This is in Dayton, Ohio, by the way!
HUGE shoutout to the county Board of Elections crew for making this orderly and pleasant!
Also, did you know Ohio Secretary of State
@FrankLaRose
is doing everything to making absentee voting MORE DIFFICULT?
This is me, a mom who decided to run for school board 7 years ago. Who has dedicated my service since then to fighting for public education, women’s rights, and strong communities.
Who just filed my paperwork to run for the Ohio 6th Senate District.
Day 1 of homeschooling. I’m doing my online
@presenttensefit
workout before school and my daughter decided to join me.
Good luck to all the parents out there.
Follow me for public education/political content. I serve on the Dayton Public Schools Board of Education.
This is also a Nikole Hannah-Jones and Elizabeth Warren stan account
One more thing! I am working to get Marshall Lachman elected to Ohio’s Second District Court of Appeals. He’s a rock solid example of who an appellate judge should be: experienced, qualified, and trusted in the legal community. Check him out at
On Wednesday I watched the extremists in the Ohio statehouse vote to keep trans kids from accessing gender affirming health care.
This morning I went to the doctor with my trans kid and supported him as he accessed his own gender affirming care.
🧵
I’m Jocelyn, I’m unapologetically pro choice, and I’m running for the Ohio 6th Senate District.
Not everyone in this race is pro choice. I am the only pro choice woman running for this Senate seat.
@AdamWDTN
Hi Adam, I have already given permission to several news outlets and you are welcome to use it as well as long as you credit my name. Thanks!
But the real reason this is happening right now?
It's because after last week's election, the majority of state board members actually support public education, with three new board members who were supported by the
@OhioEA
and
@OFTadvocate
.
This new state board will hopefully be a functional, reasonable board that supports *public* education. And Republicans want to strip this ability away.
Tonight the
@DaytonSchools
Board of Education held a special board meeting to close out some end of fiscal year business, but we started the meeting by passing a resolution in opposition to Ohio HB 99.
I’m proud to be a
@ewarren
Democrat. I canvassed for her in the primary, publicly endorsed her, and I’m not ashamed to say I wanted my new logo to be EW colors.
LFGoooooooooooooooooooo
Sherrod Brown is the model of public service and dedication to making lives better for the working families of Ohio. It’s an honor to see him again this morning, thank you for coming to Dayton, Senator!
Why is this legislation necessary? Supporters of SB 178 have stated their frustration with the public education system in Ohio for years, when in fact they have been doing everything to dismantle public ed for decades
@OFCSSuper
@DavidForKids
“Local control, but we will tie your hands and remove funding, and then when you can’t meet expectations we will declare you a failure and take over”
To all my new followers from yesterday: welcome! I post about abortion, public education, Q+ rights, and my dogs.
But today I want to talk about the bullshit in the Ohio statehouse.
The Ohio Senate has introduced Senate Bill 178, which would "reform the functions and responsibilities of the State Board of Education, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the Department of Education"
This resolution, passed unanimously by the board members at the meeting, stated that we will NOT allow any firearms on our school property by any staff member, including our security resource officers.
No guns. Period.
Wasn’t planning on it today, but decided to pop into the Board of Elections and cast my vote for the ONLY pro choice woman running for the Ohio 6th Senate District.
Shout out to the BoE and the poll workers!
And thus sums up Ohio's misguided approach to funneling public tax dollars to private organizations that can and do discriminate on the basis of disability. In the year of our lord 2021.
Politicians like
@clickforohio
don't know what gender affirming care is, and don't even bother to find out. Let me tell you what it looks like.
(this is all posted with my son's permission)
Doctors are there for their patients, and my son is lucky to have a doctor who was supportive and affirming and nonjudgemental. Everyone in Ohio, whether they are trans or not, deserves that kind of medical care.
I am opposed, in the strongest words possible, to having ANY employee carry ANY firearm on school property, but for districts that are comfortable having armed staff, lowering the training requirements is ludicrous and dangerous and an utter failure of leadership.
Heartbreaking email of the day: a parent whose child is enrolled in a nonpublic school in Dayton (it seems the parent doesn't understand that her child's school isn't part of DPS) emails me about student disability discrimination.
The resolution is fully supported by *all* 11 bargaining units at DPS. From our teachers to our paraprofessionals to our transportation staff, and all the labor unions in between, they all supported this resolution. Thank you to all, we are so grateful for your support.
I am incredibly proud to announce that I have been awarded the 2024 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction. This distinction is an honor and I pledge that I will continue fighting for common sense gun safety legislation as your next State Senator.
At no point did the doctor say "you need [blank] treatment". At no point did my son get a medical opinion that was not centered in what was best for his body and his health.
Thank you to all the parents, students, staff, and community members who advocated for and support this resolution. We are grateful to stand with you in knowing that what makes our schools and students and staff safe is safety FROM guns.
Five years ago I gave a TEDx talk about my work and advocacy for public education.
Today I’m running for the Ohio 6th Senate District to continue that work.
It was a visit that was entirely centered on the best possible medical care for my son. Treatments were discussed, but my son's understanding of his body and his needs, and collaborating with the doctor's medical opinion, was the focus of the appointment.
My son has a specific goal in mind with his health care. He went to the doctor to ask about how to reach that goal, with a specific treatment in mind. He explained his goal, asked about the treatment, and the doctor listened carefully.
Here's the thing: the doctor gave her honest, medical opinion and said "so I'm not sure this is the best treatment for you right now, and this is why" and explained a lot of the pros and cons of the treatment.
Excited to head to DC this morning to participate in the
@NSBAPublicEd
Advocacy Institute! I’m proud to represent
@DaytonSchools
and advocate for stronger public education for all.
@rachsyme
This is my favorite shade of peacock green (I painted my dining room to match it) and it has POCKETSSSSSSS
Hot dang I love this dress

@ConnieSchultz
@SenSherrodBrown
Connie, my oldest (who is now a senior in HS) had Sherrod visit his class about 8 years ago. He remembers Sherrod talking about his dog, asked him lots of questions about his dog, and wrote an article for the elementary school paper about Senator Brown and his dog.
The doctor then asked "are you thinking about other treatments, like hormone therapy?" and my son said he wasn't. The doctor said "okay! thanks for letting me know!" and proceeded to talk about other options that would meet my son's medical goal.
Actually really surprised that I haven’t seen anything yet on social media about how one of Dayton’s mayoral candidates admitted on Monday that he was in DC on January 6th
If you're not aware, HB 99 was passed by the Ohio House and Senate and signed by Governor DeWine and shortened the training requirements for teachers and employees to carry a firearm in our schools. They shortened the training requirements from 600 hours to 24 hours.
Charters and vouchers are detrimental to educating our young kids. It’s happening in here in Ohio, in Arizona, and quite possibly in your state as well.
This is deliberate. This is designed to dismantle public education, under the false argument of school choice.
I'm not a large enough account to make a difference but I wanted to share our "school choice" experience in AZ. Our neighborhood public school failed last year. No gifted services, no teacher for half the year, etc. So I pulled her and signed her up for a charter.
TWENTY FOUR HOURS of training.
That's all the Statehouse thinks teachers and staff need to carry a DEADLY firearm into our schools, full of our children and loved ones.
@diazporican
There was a volunteer passing out lit for a Republican candidate with her nose sticking out of her mask; I may or may not have politely told her to cover her nose
Her daughter has autism and the school has decided that providing services for a student with autism is too much to ask, so they have "asked" the parent to consider other educational options for her child. Parent sees this as blatantly discriminatory (which it is!)
My most BYU story is my neighbor who went for a walk around the temple one Sunday evening, he was asking if anyone wanted to join him, and another neighbor said she’d go.
They came back engaged.
HB 68 is big government overreaching to tell parents how to parent. As a mom, the last person I want telling me how to raise my kids is some republican politician from outside of my community.
I signed the Clean Campaign Pledge, and call on my colleagues in the Democratic Primary to do the same. Campaigns should be about the issues: the right to bodily autonomy and abortion, public education, and economic burdens holding back our families.
I voted with my son this morning! He just turned 18 and has been wanting to vote for years. He’s tagged along and “helped” me vote since he was little.
Vote in your primary today, folks! Polls are open until 7:30.
The face you make when you run for state senate to fight for women’s rights and public education and you have a candidate forum and you get to talk about how deeply you believe in the power of Democratic policy and legislation to make our lives better
It’s Election Day!
However the results go tonight, I have been so lucky to have the best team with me as I have talked to the voters in this district. Here’s a fun numbers rundown of the last few months:
Typical Tuesday:
Wake up at 5:30, run 6-8 miles.
Coffee in hand, pick up friend for early voting
Film voters at Board of Elections
Go viral, get retweeted by Leslie Odom, Jr and Paul Feig
DIE
More coffee
Work, I guess?
💪 Get Marshall Lachman elected 💪
Many thanks to the South Dayton Democratic Club for hosting a fantastic meeting on democracy and the importance of fair districts and fighting extremism, featuring
@DavidPepper
.
To everyone in the Ohio 6th Senate District: you deserve an unwavering advocate and fighter representing you in Columbus. Someone who shows up at the front lines, who leads the work, who isn’t afraid to tell you where they stand on an issue.
At the
@DaytonSchools
board review meeting last night, I presented a resolution for board vote *opposing* a state school board resolution to (just wait for the title) "SUPPORT PARENTS, SCHOOLS AND DISTRICTS IN REJECTING HARMFUL, COERCIVE AND BURDENSOME GENDER IDENTITY POLICIES”
It's one thing to get elected, and it's another to be re-elected.
Thank you, everyone, from the bottom of my heart. I am honored to be able to continue this work for 4 more years.
Couldn’t have asked for a better launch party last night!
Thank you to everyone who joined us, I can’t wait to represent you as the next Senator of the
#SuperSixth
district!
Your
@DaytonSchools
Board of Education is having our first in person meeting since March! At our board retreat this morning we are all wearing our masks, staying 6 feet apart, and not having more than 10 people in the room at a time.
Today I was joined by former Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl and community members for a press conference addressing public safety and gun violence prevention.
This is a resounding win for women and for Ohio. I am proud to have been in this fight since March and to watch the women around us organize and lead and bring us home tonight.
But the fight continues.
Shout out to Corey, who stopped me in the Aldi parking lot while we were grocery shopping and pointed at my name tag and asked “how do you know this Jocelyn?” and I said “I am this Jocelyn!”
I met Rose just a few months ago and was *immediately* impressed with her. She is exactly the type of person the 36th district should have representing them in Columbus.
I'm running to represent
#HD36
in the Ohio House. As a business owner, a mom of triplets and former teacher, I know the challenges that working families face across our state. We need to ensure the voices of everyday Ohioans, not extremists, are heard in Columbus.
#RoseForOhio
Not only am I running for Ohio Senate, but I’m fully supporting other fantastic candidates, up and down the ballot, as well as the anti-gerrymandering ballot initiative.
Flash back to April 10, 2019, my first time testifying for public education in the Ohio Statehouse.
Public education, our promise to *every* child that they have the right to a high quality education, is one of the main reasons I'm running for the Ohio 6th Senate District.
So many thanks to
@DaytonChildrens
for the stellar care they’ve given my daughter. They’ve been kind, informative, thoughtful, and given her excellent medical treatment.
We sure showed that appendix who’s boss
and BONUS THERAPY DOG
About to make a purchase from the museum gift shop when my kid said “that’s the most 40 year old white mom thing you could have bought here” so now I’m leaving the shop with no print and no child
It’s 9:41 p.m. and I’m in bed with my dog tucked into the crook of my legs and my college son and 9th grade son are downstairs playing cello duets for fun and I’m not sure how I got so lucky
Honored to be sworn in for my second term on the
@DaytonSchools
board. I am humbled to be chosen by my colleagues to serve as Vice President, and I congratulate and support Will Smith in his new role as President.
Surprise! These moms and dads for Jocelyn are MY mom and dad.
They taught me how to be an active, engaged part of my community. That hard work is necessary, to love others and serve them, and that we all need to step up and be a part of making the world a little bit better.
In Mormonism too. I’ll never forget the moment a fellow congregant told me I should have another a baby because “we need more smart white babies”.
That was the moment I was like “oh NO. I’m OUT out”
There' a racial element to the Duggar doc "Shiny Happy People" that I think is also important that was slightly touched on. There's a yt savior complex, but also this 'quiver full' movement is only acceptable w/in a yt, Xian context. Everyone else is "overpopulating.'

*drumroll please*
I have been endorsed by school board members across the state, people who have worked with me and know how hard I work and how much I care for my community.
Counting down to my event in Cincinnati next week, I have many CPS endorsements I’m proud to share!
Dayton has been my home for 20 years, but I am beyond lucky to have worked in and have many friends from Cincinnati (like Anna!).
I am excited and grateful that so many of my Cincy friends are supporting my campaign for the
#SuperSixth
senate district! Join us on January 24th!
Another advocacy effort is wrapped up! It’s been a busy few days in DC, and I’m so grateful to have been able to meet with Senator Brown’s staff to talk about public education issues in Ohio and across the country and Dayton public schools.
Sunday mornings I run around the city and intentionally explore it. Today I ran past the building where
@cheezit
were invented (best snack cracker ever!) and this old Kroger warehouse
