21 years ago, I covered Kerry Wood’s 20 strikeout game. Today, I watched my son, T.J., graduate from college. Sorry, Woody, you have fallen to No. 2 on my May 6 highlights.

How close was Sandburg's Dylan Jacobs' win in the 1,600 to win the state title? Jacobs (left) won by 8/100ths of a second. Eyeblinks are longer than that.

First year. Dude gets money for school stuff. Advisor tells him not to buy headphones with the money. Next scene, dude walks into the office with headphones.
For those keeping score at home, today is my last day at Southwest Regional Publishing and tomorrow will be my first at 22nd Century Media. Two great organizations.
BRAGTIME! After the first weekend of play, my kid, T.J., is 20th in the nation in DIII hitting percentage with .375. His former roommate, Emir, is leading DIII in blocking. Fontbonne No. 1 in blocking and No 2 in assists. Not a bad start.

Before he became huge, he did NBA reporting for ESPN. I was covering the Cubs at the time and Stevie A comes on the screen in the clubhouse and one player says "That guy makes my ass itch." I always think of that story when Smith pops up on the teevee.
