This was for MEMENTO. This was for BATMAN BEGINS. This was for THE PRESTIGE. This was for INCEPTION. This was for INTERSTELLAR. This was for DUNKIRK. This was for OPPENHEIMER.
But most importantly, this was for THE DARK KNIGHT.
The greatest filmmaker of the 21st Century.
“Sixteen years ago, seventeen years ago - my mistake. Sorry, eighteen …
Your question, it was not properly phrased.”
Emily Blunt fucking destroyed this scene. If you know, you know. She crackles with a fierce & fiery ferocity.
Best Supporting Actress Oscar is locked.
THE BATMAN is nearly three hours long. It’s a full on detective noir epic. The story takes place during the week of Halloween. Batman keeps a journal & it’s read to the audience in voiceover.
Please inject this film into my veins. It’s absolutely everything I’ve ever wanted.
Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER
Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE: PART TWO
David Fincher’s THE KILLER
Michael Mann’s FERRARI
Yorgos Lanthimos’ POOR THINGS
Martin Scorsese’s KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON
What a phenomenal year for cinematic juggernauts & this isn’t even the half of it.
I wish I could better articulate in words how these shots made me feel every time they appeared sporadically in OPPENHEIMER.
Christopher Nolan has this way of making simple images feel so transcendent through the use of visuals as well as sonics.
It’s overwhelmingly beautiful.
I don’t think people realize how difficult it is to use the Riddler. The Riddler is *always* three steps ahead of the Batman but the director needs to be three steps ahead of the Riddler. That’s the brilliance of Matt Reeves’ writing/directing.
#TheBatman
People always question why I hate certain movies when they use green screens. Not true. I hate when they use *terrible* green screens.
It’s why I love & praise films like THE DARK KNIGHT & THE BATMAN so fucking much. This is how it should be done.
I loved this entire scene in the film. It was such a beautiful, pivotal moment for the character. He isn’t *Vengeance* instilling fear into criminals. He’s becomes *The Batman* for the people of Gotham.
Every single actor in Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER acted their asses off.
Despite the majority of them having small cameos, they all had extremely meaty & important roles.
Loved seeing Josh Hartnett especially make a huge comeback on the big screen. He was incredible.
The way Christopher Nolan & Denis Villeneuve are dominating with three hour prestige epics in a constantly evolving, uncertain cinematic landscape brings a smile to my face.
Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve, David Fincher, Ridley Scott, & Martin Scorsese all releasing films this year, most of them being over three hour long epics.
Cinema is back, baby. We won.
Thursday. October 31st. The city streets are crowded for the holiday, even with the rain.
Hidden in the chaos is the element, waiting to strike like snakes. But I’m there too… watching.
#TheBatman
The immense scope of DUNE: PART TWO is just incredible. Denis Villeneuve definitely understands the importance of scaling & creating images that evoke wonder.
What a grand visual spectacle. This is blockbuster filmmaking at its finest.
Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER deserves Oscar nominations for:
- Best Picture
- Best Director
- Best Actor
- Best Supporting Actor
- Best Supporting Actress
- Adapted Screenplay
- Original Score
- Sound
- Production Design
- Cinematography
- Film Editing
- Visual Effects
Warner Bros. better give everything to Denis Villeneuve. He has delivered consistently acclaimed films for the studio for years.
He deserves all the creative freedom for DUNE: MESSIAH.
BLACK WIDOW made it to the 94th Oscars shortlist for Best Visual Effects over THE SUICIDE SQUAD & THE GREEN KNIGHT.
The latter two films had walking giants, a magical fox, & a freaking starfish kaiju. How did this even happen…
I just loved this scene of Batman walking into the Iceberg Lounge so damn much. The grimy, rain aesthetic from outside, the industrialist design of the nightclub itself, the lighting, the bad ass swagger of his walk. God, it’s so perfect.
#TheBatman
God … I can not wait to rewatch this film again this weekend. I have been thinking about it every day. Just really exquisite, beautiful filmmaking.
Thank you Christopher Nolan - for always raising the bar & constantly inspiring us all.
We have a signal now for when I’m needed. But when that light hits the sky, it’s not just a call, it’s a warning to them. Fear is a tool. They think I’m hiding in the shadows but I am the shadows.
#TheBatman
Robert Pattinson working with Christopher Nolan, Matt Reeves, Robert Eggers, the Safdie brothers, James Gray, Claire Denis, & Bong Joon-Ho within the past few years.
My God… This man has won. Phenomenal career. Warner Bros’ new Golden Boy.
So, Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne wears computer contact lenses with some kind of built in cameras to some capacity in the film. That’s so damn cool.

I just got out of my third viewing of seeing
#TheBatman
& it definitely irons out the minor gripes that I had with the film. It’s so perfectly paced, so meticulously crafted, & so impeccably written & directed.
This film requires repeat viewings. Such a masterful work of art.
I have seen THE BATMAN four times now this week & it has cemented this film as one of my absolute favorite cinematic experiences of all time.
Dark, complex, beautiful, artful blockbuster films are just everything to me.
#TheBatman
What a truly magnificent ending. Zendaya is doing incredible work here but Hans Zimmer goes back to his INTERSTELLAR days & crafts a score that is just as transcendent, majestic, & otherworldly.
I didn’t want DUNE: PART TWO to ever end.
THE BATMAN (2022)
DUNE: PART TWO (2024)
We are so lucky to have someone like Greig Fraser creating such iconic shots for these modern day blockbusters with his impeccable cinematography. Bless you, Greig Fraser.
Just finished my third IMAX screening of DUNE: PART TWO. God, what a truly unforgettable cinematic experience.
A sandy combustion of powerful sound & imagery that transcends you right from its spectacular opening sequence.
We are witnessing a major cultural event.
People keep saying
#TheBatman
is so grounded to realism, even more so than Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy & … I don’t think we saw the same film here … at all.
How on earth does DUNE get celebrated for its craftsmanship all year long & get nominated in almost every single category yet no Best Director for Denis Villeneuve…
There is a shot of the Batman holding on to Catwoman that is so f*cking sexy; the shot could have easily been made into an official poster for the film.
#TheBatman
I remember Denis Villeneuve, Ridley Scott, & George Miller were all being considered to direct THE BATMAN before eventually going to Matt Reeves.
This is the level of care & talent I expect for the next live action SUPERMAN film.
We are officially getting BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER on HBO Max in 2022 & X-MEN ‘97 on Disney+ in 2023. The 90’s are back, baby. This is my childhood right here.
Just finished seeing THE BATMAN in IMAX for the fifth time now, this time bringing the entire family & they all clapped at the end. They loved it so much.
I am so in love with this world that Matt Reeves created. I don’t think a trilogy is enough. I need 5 films.
#TheBatman
Denis Villeneuve & Matt Reeves are about to take turns rotating Greig Fraser as their cinematographer for the sequels for DUNE & THE BATMAN.
#TheBatman
This is a true blockbuster epic with scale & beauty. No fake, digital backgrounds or rubbery CGI models in sight.
It feels like the science fiction films from the 1970’s, only this time with $150M-$20OM budgets.
Bless you Denis Villeneuve & Greig Fraser.
BLADE RUNNER 2049 (2017)
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Cinematographer: Roger Deakins
THE BATMAN (2022)
Director: Matt Reeves
Cinematographer: Greig Fraser
Watching Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE & Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN in a span of months have been overwhelmingly surreal cinematic experiences.
Two of the greatest blockbuster auteurs in modern day delivering slow burn, arthouse visual spectacles on a massive scale.
We are so blessed.
I don’t know how this would work but I really need Mr. Freeze in THE BATMAN sequel.
A complex, tragic super villain under Matt Reeves’ emotionally intelligent storytelling & Greig Fraser’s dark, noirish photography would be .. *chef’s kiss*
#TheBatman
Anyways … JOKER was a billion dollar film where Joaquin Phoenix won the Oscar for Best Actor.
& Matt Reeves releases THE BATMAN to critical acclaim & commercial success & gets to play in THE BATMAN world & its characters for the next decade.
We won.
Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN is a gloriously behemoth cinematic experience.
A nocturnal odyssey bathed in grime, rainy atmosphere, neon-noir visuals, & immaculate direction.
One of the most complex, most beautiful, most grandiosely artful blockbusters I have ever seen.
#TheBatman
Please for the love of God. Please re-release INTERSTELLAR in IMAX for its tenth year anniversary.
It is still the greatest IMAX experience of my life thus far & I’ve always imagined being able to relive it again.
Every single live action BATMAN film has elements of crime noir to a certain extent but THE BATMAN is just on another level.
It’s a slow burn, moody art piece disguised as a blockbuster. Would make such a great double feature with BLADE RUNNER 2049.
There is before DUNE: PART TWO & there is after DUNE: PART TWO. I don’t know if the world is ready for this movie. Or maybe it is? It is GNARLY. It is crazy. It is audacious. It doesn’t hold back. Wow. I can’t believe it exists. But it does. & It’s here.
I have known about this moment since the test screenings last year & was always a bit nervous on how this was going to play out but after seeing the film, it was executed flawlessly.
I love that this Batman is still learning & making mistakes.

THE BATMAN: PART TWO
Friday. December 23rd. It feels like we are in the midst of an eternal winter in Gotham. More psychopaths seem to be creeping out from under the shadows. Gang wars over territories throughout the city.
But I’m not giving up…
#TheBatman
Number One: The DUNE trilogy needs to happen - DUNE: PART ONE, DUNE: PART TWO, & DUNE MESSIAH.
Number Two: Denis Villeneuve needs to be the one to direct all three films.
Henry Cavill's interpretation of Superman will forever challenge our preconceptions of the iconic character for years.
He wasn't some bumbling self-parody. He was a conflicted super powered alien searching for his identity, while the fate of the world rested on his shoulders.
Modern blockbusters have become these huge CGI clusterfucks where everything looks so fake & digital with awful color grading & terrible green screens.
It’s a miracle to see THE BATMAN utilize more practical effects with slight CGI enhancements & look this visually stunning.
THE BATMAN has grossed $57M at the Friday box office for a projected opening weekend of $120M+.
This places Matt Reeves’ 3 hour noir epic with the second best domestic opening of the entire pandemic era behind SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME.
#TheBatman
Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER is a new potential magnum opus.
A monumental cinematic achievement of magnificent sound & vision on the complex interplay between scientific authority, political power, & human morality.
No one is making films like Nolan.
Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER has just exceeded box office predictions & opens to $175M worldwide against a $100M budget.
An R rated biographical drama about people talking about the atomic bomb for three hours.
Only Nolan can make this an event film.
I am rewatching THE BATMAN for the sixth time now, the first time seeing the film in the comfort of my own home, on HBO Max.
I am just blown away by how breathtakingly gorgeous this film is. Such a magnificent work of art.
#TheBatman
I wish I could be hyped for other upcoming films this year but I am still thinking about THE BATMAN. It’s going to be really hard for any film to top it.
#TheBatman
Such an absolutely breathtaking sequence in THE BATMAN. So visually beautiful, the way the music swells, the strikingly artful imagery, just everything.
