The fact that @OntarioPCParty connected land speculators own the majority of greenbelt land @fordnation just opened for sprawl is no surprise. That many have been spending tens of millions of dollars on purchasing greenbelt land since Ford came to power...what did they know?

I am so embarrassed to be a member of #HamOnt City Council right now. Make no mistake - the majority of Council killed @SoBiHamilton out of pure spite. They voted it down because it is important to the wrong people - they know you care about it & know it would hurt. Shameful.

The @OntarioPCParty spent 3 years setting growth regulations that lead to boundary expansions. After 90.4% of 18,387 #HamOnt residents said NO - the provincial government is now threatening Hamilton to force an expansion & destroy farmland. This is undemocratic & unacceptable.

What I've learned commuting by @RideOnewheel 1. Car travel makes things seem far away. Most trips are less than a couple km & an easy ride. 2. You miss a lot of random conversations driving point-point in a car. 3. Our family doesn't really need 2 cars. PS it's way more fun!

In #HamOnt we debate the weight of 18000 resident's opinion vs the local sprawl developer lobby - missing the big picture - it's sprawl developers across Ontario with influence over the very @OntarioPCParty growth policy we're forced to follow! #onpoli

This is not just a #HamOnt story - every municipality in Ontario is watching @C_Mulroney 's blatant, ongoing mismanagement of this file. Nationally, people & business are questioning the competence of the @OntarioPCParty . @fordnation could fix this mess tomorrow. #yesLRT

This is a clear example of how the development industry is able to buy public policy. Don't like the opinion of 90.4% of 18k #HamOnt residents, with thousands of stop sprawl signs across the City...no problem pay for your own survey and use your paid lobbyists to promote it!

This morning @NanosResearch released fascinating results from a scientifically & methodologically sound survey conducted in #HamOnt . Rating aspects of the City of Hamilton - it is no surprise that Hamiltonians rated the city poorly as a place one can afford to buy a home #ONpoli

#HamOnt #mandatory masks🗣️😷are either: A. Government conspiracy to take your freedom, attack your religion, kill you with CO2 & unnecessary/unscientific because #COVID19 is already over. B. A minor inconvenience that may save you or a loved one from a deadly, incurable virus.

My 2 cents on #HamOnt Council breaks: I HATE trying to figure out when to step out. I feel like I'm being rude to the presenter and to my Council colleagues during questions - because the message is "you're not worthy of my full attention & physical presence" if I leave the room.

Today's PW Committee was fascinating: @CycleHamilton came to ask what are the barriers to cycling infrastructure in #HamOnt - they were treated to a real life case study on why even minimal improvements 🚴 are actively blocked - full of every anti-bike misconception imaginable!

Just received a call at 9:30pm last night that a student at my kids's school tested positive for #COVID19 As a dad, I'm furious - I don't want $200 - I want a public school with adequate funding for educators & facilities to make sure students are safe! This is 🐂💩 @fordnation

#HamOnt Board of Health has unanimously requested @fordnation & @celliottability initiate a #VaccinePassport program & mandatory #COVID19 vaccines where permissible by law. @cityofhamilton is working hard to reach unvaccinated populations - but provincial leadership is needed.

Troubling projections from @cityofhamilton public health. #HamOnt is heading into a #COVID19 4th wave - projected to be the highest yet - almost exclusively with unvaccinated people. A small 10% increase in vaccinations & maintaining public health measures eliminates this.

As we face #HamOnt tax increases from 2020 to 2028 & look for cuts to ease the burden - remember the majority of Council voted against simply investigating bi-weekly landfill waste collection that could have saved more than $21M 💵 from the levy & $63M 💵 worth of landfill space.

Is this fooling anyone #HamOnt ? An expensive development industry funded biased marketing campaign posing as a fake advocacy group... Doesn't this campaign simply show that @HamNeedsHousing thinks developer's money can buy policy?

Governments at all levels support increasing housing supply - but $2M McMansions on farmland & tiny one bedroom speculative investor condos are not the supply we need for #HamOnt families. Supply at all costs is not the answer, how and where is much more important...

“We're talking about a delta of 27 free parking spaces versus a housing crisis.” That's an “unconscionable” debate to have after council told staff to analyze the potential use of city-owned land for affordable housing with “no political interference.”

The bottom line: #HamOnt taxpayers and municipalities across Ontario cannot afford urban boundary expansions. This is a simple financial fact. Sprawl development is taxpayer subsidy of land speculator's profits. Full stop. #onpoli

"The current approach to suburban development is a “growth Ponzi scheme." It would take 37 years’ worth of property-tax revenue from all the houses on a cul de sac just to recoup the street’s initial cost. Urban sprawl is a financial loser."

The thing that sticks with me as a structural engineer - the fact that the building is under construction now - means the developer likely never intended to stop at the approved 10 stories. It's pretty difficult & costly to add 20% to the structural load on a last minute whim.

Fundamentally saddened to hear of the misogynistic, racist, violent, offensive abuse directed towards @NrinderWard3 & her staff. If the intent was to silence or intimidate Councillor Nann - this person clearly knows nothing about Councillor Nann.
