50-75 people show up.

We called Potts yesterday, and tried to confront her about her sitting on the report and charges. She ignored our calls and emails. Just this morning, she filed charges — two months after receiving the report that recommended the charges...

Like the reality is that press badges are actually sometimes more harmful to have in many cases, but they are also INCREDIBLY HELPFUL if you find yourself in a bind and need to get in someplace for safety. I've *actually* had to do this during protests.

But the charges are shocking for the people who were shot at, because their friend who got shot in the face is also being charged the same as his shooter. Even though the police report mentions that it was retaliatory gunfire in his defense...

And that's what excites me most about this story. See, many of the people in Willcox truly believe that their workers love the job. They think that the work is enjoyable because they're told by DOC or the city that they are. But never has a person's voice been attached to it.

In AZ, prisoners must work. That meant that with the larger prison population, was a massive workforce that could be used at the benefit of the state. But privatizing public goods in is a popular conservative sticking point. So it seemed natural to extend it to prisoners.

@paulkrugman has a very different version of history than me and other MENA people who grew up after 9/11. The first hate crime of 9/11 – directed naively at a Sikh – was in my neighborhood of Mesa, Ariz. It was terrifying living in a conservative place & having to hide

Overall, Americans took 9/11 pretty calmly. Notably, there wasn't a mass outbreak of anti-Muslim sentiment and violence, which could all too easily have happened. And while GW Bush was a terrible president, to his credit he tried to calm prejudice, not feed it 2/

1- ACU has students sign a clause that specifically targets LGBTQ+ people. As in, in order to attend and graduate, you have to sign a pledge affirming the school's belief that same-sex marriage is wrong.

Finally let's end with... HIGHER EDUCATION Besides @ASU buying beds from ACI that is made literally from stolen prisoners' clothing, the university has a great deal going where they partner with ACI to reupholster almost every piece of furniture in the university dorms. Forks up!
